BEST OF 2008: P'kolino's Little Reader

pkolino_logoHooray for P'kolino's Little Reader! This little chair deserves five twinkling stars because...

It's:

  • Stylish
  • Colorful
  • Cozy
  • Easy to Clean
  • "Carryable"

p'kolino little reader in useThe Little Reader is specifically designed for toddlers (ages 1-4) because it is stain-resistant and sturdy...yet little ones can tote it around the house themselves thanks to the fact that it is lightweight and features a convenient carry handle. Plus, there are pockets on either side for books or other "treasures."

p'kolino little reader 5 colorsMy daughter is absolutely enamored by her "purple chair" and she sits in it daily - to read, to relax after running sprints across our great room, or to watch a quick movie on "her" iPod (yes, she's two and she has an iPod...there is a story behind that...).

I'm equally impressed by the chair because it is sophisticated enough to "blend in" with our decor and it doesn't take up a huge amount of space. Of course, I also appreciate that I can take off the cover and throw it in the washing machine if any accidents occur. Finally, I love that fact that it encourages independence since she can easily tote it from room-to-room herself...and I'm a big fan of the name/purpose of the chair (anything that is created to inspire a love of reading is a winner in my book).

Available in five eye-popping colors, the P'kolino Little Reader retails at $79.99.

WIN IT! One winner will receive a Pkolino's Little Reader in the color of her choice ($79.99). To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Wednesday, December 31 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

NOTE: For additional information, please feel free to read my original review, published on 03-25-2008.

*UPDATE* The winner is #66 Cathy W. Congratulations!

  1. I love that. I've been on a search for a little chair for my son. He currently sits on his potty chair to read, brush his teeth, visit with family. He really could use another chair to sit on, although I have enjoyed "getting my money's worth" of the potty chair. I would choose green.
    Thanks for the entry

  2. Looks like a great chair, my four year old and one year old would battle it out for who would get to sit in it all the time. I think the green would actually match our decor, vs. the children's room decor and would blend in like you were saying (our old chair was one of those animal chairs, that you fall out of when you try to sit in it) I think my boys would both love it, thanks for the chance to win

  3. My 5 year old loves to read but doesn't have a seat of his own. He just makes piles of books in the corner of the couch and reads them all. He would love his own chair.

  4. Ohhhhh...Purple/Light Purple would be my choice if I should win this for the youngest member of our little tribe of readers.

  5. WONDERFUL item! I would love to win a blue or green one. I would donate this to my kindergarten classroom for the young authors and readers to sit in to promote their learning and mark their milestones!

  6. I think the green is too cute! It would be perfect for my two-year-old! Thank you so much for the great contest!

  7. Those are cute chairs. I would love to win the red one for my little granddaughter. Thanks for having the contest and Happy New Year to all.

  8. We have two "foam" chairs and they are always falling over with wee man in them... In fact, one the foam arms seperated from the chair... So these look so much more comfortable and sturdy!..

  9. the purple one is adorable .if i win , ill have to buy a matching one bc i know my girls will fight over it. it is too cute.

  10. What a creative, comfy-looking chair! I would love to have it in purple. Thanks for the fun giveaway. (Also, your "rules" link seems to be down. :))

  11. Those chairs are super cute. I love the colors, and the fact they are stain-resistant and sturdy. My kids like to "re-arrange" things and it looks like these are perfect for little decorators.

  12. Our large church is starting a new ministry to handicapped children and as an Occupational Therapist, I can easily see that this chair would greatly benefit this population. It can easily be cleaned and carried and accomodated a variety of special needs. Thank you for educating us, again. Sheila

  13. This super-cute and useful chair would be perfect for our budding toddler. She is obsessed with books and I could see it really coming in handy as she grows. I think I would go with green because of the color scheme(around Grandma's quilt)that I am envisioning when she jumps bedrooms for future Baby # 2.

  14. These chairs are truly adorable. And would be so Perfect for my daughter. she would definitely feel like a big girl with her new chair.
Thank you so much for offering this wonderful giveaway.
    Happy Holidays !

  15. I would love to have this chair in red for my son. Right now he has one of those little kid couch's with Elmo on it and it is outdated, can't be cleaned easily and is in sad shape. I also love the fact that it can be easily cleaned. Thanks!

  16. My daughter would love one of these. I would have a hard time choosing a color though. I like purple but her favorite color right now is blue. lol Maybe I could talk her into getting the purple one if we were lucky enough to win. thank you!!

  17. My 14 month old would love this chair! He has a little chair at grandmas and thinks he's so cool when he sits in it. I know he'd love the blue one, but the green one goes well with my decor hmmm....Thanks for an opp to win!

  18. Both of my sons would go crazy over this! Definitely a good way to encourage them to read more. Thanks for a great giveaway :)

  19. great idea to get kids and parents together."Louise get a book and your pretty new chair and I will read you a story".

Or" Louise sit on your pretty new chair and read the book PA PA gave you.

    GREAT PRIZE

  20. Any color would be great as my little grandson loves his colorful room of many colors. I would like to add that this is a great little chair and the fact that the cover can just be removed and thrown in the washer is fantastic. My little guy loves little chairs the only problem is when he expects me to sit my not so little rear in the little chairs with him.

  21. My little pre schooler would love the green chair to do his reading. They are so nice and he would feel so special. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  22. FYI: I tried to read your rules, but your site said that page was unavailable. ;)

My girls would love this. The only problem with winning is that they'd have to share it. :) Not a bad thing, mind you. Just one of those sibling things, eh? *grin*

    I love the green one!

  23. Purple is my little one's favorite color so this is a no-brainer!!! She loves to "read" and would really enjoy this!

    sherri419 at gmail dot com

  24. My granddaughter would love the purple and my grandson would love blue so I guess it would be a surprise as to the color if I were the lucky winner!

  25. This chair is so cute. My children just got their own tv for Christmas and I could use this chair to make their own little sitting area in their room.

  26. I love the look and design of this chair. How fun for little ones to have their very own place to sit, sized just for them. Great idea and product! Would love it for our son.

  27. This is so cool! My boys are too big for this now, but I wish I could have found this when they were the right size. I would love to send this to my 2-year-old nephew, who follows the family tradition of loving books :)

  28. These are great. And I love that my 2 1/2 year old could take their chair to whatever room the boys are playing in. I also like that they covers are washable, because my two boys are always spilling something. I would love to win one of these, the green is my favorite.

  29. I'd love to win the red to match with our living room decor. This is a daling little chair that our little darling would just adore. She received a camping chair for Christmas and wouldn't get out of it! I can only imagine how much she'd love something so plush!

  30. Fabulously cozy, supremely stable, and fashionably funky! Yellow / Orange would be a cute addition to the play room.

  31. The blue would be a big hit at our house. Love that the cover is washable because besides the accidents, there might be a cat (or two) who would find this chair comfy too....when we're not looking!

  32. When I was a kid, my sister and I each had our own wicker & wood chairs, I would love to give my daughter her own special chair. And I like that it's called a "reading chair" - I hope she'll be doing a lot of that.

  33. There's nothing more comfortable than cozying up with a good book in a chair that fits your body. I can only imagine it's the same way with little ones. My son loves orange. I can see him now sitting in the chair with his favorite book.

  34. I think my dd would also fall in love with this chair. She loves to look at books so this would be perfect. I think I would have to go with purple too.

  35. I would have to find out for sure what my granddaughter's favorite color is! We have been thinking about getting her a chair for our house.

  36. Thankfully our son is already very fond of "reading"---but I imagine with a chair like this I'd never be able to tear him away from his books! Thanks for the giveaway.

  37. Humm, I think I now know why I don't remember the original review. We were still in the crawling stage at that time and I wasn't even thinking of a chair for my son. Now at 18 months, this would make a great "reading" chair for my son. The green one would go nicely with our living room furniture.

  38. My daughter would love this chair. I also checked out Pikolino's website and I think I'm going to have to get one of their toddler beds. I love that it converts into a chair. Thanks for letting us know about this product.

  39. My cousins little boy got one of those recliner chairs for kids and my niece went crazy for it. She'd love a chair of her own that is comfy like this. She does have her own rocking chair but I think she'd love the P'kolino. I think I like the green best but would be willing to let the girls pick their own colors.

  40. we have kinda a modern theme in our nursery so I think this chair would fit really well. I think I would have to go with the red one, as that's the accent color in the room!

  41. We have a little fold out couch for Mikayla but she is really outgrowing that. This chair would be perfect for and and anyway if it is too small for her Lily will sure need this in the next 6 months or so.

  42. I would love to win the green/light green chair...that way it would work if baby #2 is a boy! We have plenty of purples and pinks now!! m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com

  43. these look so much better made than the cheapy chairs you find at mass retailers, love the red color too, it's nice to see a simple chair without some licensed character on it

  44. I would love to win this for my little grandson. His sister has a Dora chair and is very possesive ot it. I love the red/light red chair!

  45. I love the simple, clean lines of the chair and color selection is always a plus! Thank you for the link!

  46. I love the look of these kiddo chairs! I would love to review one of them, too! :)

Anyway, I love the red one best~ but the green is super cute, too!

    Thanks for the great giveaway~

  47. My little guy has suddenly discovered the art of climbing up onto chairs. Maybe if I had one like this he would be happy enough with it and if wouldn't come falling over on him like our table chairs do. We tried finding a study safe chair around here for Christmas for him but none were to be found. This would be wonderful in blue for my little guy. Thanks for the chance to win.

  48. I'd love a blue one!! My little guy loves to climb up in his sister's rocking chair, but it's not stable! This would be great for him!

  49. Oh, I remember this review. I loved the idea so much I found a little chair in a resale store to put in my daughters room. I will say though this one is nicer than the I got and well, I have two girls so we'll need two chairs eventually.

  50. I'd never heard of this company. I love the toddler beds, too. Thank you for the giveaway and alerting me to their products. The chair is too, too cute!

  51. These are, indeed, very attractive little chairs. They have a fun color selection, although I know going in what the little girl would choose -- purple, of course. (The link to your rules doesn't work, so I hope I am following them.)

  52. My 15 month old loves to sit and read. Right now she uses her booster seat, lol, in the living room. It hasn't been used at all for a booster seat. We have a basket of books right next to it and she'll spend easily an hour looking through books. So very sweet...especially since her mama is a librarian and loves to read!

    [email protected]

  53. I love the purple! I love to encourage all the kids in the family to read, including my first grandchild, I look forward to sharing my favorite books with a new generation

  54. This is another one that is right up my alley. I am a home child care provider and would absolutely love to try this. We like the purple one! Happy Holidays everyone!

  55. What a stylish chair.... it does look perfect for sitting in the library surrounded by books.... all within arm's reach. And.... purple is my daughter's new favorite color.

  56. My god daughter would heart the purple one!! I love that the chair has pockets ~ she loves to keep all her little this and that's close by.

  57. I like the blue/light blue one best. My 2 year old son would love it. He walks around with one the little tykes chairs, but it is so old and unsteady that I worry about it falling over/backwards when he's in it. It's not a very comfy chair to hang out in - he is more likely to carry it around as a bench to stand on. This P'kolino chair sounds like it would be perfect for Joseph!! And I'm sure his older sister would try to squeeze in to.

I like that it is so durable and comfy. and cute too!!

  58. These chairs are so cute. Just perfect for my little guy. I love the blue the best. Thanks so much for this giveaway.

  59. These are so adorable! My kids would love these...hmmm purple for my daughter or green for my son! They are both such book worms that I know they would love a special chair for reading and thinking!

  60. My son loves to sit and read his books, I know he'd be thrilled to have his very own chair. He watches Blues Clues and asks "Where is my thinking chair?" so I think we'd go with red.

  61. This is so sweet! My son would love to sit in it to read his favorite books or to watch his beloved Thomas movies!

  62. Little kids truly love little chairs that fit them. I've been wondering if I'll have to splurge for my 2 girls one of these days. Thanks for the chance!

  63. My little guy would love this. He has a stuffed Tigger chair that he has outgrown but he still tries to sit in it all the time. I think he'd like the blue one the most.

  64. I was like "What is a little reader?" and now that I've seen it OMG I want one!!! I'd love it in blue for my little grandson!

  65. I would love for Levi to have one of those. He's always trying to climb onto chairs and couches. It be great for him to have a chair that was all his. I'm torn between the green one and the blue one. So cute!

  66. Wow! These look fabulous, and I know J would LOVE having her own chair. I would choose the red one, but J's favorite color is blue, so that's probably what we would go with. Thanks for the chance to enter!

  67. This looks like such a fun product. The only problem with owning one, would be the fights that would be sure to ensue between my 2 little ones as to which would get to be in it! With 2 boys, and a 3rd on the way, I think we would pick the fun green color.

  68. Oh This is delightful!!! The little Reader Chair! The pockets on the side priceless. Washable, couldn't do without that either, light enough for a 1 year old to carry, and it comes in a multitude of colors. Purple is my favorite and I would love to win for my granddaughter!

  69. The purple chair would be great for my 17-month old niece. There are several items on their website that would be great for toddlers :)

  70. Never seen anything like this before. Great chair for a little one.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter
    Have a great holiday!

  71. When our little ones see us curl up in a chair for a good read, it follows that they'd love one of their very own. (And know exactly what to do in it.) I'd choose the green chair.

  72. Every little one enjoys having their own chair. This adorable chair would encourage increased time spent with books. Always a plus...

  73. I love these! I also really appreciate anything that promotes reading (as a reading specialist) and I think every reader deserves a cute and comfy chair! My kiddo would love the purple. Oh, and I want to know what's up with your 2 year old having an iPod. (That makes me feel pretty backward, since I haven't indulged myself with one yet!) :)

  74. Oh my! Met mama you have the BEST giveaways! I would die for this! My tot desperately needs something like this (I haven't had the chance to go out and get her something yet and maybe I won't have to)!! Currently she sits on boxes of groceries or water bottles when she wants to read or do stuff or of course on our big chairs and sofas but something her size for reading and relaxing in would be AMAZING! I LOVE the colors too! I'd probably go with the orange or red... :) fingers crossed!!

  75. I have two small comfy chairs for our two older boys but need one for this new baby - who will be a little boy before I know it! That blue would rock :--)

  76. We have had some trouble with little chairs that we have purchased for our son because they tend to tip over on him. This one looks wonderful. I don't think we would have that problem, and he would love to have a chair to call his own!

  77. Cheeks absolutely loves little "her-sized" chairs. We just took her one year old pictures yesterday, and we could not get her off of the little tiny couch they had. She climbs all over Blondie's little chair but would love to have her own. So fun!

  78. Oh, I can see Roo in the purple and Jasper in the green but I especially love P'kolino's Little Reader Special Edition with the animal prints... the zebra and cheetah would look great in our own little jungle room...

  79. what a wonderful chair! We've done the bean bag-chair route before, and you know, its just not sturdy enough. My son slips right off it since the 'beans' all shuffle and shift around. As an avid reader, he'd love his own chair to cuddle up in! :)

  80. What a great little seat and I love the fact that you can just put the cover in the washing machine when needed. I would love to win the orange one if I win. Fingers crossed!

  81. I've tried a few small chairs in the past, but they've never lasted. I think the key is the removable/washable cover that this Little Reader boasts! Plus it looks so much sturdier than the other chairs we've had, too. I would definitely love to see this chair making a home right next to our kids' bookshelves - I have no doubts it would encourage them to sit down and read a little more often... instead of just dumping their books on the floor, like they tend to do! ;)

Thanks for the giveaway. I would choose the green if I were to win!
