Defeat disease by diapering YOUR baby (brought to you by Pampers)

I have a lot of friends who I greatly admire that have chosen to use cloth diapers. People like Sandy. And Steph. And many, many others.

Someday we may "convert" to the cloth diapering movement, but - for now - we're using disposables with our 1-month-old (our older daughter has been potty trained and out of diapers since her 2nd birthday).

pampers-swaddersOur favorite brand of disposable diapers is Pampers (especially the Swaddlers - pictured right).

I like Pampers diapers because they are soft and flexible and hold in leaks.

I like Pampers - as a brand - because they are committed to making the world a better place.

In case you haven't heard, Pampers is currently spearheading a campaign to help eradicate tetanus in undeveloped countries...

pampers_logoWHAT IT IS: The "One Pack = One Vaccine" campaign is a global initiative with UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT), a preventable disease that claims the lives of approximately 128,000 infants and up to 30,000 mothers in less industrialized nations each year - that's approximately one newborn death every four minutes.

FIND OUT MORE: Nightline aired a segment on the campaign in early February and it's quite moving. One especially sweet moment in the clip is when Salma Hayek breastfeeds an African baby to show the mothers in that culture that breastfeeding is safe and beneficial for babies.

pampers unicef campaignBE A PART OF IT: From February 5 through May 1, 2009, parents in the U.S. and Canada have the opportunity to help UNICEF protect moms and babies around the world against tetanus, by simply purchasing specially-marked packages of Pampers diapers and wipes. Each product purchased triggers one life-saving vaccine. Just look for the UNICEF logo on the packaging when you shop.

YOUR TURN: Do you use cloth or disposable diapers? Why or why not? What is your favorite brand of diapers?

WIN IT! There will be four winners. Each winner will receive a coupon for a free JUMBO pack of Pampers (in the size of his/her choice) and a Pampers baby onesie that says "Together We Can Save A Life." To enter, leave any topic-related comment on this post prior to Tuesday, April 28 at midnight (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.).

*UPDATE* The winners are #115 Lisa, #42 Sonya Sparks, #138 Aniela R, and #63 Jennifer W.

  1. I use disposable diapers (love the convenience) and cloth wipes. My fav brands are sam's club brand and target brand. Since sam's club diapers now cost $10 more per box I stick with target's brand since it's the cheapest.

  2. we use disposable due to daycare and being on the go...I too like pampers the best, but wish they were a bit more affordable,
    thanks for the contest

  3. I think it's fantastic that buy their products give 1 child a vacine.
Tetnaus is a very slow & painful death & thank God they are dontating the meds to help save these children!

  4. I use cloth diapers to try and be greener. I got a a lot of good tips on using them from my mother, who used only cloth diapers on me.

  5. I used Pampers for both of my kids and have been very happy. The campaign to help the people in Africa is so amazing and I am a big fan

  6. We use disposable because they are easier. We buy Pampers we've tried cheaper brands but they always leak. Thanks :)

  7. I think its so great that pampers is helping children get the vaccines that they need.
So many children would go without these vital vaccines.

    Thank you

  8. we use disposable diapers because it's easier than cloth diapers. i tend to prefer pampers with huggies coming in a close second.

  9. I have always used pampers. They fit my kids right. My son had lots of allergies and the others would break him out. I always recommend pampers if anyone asks me what is best

    thanks

  10. We use disposable for convenience. Generally I buy Luvs because they've worked for my kids and are on the less expensive side, but we get the occasional Pampers too.

  11. Pampers have always been a favorite of mine. My three year old was trained at 2 and now we are having a little boy next month. Could sure use this. Thanks

  12. I really should use cloth, but I just feel like I don't have the time (I know, I know, I should make the time). I try to be green in a lot of other ways though. I am glad that Pampers is taking an active role in making children's lives better. That is awesome.

  13. [email protected]
It is so hard for me to keep up with the diapers I have to buy. I am a grandmother on a fixed income trying to raise two small girls ages 1 and 4. Thank goodness the 4 year old only wears pull ups at night and only soils them occaisionally. But the Doctor says to wait another 6 months before we start potty training for the youngest babe. He recommends 18 months to 3 years.

  14. I use disposable diapers, cloth diapers take too much time to wash! I prefer Pampers because they are softer.

  15. I am another huge fan of Pampers and I have always used them on all three of my sons. Thanks for a great giveaway :)

  16. I used both. I prefered cloth and once I really got going, that's all I used. Fuzzi bunz is the brand that I loved best :) MY sister has a 3 month old and she is cloth diapering him and as far as I recall, using bum genius. My mom watches him during the days while she and her husband work and I know she's using pampers at her house so I'd love to win this prize for Nana's place!

  17. I love that Pampers is a part of this great campaign. We use disposable diapers mainly because I don't have the time to do all that is needed to take care of cloth diapers.

  18. We use disposable diapers. There is no way my husband would have ever let my use cloth. We are on the go a lot and it wouldn't have been very convienent. I use Luvs mostly because they work well and are cheaper than the name brand.

  19. I use disposable... working full time and taking care of three kids is plenty to worry about without adding the cloth diaper challenge with it. However, my little sister is due in September, and she is going to use cloth, I can't wait to see how long that will last with her.

  20. Tetanus is very dangerous and I'm glad that Pampers started this campaign. I'll only use the diapers with the UNICEF stamp!

  21. I love this intiative that Pampers has taken with Unicef to provide tetanus vaccines to mothers and children in need. I have been purchasing Pampers for my son since he was born. He is now 6 months. I am glad I am able to contribute to this cause by simply buying the marked packages of Pampers. We have gone through probably 15 or more packages of Pampers. It is great to know that each one has saved a life. Thanks for the chance to win this giveaway and provide another vaccine to someone in need.

  22. I wish I used cloth diapers but I use disposables. Cloth diapers seem like a hassle even though it's more environmentally-friendly. Well, at least I'm saving water vs landfill space.

I like Pamper Swaddlers, they seem to run smaller than other brands but it's much better than Huggies.

  23. I use a combination of cloth and disposable. I use the cloth around the house and the disposable at night, naptime or when I go somewhere. I use Huggies, Pampers or Luvs. It depends on what the sale and coupons are.

  24. I would love this for my bestfriend Marta!
With a 9 month old, and another on the way.
    She could really use this!

  25. When I had my kids I used cloth diapers for my daughter because she was so allergic to everything. But, things have changed so much and our first grandchild will be born any day now and they will start out using disposable diapers.

  26. I use disposable diapers and although my favorite brand to date has been Huggies, I was very impressed with the Pampers diapers that I used while in the hospital with my daughter. On my last trip to the store, I actually purchased a specially marked box of Pampers in order to help support this wonderful cause. I am very grateful that Pampers is making a difference in this world and I like knowing that by supporting their products, I helped provide a vaccine! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  27. I use disposable...cloth seems kinda icky to me! Well, I tried every brand out there and we only use pampers! They are the best, they don't stick to his sweet little hiney!

  28. We only use pampers in our home. I have thought of going with disposable...esp since we have two laid-off adults in the home now. But pampers is really the greatest brand...plus you get the points that leat to fun stuff!

  29. I use disposable diapers for my 1 month old twin boys. I thought about doing the cloth diapering, but decided it just wasn't for me. Not green, I know, but I just couldn't add the work of keeping cloth clean and at the ready. Pampers Swaddlers is our brand, though, and I feel good about the vaccine donation they make each box (and I go through a LOT). Thank you!

  30. We use disposable diapers and Pampers is our brand. I've tried others but either they did not provide enough leak coverage or my son brokw out in a rash with other brands so it's pampers for us.

  31. I used disposables with my children, just so much easier. My daughter is now pregnant and I have recommended she use pampers.

  32. way to go Pampers! i did see this advertised in the local flyers for the grocery store. we use disposables mostly because there is no way my husband would ever go for cloth. we've settled on the "Teddy's Choice" brand. I generic kind from one of the big grocery stores around here. You just can't beat the cost effectiveness of these diapers and the comparable quality from size 3 and up (i tend to use the name brands for the smaller sizes-it's just not the same).

  33. Disposables...I have an 8 month old and we've tryed LUVS and store brands to try and save $$. (single 23yr old mom =D ) But I just couldn't handle all the accidents and discomfort I thought I was causing! So Pampers is my only shoice. Huggies seem so stiff to me.

If I had different living arrangement I would try cloth. It is disheartining to think about all the waste dirty diapers produce... As she get older I might try supplementing with them.

  34. We use disposables because they are easy and convenient. With four children, a husband, grad school, and writing, who has time for cloth? I, like you, however, appreciate those who do use cloth. Pampers are the only brand we use (trial and error brought us that point).

  35. we have always used disposable, but with this new baby we're going to try cloth, at least for those days we're home all day. but we'll use some disposables when we go out. I'm hoping to reduce landfill waste and save money. I hope I like using them :)

  36. I love Pampers too they are the best but pricey. My baby's never got diapers rashes until I switched them from pampers to a cheaper brand so I love pampers. I love how they will send you e-mails personalized to each of your kids stages and development. Not to mention the points you get to redeem towards things. I didn't know about this whole new thing with vaccines. Too bad they aren't more affordable though.

  37. This would be a great win for my granddaughter. We use disposible, they are more conveniant even though they are not good for the earth.
    Thanx for this contest!!

  38. I have always used Pampers and love their new campaign encouraging vaccines. Even if I have to use disposable diapers, at least some good can come out of it.

  39. I tried cloth and it really didn't work for us so now I only use disposable. I feel guilty about it but I just can't stand the extra bulk of cloth and how hard it is to get pants that fit! And yes, I tried the "just like disposable" all in one cloth diapers.

  40. Great giveaway but for some reason my son was allergic to Pampers, except for the swaddlers -- but my best friends son can only use pampers -- it's weird how every baby is different!

    autumn398 (at) yahoo.com

  41. I've diapered alot of babies (my kids and their kids, sometimes friends' kids) and Pampers have always been my favorite. Please count me in. Thanks!!

  42. I use disposable diapers because that is what I was brought up with and that's what I'm familiar with. Thanks for the chance.

  43. We use disposables at our house. I have 2 in diapers and cloth diapering while a great way to "go green" is not in the cards for us! We use Pampers Cruisers on both of our little ones. They are 22 mos and 7 mos old. I have tried other brands and none compare to the Cruisers!

  44. I use disposable diapers because I think they keep the bay dryer. I prefer Pampers brand and haven't used anything else.

  45. I used disposable diapers when my children were babies. I have always preferred Pampers brand- they leak less than the others plus I like their vaccine program now. I still use disposable diapers when I get to babysit my grandchildren and I am recommending Pampers brand to my daughter who is expecting her first child in July.

  46. We use cloth during the day and disposable at night. I like bum genius diapers for cloth and pampers at night.

  47. Love pampers, they really are better - both the fit and keeping baby skin dry and healthy. And what a great cause they are supporting!

  48. Since we never had any luck with any brand diapers from nighttime leakage, we use one size bigger (preferably nighttime ones).

  49. When my children were babies, I used cloth diapers, but now we are looking at the bottoms of grandchildren and their parents use disposables. Largely because of the requirements for daycare. Favorite brands are either Pampers or Huggies, with the choice of which one at any particular time depending on whatever coupons are available.

  50. All these products sound really awesome. We are expecting in 5 months and have heard great things about Pampers. thanks for the giveaway.

  51. When my son was a baby I used cloth diapers, but he developed terrible diaper rashes. When I switched to disposables, the rashes disappeared. These would go to my friend who is expecting a grandchild. Thanks!

  52. I always used disposable diapers because of the convenience. It also reduced the chance of diaper rash. I would use whatever I had a coupon for...Pampers, Luvs, Huggies.

  53. We cloth diaper by day and use disposables by night. I love the Pampers Swaddlers for the new baby and will keep using them at night until she no longer fits them. I think it's great that they are using their profits to save lives. Way to go Pampers!

  54. I look forward to the day when Disposable Diapers are recycled. My family uses disposables because we found out that using cloth diapers has little, if any impact on reducing our carbon footprint

  55. I used Pampers on my kids, now my daughter is having a baby of her own. Pampers have been around for a long time & have improved so that there are no leaks. They are easy & convient. What a great product. cin1bar2(at)hotmail(dot)com

  56. Kids are potty trained - thank goodness since they are 15 and 16 now! :) We always used Pampers. Hats off to them for their "Defeat Disease" campaign.

  57. My kids are both potty trained now, but we were a Pampers family when they were infants. It seemed like every time they wore huggies they would explode all over the place, but Pampers really kept it all contained. As they got older we found that the Kirkland Signature diapers worked as well as Pampers, and were much cheaper. If I win, I will be passing the diapers off to a neighbor who is getting ready to pop!

  58. we used cloth with my second child 16 years ago. it was so much work and because we used a service to launder and replenish, it was very costly. I went back to Pampers with my youngest and I swear by them for my grand baby.

  59. We are using cloth and disposables this would be great to win with money so tight thank you for entering us !

  60. I like pampers disposable diapers and wipes.. they clean up easily. Although, cloth would be much better for the environment. If only we could recycle diapers?

  61. Pampers have always been our fav too! Love their vaccine campaign and the pampers points program (almost ready to cash mine in).

  62. I love pampers. It's the only diaper I use and I use a lot of them! I like the idea of cloth diapers but it's just not practical for my family. I think the vaccine campaign is a wonderful contribution and makes me feel good that although I can't use cloth diapers myself, I am still contributing to a good cause.

  63. I used pampers years ago on my son and now he is using them on his daughter. Diapers have come a long way since I used them but pampers seems to be the best. It's great the way they are helping others.

  64. I'm a cloth diapering momma here, but my sister doesn't know if that will be the way she goes or not. I would love to give this to her! Diapers are so expensive it's always nice to get a break here or there.

    mommainflipflops AT gmail.com

  65. We organic cloth diaper/wipe and love it - it's easier, smells far better (can't stand the smell of poop in plastic dipes -ewww!), better for the environment, and most importantly best for the health and development of our baby! BUT we have recently starting ECing and it's amazing!!! I truly think diaper free is the way to go! Please don't include me in the giveaway as I don't have any friends that use disposables - tu so much though!

  66. I have decided to use disposables with my little one due in a few months. I had not heard this information about the vaccination campaign run through Pampers, and it leaves me with a really good impression of the company!

  67. I think this is a really good cause. If buying something can save a life I think we all should buy one or more.

  68. As we prepare for our first little one, we've got quite a variey of diapers, but none of them have been used yet. I've got some cloth prefolds and covers, bumgenius, fuzzibunz, and then several packs of 7th generation disposables as well as some random brands I got at my shower!

  69. I dont do cloth diapers right now because I am lazy, i keep meaning to jump into it though. My fav brand is huggies at the moment.

  70. I use disposable diapers because they are easier and more convenient, but I have been trying to switch over to cloth diapers because I know they are better for the environment.

  71. My kids have finally all gotten past the diaper stage, but this would be wonderful to be able to give to my neighbor. I know she could really use them. I loved Pampers when my kids were in diapers, although they were a little more expensive.

  72. I definitely admire those who go the cloth diaper route! Kudos to them! I haven't and we've used Pampers all the way! Love em!

  73. Awesome site! also i would love to win this I know a family that is very in need and going through a financial crisis! it would be a blessing to be able to give this to them! its all the small things that help

  74. I'm impressed by all the cloth-diaper mamas on here! We too use Bum Genius and L.O.V.E. them! I'm so glad we decided to go this route -- even my hubby, who was not so on board from the begining -- loves them and has started advocating them to his friends.

My daughter is in day care (a center, not in home) and while she's the first cloth baby they've had, they said they'd give it a go and its worked wonderfully. In fact, I think I've converted several of her teachers! I really don't think its any less convenient; we don't even use disposables when we travel. We use cloth wipes too because it was just easier than than walkign around with a poopy wipe looking for a trash can than sticking the cloth one inside the diaper and being done with it.

If I were to win the give away though, I have a friend who is expecting twins in a couple weeks who does not plan to CD and they would be a great gift for her!

  75. I have heard so many wonderful things about the Swaddlers. When our baby is born I plan on using those.

  76. I use disposable diapers..thought a lot about using cloth , but never did. Even though I liked pampers,to save money I used generics.

  77. YOUR TURN: Do you use cloth or disposable diapers? Why or why not? What is your favorite brand of diapers?

We use disposables. Why? Convenience, and not having to deal with washing and drying dirty diapers. We love Pampers, and any type we have a coupon for. Thanks for the chance to win. Your daughter looks like Brad Pitt's daughter. :)

  78. We used disposables 4 all our kids. Expecting another in 7 mo. I really could use this, would love 2 win.

  79. Honestly, I tried to cloth diaper, but my stomach can't handle it. I totally think that cloth is the best, and most economical, but I can't do it.
Thanks for the giveaway and chance to win!

  80. We use Seventh Gen. I would use Cloth Diapers if our lifestyle allowed it. I like diapers that are eco-friendly and chlorine free because my son has always been really sensitive...

  81. I am a disposable girl, I can't bring myself to go cloth, as I usually have had two in diapers. That many diapers to launder on top of the crazy mounds of laundry that I have already, yuck!

  82. We use disposables, I keep thinking about cloth diapering, but I do work from home in addition to being a wife and a mommy and I just can't bring myself to commit to the extra loads of laundry. We usually use Huggies, but I love the Pampers promotion. That is an awesome thing to do!

  83. I've used cloth diapers and still own some just in case I need them, but I definitely prefer disposable for a variety of reasons. I think both options are very much valid, both have their good and bad points for me personally and for the world in general, in my opinion. :)

I think the vaccine promotion is great--way to go, Pampers!

  84. We're both cloth-diapering and using disposables these days. I find that it's nice to have both options, and I do like Pampers for when we are traveling or battling a persistent diaper rash. They are so soft for newborn skin. I would love to see Pampers continue to reduce the plastics in there, or maybe even come up with a greener, biodegradable version.

  85. I buy pampers if I am shopping at Walmart, but I usually end up going to Costco for diapers and they don't carry pampers at this time. I also love the 1 pack = 1 vaccine promotion. The world could use more companies like this. Thanks so much for reviewing!

  86. Another reason to love Pampers...their Gifts to Grow points. Do you ever use these? Simply peel the code found on the inside of each package of diapers (codes can also be found on wipes) and enter it on their website. They have all sorts of rewards you can get for free but my favorite are the Shutterfly gift certificates.

When baby #2 arrives we will really be racking up the points. Although #1 is SUPER close to being fully potty-trained. Crossing fingers and toes.

  87. I use disposable diapers. I never tried cloth diapers. Disposable just works well for me. I use Pampers Cruisers on my little girl and love them!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  88. I've done cloth and disposables both. I truly do love cloth diapering... but not with three kids and all the laundry that goes along with it. I can hardly keep up with the regular laundry. I had every intention of cloth diapering our 3rd, but I just can't work myself up to it yet.

For disposables, we like Luvs. I prefer the plain look compared to the more expensive brands, and they work *really* well for us. And the price is good, too!

For cloth diapers, I absolutely love the Bum Genius 3.0 - one size fits all! It's awesome and easy to use!

  89. I have really tried the cloth diapering thing but after I was done breastfeeding it was just too much - especially with daycare. I admire anyone who wants to cloth diaper but me personally I have just given up. With Mikayla I used generic diapers and they worked GREAT. Lily has an extra long butt crack (it is pretty darn cute though) so she gets huggies - they are the only ones that keep everything in the diaper.

  90. Oops!
....and I even love the quality! We use some old hand-me-down clothes when I feel inspired. I hate to admit that I'm not yet completely converted. Maybe one day. At least, that's what I tell myself :)

  91. My favorite brand is the least expensive one that will do the job! Ha!

But usually we get Huggies or Pampers (though I'm not a fan of Pampers' scented diapers).

  92. I am entering this Giveaway for a young lady who is having a baby and is having a hard time with finances, so I will tell you what I did with my 2 daughters!
I used disposable diapers, Mostly Pampers and I cut coupons! I used them because they were convenient! That was 18 and 22 years ago!

I do want to Commend Pampers on their HUGE Effort to Vaccinate Children World Wide! This is so important and Pampers has really stepped up to the Plate and taken the initiative and shown what it is like to be a LEADER! Disease kills, VACCINES do save lives!!!
    Thank you Pampers!!!
    Leslie

  93. Thanks for the giveaway! When I had my kid's in diapers I have to admit that I looked at price or coupons the majority of time. I did like the Pampers in that they seemed to 'fit' better the the others.

If I were to win, I'd like to give this to my sister in law who just had a baby on Good Friday! They are considering doing the cloth diaper thing, but I know that having disposibles around is really helpful too. I know she would be tickled!

  94. I considered switching to cloth for our second baby, but we adopted him right after we moved from one state to another, and I just didn't have time to do the research.

Pampers Swaddlers are the only diapers I'll use on my newborns. I think they fit so much better than other brands.

  95. I used disposables with my first child, and cloth with my second. Out of all the disposables I used, Pampers were definitely the best, but for me, cloth is best. I'd never go back to disposables!

  96. We do both. I'm not on the full time cloth diapering train yet, but maybe will be when he is eating solids. I think Pampers are the best diaper... far better than huggies.

  97. As far as disposables go, Pampers get my stamp of approval. But we use cloth. I have bumGenius and haute pockets and seriously couldn't be happier. I feel great about putting them on his little bottom, great about not filling landfills with disposables, great about saving water (yes! even washing cloth diapers uses less water than producing disposables), great about saving money over the years as we'll use them on subsequent kiddoes, and they are so darn cute!

  98. I use disposables ... cloth would be an option if daycare would do them, but once you add up all the hours we're not at home, there isn't enough time we could use cloth to make it worth the investment. Huggies or Pampers ... whichever one is on sale.
