A new kind of pregnancy/baby care book has finally arrived.
Dr. Alan Greene's Raising Baby Green: The Earth-Friendly Guide to Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Baby Care is a book for modern parents. It goes beyond just what to expect and answers questions about everything from how (and why) to eat organically to what you really need in your hospital bag to how to treat an ear infection without antibiotics.
I was skeptical when I first read the title, dismissing it as just another baby book. But it's really quite different. In fact, it's the best parenting/pregnancy book that I read in 2008.
If I were to go out and buy a book for a pregnant friend, I would choose this one over What to Expect When You're Expecting and Your Pregnancy: Week by Week. It's just as comprehensive, but it goes beyond just the typical medical perspective.
Dr. Greene is a physician with a "natural bent," which I appreciate. He doesn't just spew out the latest reports from the ACOG and the AAP. He provides gentle encouragement and reassurance to new parents about how to birth and raise happy, healthy kids...who aren't hooked on medications, pesticides, and processed food.
WIN IT! One winner will receive a copy of Raising Baby Green by Dr. Alan Greene. To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Wednesday, December 31 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.
NOTE: For additional information, please feel free to read my original review, published on 02-26-2008.
*UPDATE* The winner is #27 Renee. Congratulations!
I am that friend! It would be perfect. :)
Just found out my good friend from high school is pregnant with her first. This book would be perfect for her. Thanks.
I really want to read this book, I browsed through it at barnes and nobel and was tempted to buy it, I'm very into the "greener" living like everyone is now it seems. Glad to hear you liked it.

I almost bought this book for myself awhile back but for some reason never did. I think I got something different instead but now I don't remember what, maybe the Vaccine Book? I saw this one again a bit ago in my Amazon wish list and was wondering if it would still be as helpful now that babies are getting not so baby anymore. I'd still like to have it, who knows, maybe there will be 3!
When I found out I was pregnant I decided that I was going to start living healthier and eating better for my child. Now that she's here, I'm finding it hard to make the changes... I think this book would be so helpful.
I'm becoming increasingly aware how important our environment is to our young children. I would love to have this book as a resource.
I would love to win!
Since having my daughter 18 months ago, we've been doing little things to live a more healthy and green life. I would love to learn what more we could do! Thanks! m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com

What a great gift for my daughter who is due at the beginning of the year. She is so eco-friendly and this would be so wonderful for her. Great ideas I'm sure to help her out. This is her first baby so I hope this win is for her!!
Thanks
Always interested in reading more about environmentally safe products... would be a great addition to my library.
I'll be looking into this title - I'm going a bit greener each time and with #3 on the way soon, it's time to make some positive changes!
This sounds like a great book! Thanks for letting me know its out there! Def will have to pick it up at the library the next time I'm there and then maybe recommend it (or get it for)all my expecting friends!! :)
Thank you. We need this.
my daughter could really use this book
Being a bookworm and very environmentally-interested and active, I would love to receive this book. Thanks for sharing the opportunity.
I've really wanted to read this book, but my local library doesn't have it. I'd love to win a copy.

This looks like a great read. Definitely picking it up if I don't win :)
Wow! This book looks fabulous! J's past the "baby" stage, but it would make a great gift for a friend who's expecting, and I'd still love to read it! Thanks for the chance to enter!
Cool book!
This sounds excellent, and I would love to learn to be more "green" with my babies & kiddos.
sounds like a great book-- there is alot of information out there - and it takes alot of reeducating on doing it green
I would love this.
What timing. I just wrote a post about getting back into the groove of green with this new baby coming. And how I needed advice on certain topics of green. This book would be an answer to those and many more questions I have I'm sure!
I've borrowed this book from the library and really enjoyed it. I would love to have a copy of my own to have on hand whenever I need it. Thanks so much!
Im wanting to win this.
This sounds great. I am doing my best to raise a "green" child--and in the process changing many of my habits to be more green conscious.
This sounds like a wonderful book!
I'd love to win. This is my first child.
I'd love to win!
love to raise our grandson green conscious
I would love to have the opportunity to give this a read. I have been trying to find ways to go green and I'm sure this would provide lots of ideas. I'm really interested in treating ear infections without antibiotics. Thanks for another great giveaway.
"The rules" link doesn't seem to be working, but thanks for the giveaway!
Okay, I'm really interested if you think it's better than What to Expect; that was like one of my bibles during pregnancy. I also LOVE my week-by-week type pregnancy books; it's so fun to see what the current miracle is in my body! I don't even know if I'm gonna have another kid or not, but I still want the book to read and pass on to other pregnant friends. Thanks!
