Fit Mama Friday: My First Shades

Fit Mama Friday: My First Shades 1My husband and I run together 3-4 times a week. We take our 18-month-old daughter along in a jogging stroller and, for the most part, she enjoys our 30-minute runs. She loves the sound of our feet pounding the cement, the rhythm of our voices as we talk, the dogs barking, and the wind blowing. At least, I imagine that she does - she can't quite tell us all of that yet.

Because we "brave the elements" outside so often, we want to be sure that we are protecting our daughter from the sun and wind efficiently.

One way we do this is by having our Little Beauty wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection (well, when she will keep them on, that is).

MyFirstShades offers sunglasses for little ones from newborn to age 7. All of their glasses feature 100% UV protection, impact resistant lenses, and a wrap style design. Plus, they're waterproof and Rx capable (a vision care professional can fit all styles of MyFirstShades™ sunglasses with prescription lenses).

MyFirstShades™ reports that, "Research today confirms that sun damage to our eyes occurs at an early age - damage that may not show up until we are much older." They go on to say that, "According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants and children under ten years of age, may be at increased risk for retinal injury because their eyes, specifically the lenses, are not fully developed and allow for greater penetration of harmful UV rays."

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also declares that sunglasses should be worn whenever a child is in the sun long enough to get a sunburn or tan.

MyFirstShades™ is launching a new website on March 19th, 2008. You will be able to buy shades on-line and also search for a retailer near you. Stay tuned!

Fit Mama Friday: My First Shades 2Fit Mama Friday: My First Shades 3WIN IT! One mama will win a pair of MyFirstShades™ - either the pink pair or the red pair (pictured). 1. Taking care of your eyes and your children's eyes is very important. My 18 mo. girl has to wear glasses and I always tell parents to protect those babies eyes. The glasses featured are so stylish, it would be a nice change for my beautiful baby girl.

  2. These sunglasses look great. Every day I look into a pair of beautiful brown eyes (my two y/o son) and a pair of beautiful blue eyes (my three y/o son) and it is very important to me to protect those eyes. I was glad to learn about these glasses and would love to have them.

  3. Why hasn't anyone else thought of these before? I would love to have a pair for my daughter as she usually spends more time playing with her sunglasses then wearing them. The strap would probably help her to keep them on and prevent them from slipping.

  4. OMG these are adorable! I've seen similar ones, but have never found a pair that I would buy....cuteness factor wasn't good enough! I know, shallow, but I've been trying to find a pair that would go with my daughter's clothes. LOL I figure if she's going to wear them all the time (it's very sunny where I live) then they better match! hahaha Count me in on this one! Pink Please!

  5. My niece would look so cute in the pink pair of shades. Living in Texas we have sunshine almost all year round so these should be very useful!
    Thanks so much!

  6. We're going to the beach for the first time this summer with my daughter who will just be 1 yr old. She would look so hip in these sunglasses!

  7. What a great product - the little sunglasses you see at other stores just don't stay on my lil man's face. These not only look great but would stay put - and protect his precious baby blues! Jodi - [email protected]

  8. I have the hardest time keeping sunglasses on my daughter. I think she'd really enjoy those red or pink ones, though!

  9. With blue eyes, I hardly ever leave the house without sunglasses, but I hardly ever have them for the kids because they lose them! This would be a good pair for the little one.

  10. I love the pink one for my youngest, they look like they would not rub behind the ears, that drives her crazy

  11. I have never seen or heard of these awesome sunglasses! I am mother of three adults and grandmother of eighteen (infant to 28). Hope to win them for my granddaughter, Elizabeth.

  12. My tots need ones like these that will stay on their heads when they play! And theyre so cute at that too!

  13. I got the baby sunglasses from Target, but the strap is still to big for my 6 month old. This strap looks like it would work better for different size heads.

  14. Love those shades in pink for my one year old granddaughter! She'll be "on the go" this summer because she's ready to walk, so the sunny outdoors will be her best friend!
ps: Stephanie....adorable new picture of you and your little girl!

  15. These are great. Perfect for my one year old who won't leave anything on his head....hat, sunglasses. These look like they would actually stay put and protect his little eyes! I'd love to put them to the test!

  19. This will be Josiah's first summer at the camp where my husband and I work. We'll be sure to be spending lots of time outside, and sunnies will be great to help him have fun in the sun!

  20. This is a great idea for sunglasses on children. I know that I tried to keep glasses on my children and they wouldn't stay. Now I can be assured that my grandchildren's eyes are protected.

  21. I'm a sunglasses junkie. The sun hurts my eyes even in winter. It would have to hurt babies eyes also. These would be great. Thanks for the giveaway.

  22. I've been on the lookout for some sunglasses for my boys with summer coming soon, this would be perfect.

  23. My little boy has beautiful light blue eyes that are so sensitive to the sun. Thanks for the great giveaway. If we're lucky enough to win, I'd love the red pair. Thanks txterri/at/aol/dot/com

  24. My daughter truly dislikes the sun being in her eyes. Sun shades can only cover so much area in the car and when we are walking in the park there is little protection with the canopy on the stroller. She loves to be outdoors so this sounds like the perfect solution.

  26. These would be a great idea for my little one this summer. We do a lot of camping and a lot of that time is spent at the lake or ocean.

  27. I have sensitive eyes, so I wear sunglasses nearly every time I'm outside. I try to do the same with my daughter, but the cheapo pair I bought her last summer don't fit her very well. I'd love to win these for her.

By the way, love the new photo of you and your little girl. Very cute, both of you.

  28. My little guy would love a pair so he can be cool like his big brother.

Thanks for the opportunity to win them.

  29. I had not heard of this research before today. Thank you so much for the information. I will definitely look into getting Brea some before this summer. I love going to outside activities. Thanks so much for the information.

  30. my oldest is always bothered by the son and I end up letting him use my sunglasses, which results in a very bent and mangled pair! So , these would be very helpful for him!

    thanks!

  33. What a timely contest! I was just going through my son's summer stuff (swimming lessons start today!) and realized that his newborn sunglasses from last year no longer fit. Surprise, surprise! His old sunglasses also had a strap around the back which I loved so I'm glad to see MyFirstShades have the same.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  34. these would be so great for either my 2 or 4yo. it's so hard to keep sunglasses on them, but the wrap around will keep them on perfectly! please enter me, thanks!

  35. These are so adorable. It's so important to protect our little ones. Thank you for offering this giveaway.

  36. Once the weather clears up (I am sick of snow!), we will be going out a lot more and these would come in handy. We also spend a lot of time at the lake during the summers and my daughter will need some sunglasses to protect her eyes. Thanks!

  37. I would love to win these for my baby girl! Awesome giveaway! thanks for even alerting me to this product!

  38. We take for granted protection from the sun. What a great idea as well as practicle with the head strap. These could be fun with
    college logos for the future
    college grads!

  39. Both of my little ones could use these. I love the strap on the MyFirstShades, less of a chance of them falling off/or taking them off. Great product!

  40. Oh I would love a pair for my little girl! I actually made a pair for my daughter her first summer by sewing on a headband to a pair of sunglasses and taking off the earpieces.

  41. What a great idea and extremely useful. My dad has macular degeneration and wearing sunglasses at any age can help avoid or lessen the severity of it. Please enter me in your drawing for the red pair. Thanks very much.....Cindi

  42. These are really cute and useful too. I know my little boy would look so cute in the red pair. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  43. We just went to the pedi today and they were telling us its time to start sunscreen... so sunglasses make sense too!
