FitMama Friday: Jog Bra Reviews

FitMama Friday: Jog Bra Reviews 1As a mother, I feel like exercise is something that I can't afford not to do. Other things can be put off or delayed, but exercise improves my health, lowers my stress, and prevents too many diseases to name.

So, I'm training for a 5K. I've found that running is the ideal workout for me (and for many moms that I know) because it's free and it doesn't require driving. Today, I completed my first "endurance run" (40 minutes of intervals: 4 minutes running, 1 minute walking).

Starting today...every Friday, I'm going to review running gear or provide fitness tips or inspirational stories...because we, as mothers, need to support each other and encourage each other to get out there and be role models for our children.

I'll begin FitMama Friday by telling you my jog bra saga (it has a happy ending). If you are a C cup or larger, you know that finding a sports bra that is supportive can be a challenge to say the very least. The sports bra needs to fit right, minimize bounce, and be at least somewhat stylish. That's a high order.

When I bought my first "real" non-Target running bra, I went to a specialized running store to be fitted. The sales associate clucked around me like a mother hen - measuring, adjusting, ooh-ahhing. I finally settled on a nice bra - pricey at $44, but black and supportive with wide straps. I was running in that one. It seemed just fine.

Then, I found Enell, a sports bra "designed to enable larger breasted women to exercise and play sports in comfort." Mara Bronson, the Marketing Director for Enell, said that the enell bra works because it is "built with only top quality materials" and it has a "compression style design that holds breasts securely."

The Enell has a front hook and eye closure and a very tight fit. At first, I thought it was too small (but the website forewarned me that it might feel that way). Then, I ran in it and - wow - it is the best bra I have ever run in. Hands-down. This one wins.

Now, I only run in the Enell. The other one just doesn't compare.

Maybe that's why Oprah likes it. And that's why I like it and will buy another one, even though they are a bit spendy ($60 a pop). I like to think of my purchases in terms of ROI (return on investment). If I go jogging four times a week and wear the bra every single time all year long, then $60 doesn't seem that bad, after all.
