A Potty Training Story

A Potty Training Story 1Last month, we started having our 21-month-old daughter wear panties during the day instead of diapers. It actually unraveled in a rather uncomplicated and natural way. We started with a pack of Hanes 2T underwear (which fit our petite daughter surprisingly well), a BabyBjorn Potty Chair, and a positive attitude.

A Potty Training Story 2In the mornings, we just started putting her immediately on the potty and she would pee...and we would clap and say we were proud of her and describe the process as she went. At first, I was hesitant to say good-bye to diapers completely, but - after a few days - I thought "Why not?" and just went forward. We've had our fair share of accidents (there have been a lot of them), but - fortunately - we have tile and so it's extremely easy to clean up and actually not very stressful. Our daughter has acclimated extremely well - she'll tell us when she has to "pee" or "poop" and often she'll run into the bathroom on her own and just sit right down.

About two weeks ago, we had our first accident-free day. Since then, we've had a few accidents here and there, but she's doing quite well and the whole experience has been - dare I say it? - rather peaceful.

All that said, she's not fully potty trained yet and we still have her wear diapers when we're out and about (although I'm thinking we may have to try the potty training on-the-road thing soon...any tips for us?) and at night.

A Potty Training Story 3If you have a toddler between 12 and 24 months old, you might be interested to know that Dr. Linda Acredolo and Dr. Susan Goodwyn say that period is "ideal" for potty training. In fact, the goal of their program - the Baby Signs Potty Training Program - is "to help parents potty train their babies before age 2."

The complete Baby Signs Potty Training Kit comes with:

  • All Aboard the Potty Train DVD
  • All Aboard the Potty Train Lift-the-Flap Book
  • All Aboard the Potty Train Conductor's Whistle
  • Job Well Done! Stickers
  • A Parent's Guide to Potty Training

I should emphasize here that we didn't use this program or any "program" with our daughter. We preferred to "dance to the beat of a different drum" and do things our own easygoing way - partly because we only recently started letting our daughter watch TV (at all) and even now it is very minimal so we didn't want to introduce the potty DVD.

But this approach might work for you. Or maybe bits and pieces of it will work. If nothing else, perhaps it will be a way to teach your baby some basic signs to help him/her communicate better.

YOUR TURN: Share your potty training story! Are you currently potty training? What age do you think is ideal? What "method" did you/will you use?

  1. I have not story except to say thst my son has said that he will NEVER use the potty which frightens me really to my core late at night!

  2. My son was motivated after i bought a Taonk Truck put it up on a shelf in the bathroom and he was told that when he went poop in the toilet 10 times he would get the truck. he was done in a week.

  3. I have an 18 month old and she is just starting to potty train. Started off great but strting to regress a little. With the cost of diapers this is a great gift! Thankyou for the sweepstakes offer!

  4. My son will be turning two in September. I have started talking "potty talk". Showing him big boy pants, etc. I'm hoping it will be a smooth transition for him. I'm sure the giveaway items will help.

  5. My son just turned two and I am dreading the whole potty training thing. Honestly, I'm not sure at this point what method I'm going to use, so this kit could give me some guidance! Thank you for the great contest!

  6. I started potty training with my son last month and he's now 22 months. I've tried a number of videos and with lots of positive encouragement without any success yet. (If you've ever heard the "Potty Song" from one of the training DVD's it will drive you nuts!) I don't want to push the issue too much but need as much assistance as I can get.

  7. We are just starting to get our daughter used to the idea of the potty. So far she is pretty resistant. She is 21 months old - I think she is still a bit too young. My husband, on the other hand, thinks she should have been potty trained months ago. The training kit should really come in handy during this difficult time.

  8. Well, my son is about to turn 1 this week (yeah!!!) so we haven't yet broached this topic. I am looking to my BF for advice as she has trained one and is in the process of potty training her second. She had a really difficult time with her first and at 4 she still wears diapers at night (although I hear that is pretty common). Her 2 year old is actually easier (according to her) and has been more accepting (probably because she has an older sister). Her best advice is to be patient (haha!) and work with the child when he/she is ready. Forcing the issue creates stress (and in her case constipation with her first). I'm very interested in this program because I never realized that children as young as my son could actually begin the process. Thanks for sharing this info!

  9. My daughter will be 2 in August and we need to get going more on this potty training thing.....This prize would work out great!

  10. My son was three and a half. I didn't have a method, but just waited until he was ready. Unfortunately, his teacher, family members, friends, everyone was telling me he was behind and he wouldn't be able to move up to the next grade in school. When I finally began stressing over it, he decided for himself over a matter of days that he was ready and we haven't looked back. He doesn't even wet his bed. So phbllllebt. :)

  11. I'm expecting right now and everything about being parents is a mistery to me. The package will help us so much when it's time to potty-train our baby.

  12. I need more help, my son will be 4 next month and we have tried every thing. He says he loves diapers and that underwear is "stupid" so I have my hands full!!

  13. I don't know the method I will use, but I know which one I will not...let's just say that whomever invented the potty seat that has a lockable lap arm was cruel. I promise to be nicer.

  14. I would actually like to give this to my sister who has started potty training my 18 mth old niece. I babysit my niece a few days a week and have been actively involved with the potty training as well. She gets put on the potty when she wakes up in the morning and again when she wakes up from her afternoon nap. Sometimes she pees in the potty, sometimes she doesn't. When she DOES go in the potty we have a song & dance we do. We make a big production of flushing the potty and washing our hands. Also, when she has a poop diaper, we dump it into the potty, flush it away, and wave bye-bye to the poop.
We were also involved in potty training our brother's son. We made our poor husbands pee in the potty and he would watch one of them so he knew what to do. My sister read somewhere that if you put a cheerio in the toilet and have them aim at it, it turns into a fun game making them want to pee in the potty. We tried this with our nephew and it was a HUGE success!!

  15. My dd was potty trained right before she turned 3... during the day. She's almost able to hold it in at night and she just turned 6.

I'm thinking about starting to buy Pull-Ups for ds. I'm not looking forward to potty training him... the whole boy thing and all.

  16. I am in the process of potty training. We just started last weekend. She woke up dry for the first time so I put her on the potty and YEAH!!! she went potty.

That first day she did great, even did number two in the potty, the next few days were down hill. We are still trying though. She will be two next month, so I think this is a great age.

  17. I have an 8 month old so I am not potty training yet, but I know I will need all of the help that I can get when the time comes!

  18. We are currently potty training our 2 1/2 year old daughter and all I can say is I NEED HELP!! I never thought it would be this hard so I would really really like to win this!!

  19. I'm currently potty training my 5th child. He's 26 months old. He's been sitting on the potty for a while, but we were waiting for summer. I think that's the best time to potty train little boys cause you can let them pee on trees and they think that is great! We put him in underwear full time last week, during the day I mean. He's doing great. I use candy to potty train. When you use the potty eveybody sings a special song and claps and goes into the kitchen where mommy gets the candy box down. The big kids help too cause they know they get a piece of candy also!
I would love to win this for my sister who has a 2 week old little girl. This will be her firs, and it may help her find her own groove when the time comes.

  20. My middle kid got so caught up in potty training she refused to poop and held it in for days at a time. We had to lay off the pressure entirely.

  21. The best age I think to start is about 1 and a half to age two depending on the child. I like to talk about going "potty" early and have a potty chair for them to sit on while mom and dad are going potty. Then when it is time they have an idea of what it is about. Boys can go anywhere (grass) but girls prefer a clean bathroom that looks like home. If you praise them when they do it right then they will want to go in the potty. A M&M is good but I think praise is so much more important to them. I have a son that is 17 months and we are starting the potty training process now. So that by the end of summer he will be done. I like to potty train in the warmer months because we are outside more (less mess for me to clean up), they also wear less clothing and it is easier to have a toddler pull down shorts than a bunch of winter clothes.

  22. I've been trying to potty train my 2 year old daughter, but with no success. She'll sit on the potty, but I don't think she understands how to "go" while she's there. My method is persistence - I know eventually she'll catch on. Great prize package!

  23. My dd won't listen to me, but she will follow and copy what they do watching potty training videos. I need another potty chair, one for upstairs and downstairs (I'm tired of movin'it). Also when they tell her to wipe, she would unroll all the tp, but I have a tip: when the roll is almost gone, I save them and when she is "training", I give her a roll of her own and she stopped ruining the rolls in the bathroom!!!

  24. Blondie pretty much potty trained herself. We had the potty chair out for a long time (cute wooden chair with a magazine rack and personal toilet paper holder made by my grandfather) and offered to let her use it and read her potty books, but most of the time she didn't care to. We didn't push because there was no big hurry. I bought underwear for her and told her she could start wearing it when she started using the potty and had dry diapers for most of the day. For a while she still didn't care too much, and then one day she just decided she was ready. We had a couple accidents (really only two or three) at home, none in public, and now the only time she wears a diaper is at night. I'd rather change diapers for longer and have potty training go that easily than try and push a kid who's not ready.

  25. We have been trying to train out 2 year old granddaughter for 4 months now, and she's a challenge. She will sit on the potty and do nothing, but tells us after she goes. I need help!

  26. WE WILL BE NEEDING THIS SOON FOR MY GRANDSON WHEN HE APPEARS TO BE SHOWING SIGNS OF BEING READY. THE OFFER OF BIG BOY'S UNDERWEAR WITH HIS FAVORITE DISNEY CHARACTOR WILL BE USED. TY 4 THE GREAT CONTEST!:)

  27. We've used Baby Signs the original kit with our twin boys since they were about 6 months. Now at a year, they have been signing to each other and with us.

Two weeks before thier first b-day, I decided to start potty training them. My mom had me potty trained at 8 months. How she did that is beyond me!! I don't know any "poop" or "pee" signs, but I guess if my boys learned to signal me, it would make potty training much easier.

Out and about tip. I take a fold up stool with me. I sneak my boys with stroller and all into the handicap bathroom (I've been lucky no one with a wheel chair has came in at the same time), and i sit on my stool and sing songs until my son is confortable enough to poop. We also bring with us our Diego soft seat so it can "feel like home". Yes, I carry a lot of stuff with me (8-10 diapers, 1 giant pack of wipes, 2 sets of extra clothes, blankets, snacks, 16oz already made formula, sanitizer liquid, sun block, 4 bottles, baby medicine, advil for me, thermamitor, extra shirt for me, and when they were newborns I even carried a first aid kit).

Now days, most of this stuff is in a plastic bin in my car. I'm even thinking of purchasing a small potty bucket with disposable biodegradable liners so they can just go in the comfort of the car instead of some dirty gas station bathroom.

  28. I find this all very interesting. My physician recently told me at my son's 18 mo. checkup that we should start potty training soon. He said the sooner the better. I was so surprised. But...here we go...This kit may be very helpful.

    Thanks.

  29. I found that you know when your child is ready. If you try to force the issue you end up with a confused child and frustrated parents.

  30. We just started potty training with our 19 month old. She seems interested but we still have a very long way to go. The potty training kit would be a HUGE help, especially since we used the Baby Signs program with her up to this point. Using the signs has made communication so much easier and it has helped her to start talking at a very early age. I have no doubt that this kit would be just as helpful. Keeping my fingers crossed that I win! :)

  31. My son needs to be potty trained and I've been trying so hard with little success. I am having a baby girl in seven weeks and I desperately need this set so that I don't have two children in diapers. His doctor confirmed that he is ready, just stubborn. Can you please help?

  32. I would love to win this one. We are along way off from potty training the last of our babies ( he is only 3 months old). But having potty trained 4 other boys, even I would like some new tips on easier training. We went with the training when our kids were ready, method. We used pullups at night, but went straight to undies during the day.

  33. this sounds perfect. i have 2 grandbabies who will be potty training soon and this would really help.

  34. I have been using this program with my daughter. The DVD was here favorite for a long time. I have pictures of her watching the DVD while sitting on her potty. Very cute! But that had to stop when she started dancing along with the songs. This kit has a lot of helpful information, and is not a high-pressure, conform-to-our exact type of program. It's been helpful to us. In about a week, we'll be switching our daughter to training pants and panties. She'll be thrilled!

I reviewed this product at my blog. http://hollytriedit.blogspot.com/2008/04/baby-signs-potty-training-made-easy.html

  35. Although my 18 month old son has not started potty training, I have been showing him a "Potty" video that I used for my 7 year old son. It's not too early to expose them to the products.

  36. We are in the process of introducing our 22 month old to potty training. We haven't tried to get her to go on the potty yet. We just sit her down on it when she wants to "go" on her potty. She tells us when she is all down. I want to get rid of diapers but I don't want to rush her through it either.

  37. I want to win this so badly for dear friend who just had her first baby. She would love this and need this...thanks so much!

  38. My son is 9.5 months old. I have been interested in the baby signs potty training program since I read their program info in their newsletter. (Currently, I am enjoying using the baby signs signing program.)I want to start potty training as soon as possible. I have been adviced by a nurse that before three years is impressive especially for boys. I hope that is not true. I want my son to be independent of diapers, and I want to help keep our earth green. I started by getting cloth diapers, since I heard babies train faster with those vice the disposable diapers. My next step will probably be the baby signs potty training program when he is at least one year. Good luck on your potty training.

  39. OMG! This is great! We are still battling the dreaded "potty training" anything that will keep my daughter motivated to continue going to the potty would be GREATLY appreciated.

  40. I think there is no ideal age for potty training. When the child shows interest, its usually a good indication they are getting close!

  41. My son is 1 1/2 and is starting to grab at his diaper and run to the potty. He loves to just stand there but nothing ever comes out. He also loves to watch his big brother go potty. He's definitly showing an interest so I think this Potty Training Kit would really help us succeed! Thanks for the opportunity!

  42. I heard about this book/dvd a couple of months ago and was very intrigued. I was told that it's possible to potty train at one year. My son is 8 months and I would love to have the set to prepare for the big event!

  43. My children were potty trained before the Baby Signs® Potty Training Kit was created. However, I used the same signs the program teaches with my then two-year-old potty training twins and loved the results! Using signs not only makes potty training concepts easier to communicate, it makes potty training fun! I am familiar with the Baby Signs® Potty Training materials and enthusiastically recommend it to my friends with infants and toddlers. My twins were completely potty trained before their third birthday and still use their potty training signs today (they turn four this summer). Potty signs sure come in handy at the community pool!

  44. My twins just turned 10 months, so we are not at the potty training stage yet....I'm hoping at 18 months, or if they show interest before then, to start training. I'm using Baby Signs with C&C, so plan to eventually use Potty Signs. I've heard great things about it.

  45. We just started trying to potty train our 21 month old daughter. She likes to sit on the potty like a chair- but no success in actually going! Happy to hear that the Baby Signs folks have come up with a new way to potty train- their videos and books are awesome. We took their Sign, Say and Play class here in Sacramento and our daughter loved it- its so much easier to communicate with her through signs than screams!

  46. For on-the-go potty training try training pants or panties with the protective plastic. Be sure to have her pee before she leaves home and as soon as she arrives at your destination. It adds an extra step into your trip (like to the grocery store) but it should save you from accidents. Uh, you're on your own with the cleanliness of the bathrooms! LOL!

I have four children and one more to train. Each child is different and I am thankful I had a daycare provider who helped with the others. Now, we'll see if I can get the youngest potty trained. She's 13 months and I plan to start before October/November.

  47. Oh, now I'm wishing I'd started sooner. I just have to remember where I was though - newborn - it wouldn't have worked for us. I'm wondering if we go to the store to "potty shop" if it might spark interest. I've been thinking of getting a potty book too. I'm guessing we'll be up your alley just taking it as it comes (no pun intended). I'm so glad that it has been so peaceful a transition for you all. What a blessing!

  48. We went to the store and had ds pick out underwear and stickers for incentives and we're going diaper free at least during the day- hes too much of a heavy wetter at night yet

  49. I am trying to potty train my son but it is not going very well. This is my first and it is REALLY stressful for me though not for him, he is perfectly happy to pee on the carpet instead of the potty. I could use all the help I can get.

  50. Potty Training our first was very difficult she was almost 4 before she was actually potty trained. We went thru some serious withholding issues. With our 2nd I am going to try and different more relaxed approach!

  51. I am in the middle of potty training my 2 1/2 year old daughter. With my my older 2 it was a long 2 day process of contstantly being in the bathroom. They were both almost 3. Thank you for having this.

  52. Funny, I was just reading about this because I've been wondering when to start with my almost 17-month-old. I don't think she's ready but lots of pressure from the older generation . . . I had to laugh because yesterday I read an article on babycenter.com - "Toilet training: What doesn't work" and among the things it lists: 'Following your mother-in-law's timetable'. To paraphrase: no matter how many times you're told (by the older generation) to hurry up and potty train, let it 'roll off your back'. I printed out the article! (lol)

  53. My son is 11 months and I've always said as soon as he starts walking we are potty bound. My only question will be how I can get daycare to be on board with this 3 days a week. He's started walking the other day so I guess it's time to break out the potty. I would love this Baby Sign kit since we already use Baby Sign with him and he's signing away. What a great opportunity to bring it to him in another part of his life. :)

  54. No real advice, you're doing everything right I think!! My daughter was the easiest/fastest and she was about the age yours is. My son's were about 2.5 yrs. The nighttime thing, we made the switch to pull-ups (not sure why, diapers are cheaper and the same thing basically) and waited until they stayed dry in those for a few weeks before doing a trial run with underwear. Good luck!!

  55. I let my boys run around naked in the back yard. Once the figure out what was happening, potty training was a breeze.

  56. I am helping to potty train my two year old grandson.

I put up a chart on the bathroom wall and he gets rewarded with a star sticker each time he goes potty.

  57. I would love to start potty training my 18 month old soon! Great to hear your thoughts and read other people's thoughts too!
    this prize seems helpful!!

  58. My 2 year old is in the midst of potty training. Well, she will be 3 in 2 weeks. She uses the potty several times a day but also still uses the diaper, too. Several times a day. But my daughter is developmentally and speech delayed. So everything is twice as hard. But she's come a long way in the last 4 months.

  59. Hopefully, my son and daughter-in-law will do the major part of potty training for my 21-month-old grandson. I think the newer methods work better than those we used many years ago.

  60. We've been working on potty training since Calvin was 4 mos...he's now 7 mos and doing very well. We don't completely do the EC-method. Rather, we just sit him on the potty when we're going to change his diaper anyway. If he happens to go, we do the clap, praise thing.

For about a month now, he waits to poop until we have him on the potty. Sure, there are times he poops in his diaper and we don't get him there early enough, but he definitely prefers it. There are definitely times when he regularly goes every day. He's now at the point that he strains and attempts to poop every time we put him on the potty (usually when he first wakes up in the morning, after every nap, and 10 minutes after each feeding of solids). We'll sit him on it after bathtime, but whether or not he goes just depends.

He often pees in it if he needs to, but he doesn't hold that like he does his poops. His detrusor (urinary) muscles won't develop to be able to hold his bladder until he's at least 11 months old.

I definitely think babies can be potty trained before 1 year. My nephew began his training at 4 months, too. At 1 year, he's now in 2T underwear and tells his mom when he needs to go poop or pee so she can help him pull his pants down.

I recommend starting as soon as baby can support his head. The sooner they're potty trained, the sooner they have independence in that area. Think of the amount you'll save in buying or washing diapers!

  61. I am currently potty training my 3 year old little girl. It is taking longer than I thought it would. I have tried rewarding her, but she does not seem interested. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is potty trained by August when she starts preschool. Thanks for the giveaway!

  62. LOL I enjoyed reading your story and the posts. My children are grown (I'm hoping to win for my grandson.) I raised four children and with the first one I did the whole potty every 2 hours thing...but by the time I got to the 4th, I told her what the potty was for, she watched the rest of us from time to time, and when she was ready, she started banging on the bathroom door! That was it, she was trained! :-)

  63. I'd like to win this for my grandson.
My 3 year old is finally trained after so much frustration. We've tried the sticker chart, giving treats, taking her to get a special prize to use the potty, nothing worked. She just one day decided on her own that it was time and has been going ever since without a single accident.
With my older daughter she was so easy and was fully trained at the age of 23 mo. That is an idea age in my opinio.

  64. That is so funny. I just saw the Baby Signs at the doctors office today. My son had his 8 year check up. I am not looking forward to potty training my youngest. But we have started the process. I think boys are harder to train. I used bribes with my oldest. I don't want to do that with the second.

  65. ok this sounds crazy but i began potty training after 13 months. my boys began walking at 10 months. They were dry during the day by 16 months and and all night by 2 years

  66. We have been working on potty training for about 4 months now, and he's almost got it! I'd say we're 85% of the way there. I don't think it's fair to say that boys train at a later age than girls, though that is what I always hear. The ideal age is whenever their bodies are capable of holding it, and that is different for every child. Best method? Why, M&M rewards, of course!

  67. Ha! A timely post! (And that is THE BEST potty chair, by the way.) I trained my son at 2 years, 2 months. We took the initiative, did it sort of like you did - set him on the potty (we used the tv) after breakfast, and he'd eventually pee. Like #3, it took him a while to figure out how to release. After that, we were home free. He was very reliable.

With #2 child, I was pregnant and didn't take any initiative. She started on her own at 2 years, 6 mos. She had a lot of accidents, but she was fully trained almost overnight (except nighttime, which came MUCH later).

With #3, I am in process. We went cold turkey, no diapers, a week ago, and within about 4 stressful days, she had figured out how to release and she's doing GREAT with pee. For some reason, she is pooping in her panties, and I don't really know why, but hopefully we can overcome this hurdle sooner rather than later. :-) She is 2 years, 8 mos.

Good luck! I like your easygoing style. Wish I were more like that.

  68. I have been worrying about potty training, only because my son is 1 1/2, but I want to start him soon.. he shows signs of readiness but we are having a new baby in September and then moving out of state/possibly out of country in December, so I'd like to wait until after the move!

But this prize pack would definately help the transition of potty training, which we will definately begin the first of next year since we will already be in a new place and he can become accustomed to the change!

  69. This is something I am not looking forward to. I haven't started potty training yet. Mine isn't to that age yet.

  70. I'm not currently, but my daughter still wears night pants and she is almost four and we cannot break her of that crutch.

  71. I would love to be potty training right now. My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and doesn't show a lot of interest in it. She does it for my neighbor every time she goes over there. We are sort of just letting her set the pace. I did buy some pretty pull-ups that she wants to wear but I told her she can't until she actually starts trying to use the bathroom. This contest is so perfect for my daughter.

  72. The best luck I had was letting my son potty outside!! He thought it was so much fun. We live in the country so he didn't need to worry about that. The only problem was that he always wanted to go outside, no matter where we were....walmart, the circus, mommy and me, etc.

  73. I am just starting to train my three year old son. I am hoping to win these tools to make it easier on both of us.

  74. My son is 2 years old and we are just starting the potty training process! He was very excited when we first brought his potty chair home, but it has since fallen to the wayside! I am looking for new ideas and this kit might help! chrisandamyward at comcast dot net

  75. With our son, I sat him on the potty every 5 minutes (using the oven timer) because he kept peeing in his pull-ups if I waited longer in between times. After a day or two of that, he caught on and had hardly any accidents. My daughter is another story...maybe since she's my baby, I keep putting this off and I need to get started- she's 29 months, beyond the 24 month cut-off suggested. Maybe these tools will help us get started:-). Thanks!!

  76. My boys started potty training on their own, It was summer so the would go pee pee outside behind a tree. Neither one were hard to get to go to the potty. They were about 2 1/2 years. I think when they are ready you will know. And the cherrios Idea is a great idea.

  77. i was just having thisconversation with a friend yesterday about what age. I am sooo happy to see that you had success at a young age, because that is my theory. She was the wait until after 24 months. TOO Long in diapers for me! I would love to have some guidance like this program to proove her wrong!!!

  78. Our daughter is 24 months and in the early stages of potty training. She sits and sits and sits on the potty (she is very patient). At long last, I will leave her sitting on the potty while I quickly do something else. When I have returned to the bathroom, I found her sitting on the edge of the sink trying to pee-pee in the sink! Oh the joys of toddlerhood!

  79. We're done potty training our son, now our daughter is due for it this fall! We tried to reward for staying DRY, not for going to the potty. It seemed to take some of the "production pressure" off.

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  80. Money was tight & our youngest daughter was very hard to potty train. Finally we just couldn't afford another package of pull ups, so she had no choice but to go into underwear. The first two weeks were a bit tough, but she figured it out. It was hard at the time not having the money to buy something we thought our daughter needed, but it ended up working out for the better because she trained pretty quick once we took away the pull ups.

  81. I am planning to potty train our 19 month old in one more month. We have a new one coming in October and it would be wonderful to have him trained so we only have to buy diapers for one baby. My mother had 14 kids and had us all potty trained at 12 mos. I don't know how she did it but she was amazing! Boys seem to take longer to train than my girls. I would love to win this cute little set!!

    Thanks!!

  82. I'm past the potty training myself, but I would love to win this for my brother's new daughter. When I was potty training, it really didn't seem that hard. My son loved brushing his teeth, so I told him that every time he went "potty" we would brush his teeth. It worked like a charm!

  83. Neat, i like this idea a lot. Potty training our son was so easy, I really am lucky. He was 2.5 - I can only hope potty training my daughter goes as well - any maybe a little sooner!!!

  84. We could certainly use some method to our madness. Potty training with our now 3-1/2 yr old was awful, and spanned from about 21 mo's or so until the present, when he's finally about there. We had tons of false starts, set-backs, tears & frustration along the way. Sooo...all that to say, with my 18 mo. old, I could really use some help!

  85. My son will "attempt" peeing on his potty, but pooing is a different story.....he just won't do it! This prize could be great help to us! :)

  86. Of course, I am a grandma now so when I was toilet training my son, we didn't make a big production of it like parents do now...as soon as he could walk, I bought him a potty chair, told him that was where he was to go potty now, put him on it several times a day and praised him when he went...didn't take longer than a week..he was trained way before today's parents even start.

  87. I think the "right" age really depends on the individual child. I have three kids and it was definitely different w/each.

  88. My son is 19-months-old and while it seems the majority of experts would tell me it's too soon to potty train I think it's worth a shot. He has a really good vocabulary for his age so I really believe he's able to communicate these types of things to me. We've already started associating that there's potty in his diaper but mommy goes potty on the toilet. So we'll see what happens.

I'd love to give this program a shot because I would hate to have two in diapers and we hope to be pregnant in the next few months!

  89. I have a 30 month old grandson who is stuggling with potty training. His twin sister has been potty trained for 8 months now but he is another story. He goes a couple of times and then he has quite a few accidents and then he'll try again. No success whatsoever. Would love this.

  90. My son is only 9 months old, so no potty training in our near future!

I think it's nice to think that the "ideal" age is between 1-2, but personally I disagree. First of all, a baby is not physically capable of potty training until they are at least 18 months old. They literally cannot control their sphincter. They do not have the physical ability to "hold it." What you end up doing is forcing the baby to know their body really well, and instead of actually having any control over themselves they will rush to the bathroom, hoepfully in time, and just do what they were going to do.

So, I don't plan on even thinking about potty training until around 20-24 months of age. But really, I'm not even set on that! I don't want to give my son a neurosis about the bathroom (and yes, MANY people have them! they think it's shameful, and that no one should know, etc.). Because I have a boy, if he is potty trained at 3 I'll be thrilled!

  91. I have not started training my 2 1/2 year old son yet even though I know that he really needs to start.

  92. We've started working with my son. We take his diaper off when he get home from daycare and put on his "undies." He's pooped and peed on the potty several times (and had 1-2 accidents). I feel like he's doing really well for a 2 1/2 year old ... since I heard boys usually are much later than girls. My daughter was totally trained by this age -- but I guess that's just one of the differences between boys and girls! Ha!

  93. I don't have any stories but I'm hoping to start the potty training by the end of the year so my daughter will be potty trained by age 2! I hope we have a peaceful experience like yours.

  94. Yeah for Beauty! I'm so excited for both of you. My daughter is nearly 15 months, so we're still doing story time on the potty, and I have her sit on it just before bathtime. She's peed in it twice so far. But we're just taking our time and hoping that when she is ready for it, potty training won't be a big deal. Sounds like it worked for you!

  95. I found that you know when your child is ready. If you try to force the issue you end up with a confused child and frustrated parents.

  96. My 3 year old is fully potty trained! Now just yesterday my 19 month old daughter kept saying "poop" over and over again and sure enough a couple minutes later she had a dirty diaper. I think it might be time to start potty training her.

  97. potty training is always fun. i prefer to potty train over the summer. it's so much easier than dealing with tons of clothing plus if they need to go the great outdoors is right there.

but ultimately it's your child that decides if they are ready.

we do travel lots and usually try to drive while the kids nap which means we throw a pull-up on my son. he still sleeps with something on. we haven't started the whole staying dry thing at night...yet.

    fun fun.

  98. My daughter is not quite ready for potty training yet, but she loves trying to put toilet paper into the toilet. We might start introducing it to her at the end of the summer. No idea how we will go about it yet.

  99. I've been struggling potty training my son. I dont think there is any set age to start a child, its when he/she is ready. I am not using any "method". My daughter is up next.

  100. I am just starting potty training and my daughter is fascinated with her thrown. She is 18 months old and I have not gone to the extreme of not using diapers yet. I also put her on the potty in the morning, and thankfully we have a tiled floor too! We are winging it for the moment but would love this giveaway!
