baby products :: the 1st 3 months

Blink. The first 3 months whizzed right by and we now have a laughing baby with chunky thighs and eyes the color of the ocean.

Here's my completely unsponsored list of the 20 items we've been using most often over the past three months.

  1. Glamourmom Mbody Starter Nursing Bra. $39. Soft, Stretchy, Supportive, Higher Cut. My current *favorite.*
  2. Melinda G Tee-Shirt Nursing Bra. $44. Again - soft and supportive, without underwire.
  3. BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance. $150. Ideal for when I have to take a quick shower or do laundry.
  4. Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper Mini Bassinet. $140. This is where our wee one naps.
  5. Onesies. Almost all of the ones we have are handmedowns from sisters + friends. But that one is adorable, isn't it?
  6. Pampers Swaddlers. Our favorite brand for newborns through size 2.
  7. Hooter Hiders Nursing Cover$24. I actually have two nursing covers; I don't leave the house without one.
  8. Bulb Syringe. FREE from the birth center. Kindly referred to as the "nose sucker" in our house.
  9. aden + anais Swaddle Blankets. $38 for 4-pack. Ironically, we don't use these for swaddling, but as "sheets" for the bassinet.
  10. Washcloths. $6 for 12. So great to have little cloths on-hand for bathing.
  11. Bella Materna Anytime Nursing Gown. $92. SO comfortable (and chic too). The material is moisture-wicking and wonderful.
  12. Majamas Pachisi. ON-SALE FOR $37.50. Ultra-comfy. Ultra-cute. You'll want to wear them all day.
  13. Washable Nursing Pads. I bought the NUK brand (it was the only brand that Target carried!) and have been moderately happy with them, but Amazon raters give them terrible reviews. FYI.
  14. Britax Roundabout Car Seat. $153. Our newborn isn't a fan - of driving in the car, that is. Still, this car seat does its job well. P.S. My absolute favorite car seat is the Diono Radian (which our 3-year-old currently rides in). The narrow profile is ideal if you have multiple car seats.
  15. Summer Infant 4-Sided Changing Pad ($25) & Plush Cover ($10). We have this pad on a dresser in our bedroom.
  16. Kirkland Wipes. Best wipes ever. We buy them at Costco.
  17. BabyHawk Mei Tai. $90. My little one is still too little for the ERGO so we use the mei tai. Easy to wear (and pretty too!).
  18. ERGObaby Backpack. $40. I have an older version of the one pictured.
  19. Nikon D90. Gotta have a good camera. I would sacrifice a lot of baby gear to be able to capture good photos of my babies.
  20. iPhone. I use my phone to check facebook/twitter/emails, to scope out craigslist, to ask google about things, and to take photos/video.

There you have it. Our baby gear.

What baby products do you use most during the first 3 months?

  1. I have some old LLLI nursing bras that are still my most comfortable. I don't know what I'm going to do when they wear out because they don't make them anymore! But for night time I have 4 of the Majamas easy bras. Perfect!
Things I don't leave home without: my Sakura Bloom sling, my Bebe au Lait nursing cover, and my camera obviously! ;) I just got a new Nikon and I'm LOVING the fact that I can crank up my ISO and still get good shots of my kids wherever they are. :)
At home I have 2 Fisher Price bouncers and 2 sets of the Aden and Anais wraps. They were in constant use the first 3 months! Also some awesome burp cloths made by a friend (she has an etsy shop!) with terry cloth on one side and adorable flannel prints on the other. :)
We like Huggies (and Amazon is actually cheaper than Costco) and the Huggies wipes at Costco which are the same price as the Kirkland brand, at least the last 2 trips I've made.
I think that about sums it up!

    1. Majamas is such a great brand for new moms. I've tried several pairs of their pajamas and have never been disappointed.

Good to know that diapers are more affordable at Amazon than Costco. I've been meaning to price-check that.

  2. Your list is perfect!

Our favorite blankets were some big super soft flannel/knit ones that a friend of mine made for our oldest. They were awesome - and were big so they were good for laying on the carpet at a friends house to let the baby play on. The kids still use them although my five year old's feet stick out the bottom now when she tries to cover up with one :) She choose one of the 5 we have to give a friend of ours who recently had a baby - they love it too. And I have a confession... one of my nursing bras is still one of my favorite comfy bras and it's been a little over a year since my youngest was weaned!

I used the washable nursing pads too, but the Medela brand and they were good.

  3. Our baby will be 3 months on August 9. You're so right; it flies by! Our baby doesn't like the car either!

I am a newbie with babywearing. It wasn't on my radar with my first baby, but after finding your blog and Adventures in Babywearing, I am a convert! I have the Baby K'Tan and we love it. It was easy to figure out and offers multiple wearing positions. It is rated for babies up to 40 lbs. We used it starting at 2 weeks. I bought it at Buy Buy Baby for $44 (that was using a coupon).

Here's the rest of our list:
Target wipes (but now I'll try the Costco ones)
    Pampers Swaddlers
    Boppy
Udder Cover (like a Hooter Hider but my friend had an extra one she gave me)
Gilligan & O'Malley nursing tanks from Target

    1. Pampers Swaddlers are my favorite brand of disposables, by far.

In case you're ever tempted to try Luvs, please don't. We received a bag of those as a gift and they are terrible - leaking like crazy. Just an FYI. ;)

  4. My little guy is 8 months old and I didn't buy much for him in the first few months (they outgrow so much of the gear so quickly and we also have a small apartment). We had the Fisher Price Rock n' Play next to the bed and he slept through the night early on while swaddled and placed in it. I like that it folds up nicely too.

  5. We have very similar lists (shocker ;)). I have been using the BabyHawk Mei Tai too, but have also found the infant insert for the ERGO to be tremendously useful this time around. My Sakura Bloom ring sling is the other carrier I never leave home without (yes, that means I have 3 carriers in the car ready to go at any particular time!).

    1. I've seen a few pictures on Facebook of you wearing that Sakura Bloom sling. Stunning!

P.S. How are you so svelte after just delivering a baby? I'm amazed.

  6. You've suggested that Melinda G bra for awhile & I know why!! I used it when I nursed my youngest (off a suggestion you made on here) and I loved that bra! So comfy!!

    1. So glad that you're a fan of Melinda G too! That brand offers the perfect combination of soft and supportive.
