Children's Book Giveaway: Little Color Fairies

New in 2012, Mara Van Fleet creates a magical world of colors and sparkles for toddlers to enjoy.

Children's Book Giveaway: Little Color Fairies 1

The fun begins with the front cover, which features three childlike fairies and a pull-out handle that makes the wings flap. Each page then spotlights one color (eleven colors in all). Rhyming text makes for a read-aloud that slips off the tongue. Little ones will also appreciate the interactive nature of the book - fabrics to feel, arrows to pull, etc.

The "plot" of the story revolves around the fairies dressing a princess for a rainbow ball. All of the characters are refreshingly not grown-up. There are no tiny waists or low-cut dresses - only cheerful faces.

  1. I know the giveaway is passed, but wanted to thank you for the recommendation anyway. This book looks lovely and I know I would appreciate the lack of scantily-clad pin-up girl fairies :)

  2. I love that this is about fairies (which my daughter loves) but it is still age appropriate. So many stories out there today for kids have things that I am just not comfortable with.

  3. I think I've made a monster! I got my niece started on The Candy Fairy and Rainbow Fairies book series and now she can't get enough! I think she would really love this book :)

  4. My daughter would adore this book! We just redid her room with fairies and such, and she loves books with moving elements, such as the wings with the pull out tab on the front. We're also working on getting the colors down, so i'm sure this would help her learn them!

  5. My daughter will love this book. She is my little princess and she loves reading about fairies, princess', and castles!

  6. This looks so cute! Is K reading yet? Analise knows all her letters, all the sounds they make, but is so uninterested in reading. We have the BOB books which she likes, but she just tries to memorize them and guess from the pictures, not actually sound out the words. We have time, but alas...I feel like I should be doing more to get her reading.

    1. Not yet. She knows her letters and many of the sounds. Plus, she enjoys "reading" books (aka memorizing them and then repeating them to her little sister) and listening to chapter books.

But we haven't been proactive about actually using a curriculum or a "teach your child to read in X number of lessons" type of program. Perhaps we'll try that after baby #3 is born? (I feel like we should be doing more too).

  7. My little one Lily would love this book! Lily loves fairies and princesses. We were in Moab this past weekend and looking for a new sleeping bag and I said our old one had princesses on it. Lily quickly spoke up and said no, it is fairies! Lily is truly my girlie girl. She loves fairies, princesses, and babies. But at the same time she is also happy to go and make sand pies in the creek.

  8. My toddler just loves to read and especially loves books she can interact with (feel, pull, turn, etc). This would be so fun for her Easter basket! :)

  9. Okay, I guess we need some more "girly" themed books in our house to counteract all the trucks and cars and things that go "boom" books! ;)

  10. The illustrations look beautiful. I am sure my granddaughter would love this book and I love the thought of encouraging her to read.

  11. I WOULD LIKE TO WIN THIS FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER...SHE LOVES HAVING SOME READ TO HER AND TO LOOK AT THE PICTURES

  12. What a cute book! I am trying to build my baby girl's book library and this would be perfect. We have tons of children's books I have gotten for my son over the years, but some fun girly one's would be great to add too.

  13. I love the illustrations of this book, I have 2 little princesses of my own who are playing fairy all the time. In fact I have 3 boys that follow those princesses pretending girl stuff is icky but they love these books too. Thank you so much for a chance to win this wonderful book!

  14. Aww I love fairies. This book looks so sweet. And now that I have a granddaughter and one on the way, this would be the perfect addition to their library.
