Curly Girl

curly hair solutions logo"People with straight hair always want curly hair; people with curly hair always want straight hair."

Except me.

curly-hair-solutions-3I have always loved my naturally curly locks.

Sure, there were moments in my pre-teen and teenage years where I looked longingly at the silky straight hair of actresses and models. But, even then, I never really envied it.

I liked the convenience of curly hair too much. When I see "convenience," I mean the ability to jump out of bed, take a shower, and let my hair air dry. No blow-dryer, no curling iron, no hair spray, no nothing.

  • I liked it in high school when I pushed the alarm clock one too many times.
  • I liked it in college when I stayed up too late and still wanted to look presentable at class the next morning.
  • I like it now - as a mom - because I barely have five minutes to take a shower, let alone to style my hair.

That said, curly hair does have its "disadvantages" too. It can get frizzy. It can be dry. And hair stylists rarely "understand" curly hair.

The few times I have had my hair done by a professional stylist, I have been disappointed. Not by the final outcome. But by the amount of time they take to "style" my hair. Every single time, the stylist STRAIGHTENS my hair and then curls it with a curling iron!!! I kid you not.

Anyway, I recently found a product that does a fantastic job of eliminating frizz and defining my curls. It's called Curl Keeper by Curly Hair Solutions. When I first watched the "how-to" video, I was a little skeptical. But then I tried it myself - and my curls transformed into gorgeous ringlets...and I have pictures to prove it:

curly-hair-solutions-1 curly-hair-solutions-2

Essentially, I just comb out my hair using the Bone Comb and then use my fingers to manually "curl" and "scrunch." It's a little hard to explain, but the "How To" Styling Video will give you the 1-2-3 if you're interested. It's a relatively fast and easy process. I actually didn't spend as much time as the video demonstrates...and my curls still turned out very nice.

curl keeper by curly hair solutionsThe only downside of the product is the price. Curl Keeper is $8.25 for a 4 oz bottle, $15.50 for an 8 oz bottle, or $42 for a 33.8 oz bottle. That's a little (okay, a lot...) more than I typically spend on products for my hair (especially since I currently spend about...oh...let me add it up...zero dollars!). That said, I just might fork over the dough and buy some when my 4 oz bottle runs out. I like it that much.

Curly Hair Solutions products are natural, biodegradable, and not tested on animals. They are available for purchase online and at several select salons in the Toronto area.

  4. ~~OMG~~
I totally NEED this....my hair is so super curly I would LOVE to try this!!!

    Thanks for the chance!! :)

  5. I honestly haven't had my curls cut in years. It always looks stupid and whatever "style" they come up with takes too much work to recreate. Problem is that I live in humidville. I end up with frizz instead of defined curls. I would love to try this product and see what happens!

  6. This stuff sound perfect for me! I haven't had a haircut in over a year because I haven't found anyone who I trust with curly hair. I try EVERY new product (o.k. not EVERY - just those that don't cost a mint) for curly hair because I need stuff to keep them soft, curly and NOT frizzy. Thanks for the chance to win something that might help and doesn't hurt the planet or little animals.

  7. This would be great to try. My hair is curly and I am having so much trouble with it since my hairdresser messed up-and it has been 6 months!

  8. I've been struggling with my overly thick, curly hair for 27+ years now...I'm always looking for new products to try!

  9. My granddaughter has very curly hair. She doesn't want anyone to mess with it but she wants something done about it.

  10. I'd love to try it. I have curly, wavy hair too which is beautiful if I let it go natural but I do have problems with frizz so I generally just straighten it all. However, I'm so sick of doing that every day. I'd love to try this!

  11. I am happy to see that these products are natural, biodegradable, and not tested on animals.
Gotta mention your daughter (big sis) sure looks alot like u.I would imagine a lot of people tell u that, though.

  12. Like you I have natural curly hair and have always loved it - but it tends to curl any way that it wants (my niece has naturally curly hair too but irons and flat irons it because she hates it!). I'd love to try this system to see if I could get ringlets also, for a change! Thanks for the chance to win!

  13. I have straight thin hair but somehow was blessed with a daughter with extremely thick curly hair. She is almost 13 and how her hair looks has become very important to her. We have a terrible time controlling her frizzies and making her curls look defined so I would love to try these products on her! Thanks!

  15. I have naturally curly hair that I cut short (above the ears) in Novemember and am letting grow out. I now look like little orphan annie, sigh...

I use to blow my hair straight and embraced my curls a year ago. It has been hit or miss when the final "style". The instruction videos are very helpful.

  17. Hurrah for curls! :-) I forced mine straight (well, frizzy-wavy-almost-straight) until I was 18, then chopped them all off, and have since let them grow back, soooo long...and I would be elated to try these products to make em beautiful! :-)

  20. I have curly hair too and I just put some gel in my hair and let it dry naturally. I like trying new hair products.

Thank you for doing all the hard work of a giveaway and thank you to the sponsor for their generosity.

  28. My son has curly hair. We've tried so many hair products on it and we've yet to find a product that works well. I hate forking over so much money for a product and then the product not working well in his hair. It would be nice to win this, so that I can try more products without spending and arm and a leg;-)

  29. ok so this is somethng good for my curly hair. glad theres stuff for people like me. ou always have good givaways. hope i win this but we will see happy mothers day

  31. I have curly hair, but I have to use a lot of conditioner on it to keep it from frizzing. I like the frizz-free products on the market that they didn't have when I was younger.

  32. My hair is wavy/curly, but if I'm anywhere that's humid it's spastic curly! I'd like to see how this will make my hair look. Thanks for the contest!

  35. my sister has super curly corkscrew curls. she has a really hard time trying to find products that will keep her hair from being frizzy. this looks like something that might be helpful to her. I'd love this for her. thanks.

  40. I've been looking for products that would be good for frizz control. I'd like to try this one.

  41. willing to try anything to control my long, thick, frizzy curls. Haven't found that magic "combo" of products and techniques that works yet and I'm almost 40!!!

  42. i have curly hair, in the winter it is dry and in the summer it can get frizzy. i love my curls but a bad hair day can be a nightmare.

  43. I do the same as you do when it comes to my uber-curly hair. I'm always looking for ways to make my hair better, but I'm not complaining with my current products. I'd like to win this set, though, to have for my friends' weddings this year. Just to give my hair some more "oomph".

  44. As strange as this sounds, I have wavy, curly hair but only when it's damp! After my hair dries it seems like the curls go out (maybe the weight of my hair???)My daughter's hair is the same way!

  45. I have wavy hair, but in the wrong places. So, I have to make it curly or straighten it. I usually opt for straight. I would love to try this product. Please count me in. Thanks!!

  46. I have curly hair and im going to get a perm to lossen my curl because it is so bad. If I dont have gel or hair spray in my hair I will have a fro like back in the 70s.

  47. I have curly hair that sometimes gets more wavy and frizzy than curly. I've heard such great things about this product. I'd love to win it!

  48. My daughter would really appreciate this giveaway! She has extremely curly, sometimes kinky, hair. Anything that would tame her mane would be great! Thanks

  49. My hair is also naturally curly, and tends to get frizzy after it dries naturally. I've tried many curling gels, but they all leave my hair looking wet and crunchy! I would love to try this product. Thanks!

  50. I have naturally curly hair and am always looking for a product that works....leaves the curl without leaving my hair too stright...but helps with the frizz...would love to try this. thanks.

  51. WOW~ I would love to try something like this. I have some what wavy hair and but i always straighten it I would love to see how I would look like with curly hair I love the curly hair look, an so dose my fiance to..heehee,well thank you for your time.

  52. I have wavy-curly hair. It's nothing like your gorgeous locks! I definitely have to work at it to make it somewhat presentable. It *does* take curl from hot curlers/curling iron well, though, which means if there's a special occasion and I have a bit of time I can get it looking decent. I always have a hard time finding products to use daily, though. Sigh. It's the day-to-day that's frustrating!

  53. I'm with you-I love my naturally curly hair. I have never straightened it (people have actually asked me why I've never tried it-um, why bother?) and never want to-too much time! I spend less than 5 minutes on my hair in the morning, it's heaven! I was SO hoping my daughter would get my hair...but alas, it's straight. I don't even know what to do with straight hair! Anyway, I LOVE finding good curly hair products-they are few and far between-thanks for the chance to win some!

  54. Oh, how lovely!

I have pretty wavy hair. It doesn't form ringlets the way that yours does (and yours is beautiful!) but it gets quite curly and *definitely* needs product in order to not be frizzy!

  55. My daughter and I both have wavy hair. I wonder if this would make our wavy's a little more curly? Did the product make your hair feel crunchy or full of gunk?

Your pictures are so pretty. What brand and color of lipstick do you use? It is such a great color on you!!

  56. As a fellow curly-headed girl, I've pretty much given up on trying to understand my hair. Don't get me wrong, I love my curls and I've never wished for straight hair, it's just that at 32 years of age my hair never looks the same depending on the weather, how I slept the night before, etc. I'd love to try Curly Hair Solutions.

  57. My hair is middle-of-the road. Sometimes it's curly, sometimes it isn't. I usually just throw some gel in it right out of the shower and put it up for the day, because I hate when my hair falls in my face. However, these products look wonderful! I would love to try some.

  58. I have naturally curly hair which I fought and hated for about 30 years! I finally tired of trying to be something I was not and just went with it. It has never looked better. I would love to try these products.

  59. Your hair looks great! My hair is naturally curly, but I usually straighten it because to me, keeping it curly is too much work. I know that probably sounds backwards, but I can go a few days with straight hair without washing it, whereas with curly hair I have to wash it or at least wet it down really good (and then wait like four hours for it to dry!) every day.

Sometimes, though -- like today! -- I didn't feel like straightening. I used some Ouidad gel. Have you heard of that company? It's expensive stuff too. But I will definitely look into Curly Hair Solutions.

  60. ooooo. I'm impressed! Watched part of the video - that girl has AMAZING hair to begin with! I love my naturally curly/wavy hair, but some days since its so thin I have a hard time getting it stay cute after I style it! It just falls flat. But it looks like the curl keeper is great for building volume too. Does it get any better than that?!

  61. I SO want to try this! My hair is wavy, easy to straighten but not as easy to curl, though I could get it there with the right product.

  62. The summer humidity in MN makes my hair go from smooth ringlets to a huge frizzy mess! I'm always looking for products to help in the summer, and in the winter too! But, like you, I wouldn't trade my curls, waves, frizz for anything- I do love waking up, showering, and going!

  63. I have curly/wavy/frizzy hair, and am always looking for good products to help me keep it under control! This would be really nice.

  64. Yup, I'm a curly/frizzy-headed lady, too! :) I have tried to straighten it at times (and even own a straightener), but it never really works. I have learned to like my curls and the fact that I can just throw my hair into a ponytail and keep going. However, I ALWAYS have frizz at the top of my head, and no product has ever made it go away. I think that's just the way my hair is, but I'd like to try this product and see what it can do. :)

  65. i have wavy hair..they become curly with humidity and straight w/ dry climates. this would be nice to use for a change on a night out! :) thanks.

  66. In the past couple years my hair has become more curly (a result of pregnancy perhaps). I'd love to try something to enhance my curls. It would certainly make for an easier morning!

  67. I, too, have naturally curly hair, albeit, not as curly as yours! However, it is curly enough that, on days like today when the weather is humid outside, it frizzes and drives my CRAZY! I have tried/am trying various styling products, but nothing has taken away that frizziness factor. If this would work, I'd pay for it, too!

  68. I too have always appreciated my curly hair & the simplicity of "styling" it with little more than a scrunch and an air dry. But, I have yet to find the perfect product for it - it's so long & thick, it takes a lot of product to do it, so I don't ever feel justified in buying a very expensive one...but I have yet to find a cheap one that really does what I want it to! So I would be thrilled to try the Curl Keeper system, although with such thick hair, I'm a little skeptical about having to manually "curl & scrunch" every ringlet...it might take me an hour!

  69. I love your hair I had no idea it was natural curl. I have a little natural curl, but nothing compared to you. Now I think I want a perm. This product sounds great and I would love to try it!

  70. My hair is that wonderful 'in between' hair - I have to try to make pretty curls, or try to straighten it - By itself, it's just frizzy and straight at the top and curly on the bottom- -scary! I would love to try this product!

  71. I have naturally curly hair and I also have a hard time when I get my hair done by a stylist. I find that they cut off way too much hair! I don't think they realize how much it will curl afterward. It is very convenient to "wash and go" with kids, but I find that my hair feels very "crunchy" by the time it's all dry. Maybe it's the products that I'm using. I just use herbal essenses mousse. i find that it holds my curl the best. Who knows.

  72. I'd like to win this for my niece. She has naturally curly red hair. She hasn't quite embraced her curly hair yet, she's 15.

    Thanks!

  73. I am dying to try this. I try every kind of curly hair product around and i'm never quite satisfied....KMS gel is expensive but pretty good and I like the TIGI "Curls Rock" Series, but I still battle with the frizzies. Would love to try this! But, I DO love my curly hair~!

  74. I have naturally straight hair and I love it. Sure I like curls sometimes, but my hair is so easy to take care of that it's worth the effort, gel and hairspray required to get it to curl when I want it that way. It's also the one thing I do spend money on - I keep my hair long and I've found that quality shampoo, conditioner, leave-in's etc... are essential to keeping it easy to manage, not frizzy and silky. When I take care of my hair I can shower, towel dry it, brush it out and put it in a ponytail when I'm in a hurry and get by just fine!

Oh so I guess this is another giveaway I don't need to win :) My sisters on the other hand do have curly hair - so I guess if I did win I could just re-gift the winnings!

  75. I am always on the look out for another great product for my biracial daughter's REALLY curly hair. Would love to try this out on her!

  76. I also have naturally curly hair. I love it and hate it too. I love that I can just shower, throw some mouse in it and go, but there are times I get tired of feeling like I have a "fro" and spend forever straightening it every day. I usually end up doing it curly half of the week, and straightening it the other half. At least I can change it up though!
Something to help tame my curls a bit would be nice!

  77. I have hair that is indifferently curly...meaning that parts of it are curly and parts of it aren't, and those parts seem to decide on a day-to-day basis exactly what they want to do with themselves. When my hair is long, I can generally tame it into a certain semblance of regularity; unfortunately it is a bit too short to be particularly attractive in any state other than a blow-dried-straight one...which is fine on some days, but on other days profoundly not so. I would be interested to see what a product such as this one would do for/to my hair...if it could convince the one consistently straight clump of hair on the left side of my head that it would like to curl, I would pay a great deal of money for it!

  78. Wow! I'd love to try this. I have really curly hair also, and I'm fiercely protective of who cuts it since I've had some baaaaad cuts. As all my friends will confirm.
