14 out of 50

I just counted.

I've been to 14 out of the 50 States:

  1. Arizona
  2. California
  3. Colorado
  4. Florida
  5. Illinois
  6. Indiana
  7. Iowa
  8. Nevada
  9. New Mexico
  10. New York
  11. Pennsylvania
  12. Texas
  13. Virginia
  14. Washington

usa wall mapSomeday, I want to go to all 50 with my family. There's so much beauty to be found right here in the US of A. I especially want to visit Oregon, North Carolina, and Utah.

To help me dream and plan for the future, I have a huge USA wall map hanging in my home office. My 3-year-old and I like to look at it together, marveling at the colors and discussing geography.

Eventually, I hope to mount the map on a frame so that my family and I can use pushpins to mark all of the specific locales we'd like to go - the people we'd like to meet, the places we'd like to see.

For example, I'd love to:

  11. I have been to all 50 back when I was younger and worked as a roadie for numerous rock bands. I would love to win this for my daughter ebcause she has a map hanging on the ceiling in her room and is marking off all the places we have taken her and the flag is very tattered and needs to be replaced so it will last her lifetime and show her entire life of travels.

  17. Well I've been to 24 if you count every state I've ever been in, even just driving through on my way somewhere else (does that count LOL?) Two places I've never been that I REALLY want to go to is NY City and the West....Rockies, Grand Teton, etc. I went to Buffalo NY as a teen, but have never been to the BIG CITY itself! And I've flown over the west on my way to California several times and to Hawaii, but never actually viewed all the wonderful sites I hear about there. Thanks so much!

There is so many places I would love to explore. I would love to win this, would make a perfect map to teach my daughter the states and locations.

  28. When I used to travel for work quite a bit I would try to pick up a Christmas ornament from each location and give them to Mom at Thanksgiving. She was so proud of my accomplishments and each Christmas when I look at her tree I am reminded of how blessed Ive been to see and do all that Ive done.

  29. I've been to about fifteen states so far, mostly along the east coast but also New Mexico and California. I'd love to make my next trip to the Pacific Northwest and visit Oregon, Washington, and maybe even head up to Alaska as well. Thanks for the cool giveaway!

  30. I've been to almost all the states, but I was really young when I went cross country twice with my parents in our camper, so I don't remember a whole lot of it. I'd love to travel the US with my family like I did when I was a kid. Thanks for the giveaway.

  31. Reading this just reinforced my desire for one of these maps. One of my best friends has one hanging in his garage. He puts different color pins on locations, sorting places visited by business or pleasure. I think it is very educational to have these around for children especially. Thanks for sharing with us.

  32. I love to travel! This map would be great to put in my home office and I could put push pins to all of the places that I've been.

  33. I have been all over the West, a little of the South and have never been back east. I want to go to New York and Massachusetts!

  34. I have been to eleven states. I want to go to Iowa which is my boyfriends home-state. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  35. Easier for me to say which ones I haven't been to.
Alaska, Maine, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota.

  36. I've visited 17 states, driven through most of them. I would love to visit the difficult ones - Alaska & Hawaii! Thanks! thebubbledies(at)gmail(dot)com

  37. I have been to Arizona (my favorite), California, Colorado, Wisconsin, Nevada and New York (when I three). Almost forgot Washington too. Stopped in Illinois to change planes. Also experienced Oregon on our way up to Washington. I think Washington is one of the most beautiful states I have been in but still miss the desert...especially after it rains.

  38. I have been to 30 of the 50 states. I would love to visit Maine or at another extreme Hawaii. Thanks for the giveaway.

  39. I've been able to do a lot of business traveling, but I dont feel familiar with Washington, texas, new jersey, california, and colorado by just business tripping there.

  40. Growing up one of my brothers used to copy maps out of the National Geographic and hang them on his walls in his bedroom. He loves to travel as do the rest of the 6 of us siblings. He is now a married man with two young children who love to look at maps and wonder what there is around the world. These would be great as a gift for them.

  41. my daughter is just learning about maps. she has a U.S. map on her placemat and can already point out where various family members live. she's two and a half and learning more every day.

  42. I've been to Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Texas, New York, Maryland, Florida, North Carolina, Hawaii, and that's not counting where I've been in only the airports.

I'd like to go to Alaska, where my roommate from college is from and one of my friends currently resides. Hopefully I'll go next year!

  43. My hubby is obsessed with maps, but good ones are pricey. We are world travelers and would love to have an updated map to show our kids!
    bebemiqui82(at)yahoo(dot)com

  44. I've been to Maryland, Virgina, N. Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Delaware, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Hawaii.

That's 23, I had no idea it was so many. I've got to try to add two more this year so I am halfway. The one that is left I'd most like to visit is Louisiana.

  45. Come to think of it, I haven't been to too many west/midwest states :(.
New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Vermont, Connecticut, California. I think that's it!

I hope to visit all 50 too.

  46. My son is 3 and has already been to 5 states. I plan on keeping track for him, but in order to "cross off" that state, we have to stay at least one day, and see something relevant in that state. This would be a great way to keep track.

  47. It would be easy for you to mount your Map onto a corkboard. Just buy a board big enough and use spray craft adhesive (WalMart craft section) to stick it to the corkboard. I have been to all but four states. I still need to visit Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Colorado. [email protected]

  48. Great story for you...
When I was still working as a project manager for an HR consulting company we landed the Google account and I was assigned as their project manager. It was beyond a cool project! Part of the project included a trip out to both the California and New York Google offices to help roll out the new hiring processes. But I became pregnant during the project and the business trip landed just a week before my due date which meant I couldn't fly. I've since quit my job but I often think of how awesome it would have been to have been able to tour the Google offices. My old coworkers who went in my place tell me it was something else. Oh well!

  49. I have been to wisconsin, illinois, indiana, michigan, california, colorado, texas

  50. looks like a cool map - I'd love to have it to help my kids learn a little bit of US geography. I want them to always be able to know where all the states are, it is a shame that so many Americans can not do this...

  51. I've been to approx 25 states, but would absolutely love to visit New York, Hawaii, and Alaska! I just need the funds!!! :)

  52. We've been to quite a few states, but always enjoy visiting new ones. One of the states on our list that we'd love to visit is Vermont (especially in the fall)! We'd also love to visit the South and Alaska! Great giveaway!
    ~Tanya

  53. Travel is my 'thing' - my 4 year old has been to - Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Washington, Nevada, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahoma. She would love a map!

  54. I've been to 48 states, still missing Alaska and North Dakota. I'd like to go to Alaska to see the wildlife.

  55. Would love to travel the US with my family as well! I've been to about 15 states (pre-children) and would love to visit places across the US and explore it all as a family. The big map is just cool, have thought about getting one, but haven't yet.

When you come to MN, stop by and visit us!

  56. Ooh! My first grade son would LOVE that map!! We're hoping to go to the Mall of America this summer. It's about an 8 hr. drive from here, which is definitely doable. The main draw is the HUGE Lego store...but there are many other reasons! :)

  57. I have been to 14 of the 50 states as well. But all most of them have been before I had my son or when I was a child. I hope to spend vacations with our children visiting different states & the attractions the state is known for. Hopefully to make it to all 50. I love maps, 1 wall of our play room is wallpapered in maps, but a big map of the united states would be so perfect.

  58. I have been to all states except 4. Have not been to Delaware, Hawaii, Alaska or North Dakota. I would like to plot our routes on this map to teach my grandkids about the wonders of travel.

  59. While I have been up and down the west coast, from Mexico to Canada and out to Hawaii, I've only been as far east as Las Vegas, NV! I'd love to see the rest of the country some day. Maybe a cross country train trip when the kids are older?

  60. Great question...
AZ, NM, TX, OK, CO, UT, NV, CA, OR, MO, AR, GA, FL, MA, NY, NJ, PA, MD, DC, IL, and HI
    What's that? 21
I would really love to visit more. Especially here in the West.

  61. I think I've been to 38. I am going to have to do a more thorough counting, though. I am desperate to go to New England in the fall. Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire. It all sounds beautiful to me!!

  62. I have 48 out of 50! I am missing Colorado and Alaska. I took a road trip with a friend when we were out of college that helped me hit a lot of them! It was awesome! I would love to repeat it in and RV some day!

  63. My oldest son always comes up with geography questions and we keep looking on the globe that I had when I was a kid for the answers (how out of date is that?!?!). We would both enjoy having a map like this around to look up things together as questions come up! I think I've been in about half of the states and I would love to bring my children to see some more of them!

  64. Wow! this is tough! What counts as being "in" a state. I mean in the 4 corners area you can touch 4 states simultaneously. Does that get you all 4? Also I have criss-crossed the country Northern and Southern routes lengthwise a few times and a couple times crosswise--Midwestern (Texas to Chicago), Pacific and Eastern coastal by car. That being said. I've lived in 9 states and spent substantial time in 14 others (inclduing Hawaii) plus DC and Puerto Rico. If you count the passing through thing, then I've pretty much hit them all except New England and Alaska. So those are the ones I would like see.

  65. I have been in all states except Washington, Oregon,
Montana and Nebraska. I've lived in North Carolina and Texas. I'd love to visit/move to Washington state!!

  66. I'd love visit all the states! Unfortunately, we don't get to travel much. I've been in 8 states, total. Only 42 to go!

  67. I've visited 37 states - Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

  68. I've lived in 6 of them, and visited or at least passed through all the rest except North Dakota and Alaska. Alaska is my goal to visit.

  69. Maps are a great way to teach children about geography, when planning a family vacation. You can point out to them where you are going, how far it is, etc.

  70. I been to 12 states --more if you count the ones we just drove through. I would love to visit more states out west.

  71. I have been to 17 states if you count the ones we spent time in and not just drove through. I would love to go to Arizona.

  72. I have been to 38 out of 50. (I didnt realize I had either lived, worked or played in that many states).

I would most like to visit Alaska.

  73. I have been to every state but Alaska and HW and my hubby has ot been to any except one besides ours so this would be really neat to keep track of where we go from now on

  74. I have been to all but 5 states over the years, and I want to go to Alaska as well as Hawaii someday. I have a huge map on the hallway wall and we have dots of realitives , penpals and more all over the world. This would be perfect for my eldest son to start his own tradition

  75. I havebeen to 9 different states, including NY where I live. I'd love to take a Family Vacation to Florida, considering Hubby, myself and obviously our kids have never been. I also would love to go to Colorado and Arizona.

  76. I've been to Oregon (where I live, lol), Washington, California, Idaho, Arizona and Montana. Not many!

I'd love to go to New York to visit my surrogate son. :)

    THANK YOU!!

  77. ohio, kentucky, michigan, indiana, illinois, michigan, missouri, kansas, new york, pennsylvania, tennessee, north carolina, south carolina, new jersey, georgia, virginia, washington DC, florida, texas, wisconsin

  78. I've been to 26 states, including DC. My husband and I both love to travel and would love to see many more.

This giveaway is very timely. We hope to adopt our next child from Korea. We are still a year or more away from beginning the application process. But I recently told my husband that when we get to that point I'd love to get a big world map to put on a wall in our playroom so our kids will have a better idea of where their sibling will be coming from.

  79. this would be perfect as i'm getting my kids to learn states and countrys. I've been to CA, AZ, CO, UT, NV, NC, NY, FL, VA, GA, MO,KS, PA, NM, SC, WV. I think thats it. A lot

  80. When my youngest was born, we said that we would like to take her to all 50 states by the time she is 18. So far at age 4, she has been to 9 states. I have been to about 11. I am very much looking forward to Hawaii, only I don't fly. That could be tricky!

  81. I've been to most states in the midwest and west and a few in the east. I figured about 31 out of the 50. I missing a few key ones I'd love to visit namely Alaska and the southern states of Mississippi, Georgia etc. The USA is sooo big!

  82. I've lived in: California, Texas, Colorado, Ohio, Louisiana, Kansas and now Missouri

I've also been to or through: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Massachusetts. It's possible that I've been through a few more, but I can't say for sure.

That means I've been to 23 of the 50. I'd love to spend a year traveling around the US of A visiting the historical sites, quirky attractions, state and national parks and touring state capitals!

  83. I have been to 17. Most of those have been passing through on a bus, but I surely got to see the landscape! I would still love to go to Colorado and Hawaii!

Come on to NC--we'd love for you to visit, from the mountains to the sea!

  84. I have been to California, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. I would love to visit Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and the East Coast! Especially Massachusetts and of course New York! I live in Utah and I was born and raised in California, but I would love to explore more of the Nation and the world surrounding me.

  85. I've been to the two ends of the country but still have a lot of the middle to explore! They had an article about the 10 national parks you need to visit so those are on my list of places I need to go.

  86. I have the same goal of visiting all 50 states. So far I have been to 13. Husband and I have a road trip planned for next spring that will add about 6 more to the list and I am so excited. I love your idea to mount your map and put pins in where you have been!

  87. I've been to: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska , Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming - I've also been to D.C.

    27 & lived in 1

    autumn398 @ yahoo.com

  88. Oh sorry - I have probably been to or through about 25 states

NY, PA, VA, WV, IN, OH, NC, SC, FL, GA, MO, KS, AZ, CA, NV, OR, WA, LA, AL, TN, SD, MA, MD, KY., MS, CO

I have lived in 5 different states.

  89. I've been to 27 states. State-wise, Alaska & Hawaii are on my bucket list. Destination-wise, I would love to go on a National Parks tour. (I've never been to the Grand Canyon but my family hopes to go in the next couple years.)

  90. I've been to 9 states and would love to go to more. I really would like to go Yellow Stone or anywhere else out west.

  91. I've been to 39 of the 50 states. I went on a cross country trip in my early 20s. It was one of the best things I have ever done. Beautiful country. I'd love to eventually get to Alaska, one of my friends lives there so we'd have the travel costs, but then a place to stay!

  92. How fun! We LOVE maps! We have a huge satellite image of the world over our fireplace. I just counted and I have been to 23 states. I have never been to the midwest...would like to do a roadtrip to one day! New England is among my favorites. I grew up in Vermont until I was 11...not much beats autumn in New England! We also want to go to Alaska one day!

  93. Born and bred in New York, lived in North Carolina and now living in Pennsylvania. Have been to Ohio, Virginia, South Carolins, Florida Georgia, Alabama, Missippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona (ant of course NY, NC, and PA) and Illinois although I was only in Illinois long enough to change trains in Chicago so not sure if that counts. Have also been to Hong Kong, Norway, Iceland,(saw Surtze)France, UK and lived in Scotland for 4 years. Lots of the world left to see and still want to see the Galapagos Islands and even at 73 still love to travel but airlines really make it a chore these days. Would love to have this map to give my grandaughter some geography lessons. Am appalled at how little geography, US and World she knows even though she is in 4th grade so have taken it upon myself to educate her in this field.

  94. As a military family, we've been through several states while driving to our next duty station.

We have lived in Texas, Florida, Maine, Washington state, Illinois, and California over the years.

I'd love to retire in Maine. It's such a beautiful state, and the people are just so friendly.

  95. huh, maps.com? My kids need a wall map for their home schooling. Now I know where to get one.

I've been to quite a few states, but I haven't really enjoyed all that they have to offer. For instance, I spend two nights within 15 miles of the badlands and I never went to look. It took me a dozen trips to Buffalo before I finally saw Niagra Falls. That's the problem. Lot's of people can say they've been to almost every state, but very few of them ever stop to smell the roses so to speak. I'm guilty of that. I like that you've made a list of places you want to go AND things you want to do. My next big trip is going to be to Yellowstone with the boys. They'll love it!

  96. I have been to 12 I think, I too want to see all 50! Having a baby has revived that interest for me. I'm really looking forward to family vacations!!

I'm no good at memorizing geography, but I love looking at maps. I keep thinking I should get a map for Eli so that he can be better at geography than me. I would LOVE to put this in his room!

  97. I've *been* to a lot of states, but some of them barely count, as they were driven through on the way to other states. States I've actually spent time in include: Washington (born & raised), Oregon, (Northern) California, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Colorado (hubby's home state, and where I want to settle down), Ohio, Florida, Maryland and Pennsylvania. I guess I could maybe count New York, too, as we did vacation there to see Niagra Falls (which is really just as much of a must-see as they say!!). Aside from British Columbia, though, I've never been out of country. Would love to see New Zealand someday!

I *love* maps for decoration. A wall-sized world map would be a truly awesome prize!!

  98. I have been to 23 states so far. I noticed that you have North Carolina on your list. I grew up in NC, (I live in Texas now) and it is a beautiful state. My family all still lives there and we try to get back to visit as often as we can.

  99. I've been through or visited most of the western states, and a few in the midwest, but have never been back east. Someday.... :) My 4yr old is nuts about geography & maps, so we talk about them often. This wall map would be a big hit at our house!

  100. I was going to say you need to come to Missouri, but I see you added that to your wishlist! :) One day I need to head out west!

    Nell

  101. I live in California and have been to about 12 states I think. If I had a big huge map on the wall I could get a better count though. LOL. I have been on the hunt for the perfect wall map to put up in our play room/school room. Thanks for the referal to a great map retailer.

Last month our plan was to take our two kids and drive to NY and back. They are 6 months old and 2 years old. We decided to cancel those plans and just go to Disneyland for a few days. We were happy we did.

  102. I've lived in 1-Georgia, 2- Colorado, 3- North Carolina, 4- Tennessee, 5- Kentucky, 6- Alabama, and visited or traveled through 7- Florida, 8- South Carolina, 9- Mississippi, 10- Arkansas, 11- West Virginia, 12- Virginia and DC area, 13- Ohio, 14- Illinois, 15- Utah, 16- California, 17- North Dakota, 18- South Dakota, 19- Kansas, 20- Oklahoma, 21- Nebraska, 22- Missouri, 23- Wyoming, 24- Montanna, 25- Texas, 26- New Jersey, 27- New York, 28- Pennsylvania, and 29- Hawaii..... I didn't realize I was over half way through them!

  103. I love maps, all maps... and globes too. Something about looking at the states, the routes, etc. that just makes you wanna go. There is truly alot of beauty in the US and not enough time to see it all.

  104. I've been to three states (Florida, Ohio, and Massachusetts). But I don't remember Florida since I was about six months old. Maybe someday we'll travel around the States. There are lots of places I'd love to go if I could only get home the same day...
