FOR BABY: ProGrade Complete Family Thermometer by Safety 1st

FOR BABY: ProGrade Complete Family Thermometer by Safety 1st 1With a wee one in the house, it's important to have an accurate, fast thermometer for those nights when fevers creep up.

We've had an inexpensive stick version for over five years and, although it works, it takes FOR-EVAH to get a reading. As you know, babies don't always stay still and toddlers get antsy quickly so I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review the ProGrade Complete Family Thermometer by Safety 1st, which boasts a 5-second reading time. We tried it last night and it really did read our temps in 5 seconds!

FOR BABY: ProGrade Complete Family Thermometer by Safety 1st 2The thermometer comes with three different attachments so that you can take temperatures orally, rectally, or under-the-arm (...why they included a rectal tip, I really don't know! That practice should be relegated to strange practices of the past...who does that?!?). It also features a nice large digital display screen, a "Clean Me" alert, and automatic shut-off.

Stick this in baby's stocking and the parents of said-baby will thank you. Products that are practical are often the very best.

  1. Awesome! I like that kind of gadget. Perfect for the family important matters. Especially for the kids to check them if they're fine. And also my husband loves it.

  2. I recently spent a lot of money on some thermometer and it broke within the first week. I would love to try this product. Based on the description here, it looks like a good product.

  3. Once I became a parent, that was one of the first items that I realized was an absolute necessity - a good quality thermometer. Thank you!

  4. WOW it looks great. It looks like you can read it at night without turning on the light. I bought one that didn't light up at night so I couldn't see it in the room with my kids.

  5. This would be great for squirmy and/or crying babies-my daughter will not sit still long enough to have her temp taken, so this sounds excellent, thanks!

  6. When my daughter was born back in February, I researched this kind of thermometer, but never ended up getting one. I would love to have something other than the rectal thermometer we current own since my three year old has certainly outgrown that :)

  7. Wow this is something we need my kids scream Bloody Murder when the thermometer comes out, they act like it hurt them.

  8. This would be great for my two girls. My youngest is always complaining that she's sick. This way I could get an accurate reading for the possible temp.

  9. I'm with you on the rectal temp taking but my dr. sometimes asks for it when my little boy's fever is really high. They call it the standard. Anyway, would love to have this for other options.

  10. I think it gets even worse when they're toddlers...so wiggly and squirmy! : ) You don't know how important a good thermometer is until you're up at 3 am with a sick baby/toddler!

  11. My son is two and the idea of him having a bad cold or the flu is something I'm not looking forward too, its something I can't make go away!

  12. I agree that the rectal thermometers should be a thing of the past.

A few weeks ago, I needed a thermometer. The one we have doesn't work because the 4 year old thinks it's a toy. No mater where I hid it she always seems to find it.

  13. I don't even have a thermometer in my house right now so it would be great if I was lucky enough to win this especially with cold and flu season coming up fast. It looks like such a good thermometer. This is a great giveaway and I really hope I win. Thanks.

  14. I think we've gone through a new thermometer every year for eight years. Crazy! I want one that lasts longer than that!

  15. I have a friend that just found out she's pregnant and this would be great to win for her, so she doesn't have to suffer like I have with temps for my girls.

  16. How great! I would love this for my son.

And I'm with you on the rectal temperature. I never once did it, and can't see why you would bother unless within a degree is really *that* important. I either go with "he has a fever" or "he doesn't" so there is no need!

  17. This would be wonderful to win! We have the themometer that the hospital gave us when the kids were born, but they take forever! I had an ear one but it was a cheaper one and promptly broke!

  18. I know I could use this for my family, but I so wish they would have included an atachment for checking the temp via the ear.

  19. I too will be needing an upgrade on the thermometer front as I've been using the rectal one up till this point. With my son now 18 months, I'm not sure how much longer this will last. This is a great gift that really anyone in the family can use.

  20. I used the rectal thermometer through my daughter's first 18 months and she didn't mind at all. Now she's almost 2 and things are very different, so I'm definitely in the market for a thermometer upgrade!

  21. I need one of these. I still use the old fashioned manual thermometer, the ones that look like a stick. I suppose it's about time I go digital.

  22. I am never able to get any thermometer to work. Within 2 reads it can say 97.9 and 107. I go through thermometers like toilet paper, but I haven't tried this one yet.

  23. i would love this my kids get sick alot with fever and ear infections so this would be awesome to have around the house

  24. I am with you I have never taken a temp rectally and I never will. I did have a doctor ask me to once when I called in the middle of the night about a fever but I declined.

  25. WOW!! I have never heard of this! I think this would be so beneficial and useful! I would love to win this...with 3 (almost 4) kids in the house, this thermometer would be so functional!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  26. I would love to have a thermometer that is big enough not to get lost and a 5 second reading would be amazing with a sick cranky child.

  27. I can't even imagine how nice it would be to have a thermometer that could read in 5 seconds!! Thanks for a great giveaway!

  28. My doctor always insists on a rectal temp but I hate waiting for the reading with a screaming wiggly baby, so we have 2 themometers for each kid, one rectal one oral. I would love to have 1 themometer with interchangable tips that actually gets a quick reading.

  29. I've been using an old fashioned rectal thermometer for so long the kids might go into shock if I show up with a new one. I think it's worth the chance. Sure hope I win this (and so do the kids).

  30. I would love this for my granddaughter, she has had some febrile siezures and her temperature has to be watched very closely!

  31. Only 5 seconds? I'm sold!LOL! It's so hard to take the temp of my wiggly little man! Thanks for introducing me to such a versatile thermometer!

  32. We could REALLY use this thermometer! It seems like my kids are always sick this winter. I think it's partly because my son is in kindergarten now, so we're exposed to so many more germs.

  33. Wow, this sounds like one of those 'must haves' for new mommies. Sign me up! I'm sure all the thermometers I've been looking at work (as you found with your stick thermometer), but it's the little things that make your life a bit easier that are sometimes so very appreciated. Thanks for the giveaway.

  34. What an awesome giveaway! We need a new one badly. We have one of the old fashioned stick style ones but I am convinced it doesn't really work.

  35. We really need this. I have bought severl thermometers and they quit working after a few uses. They weren't cheap either, I'm not sure what the problem is. This would come in great use here, unfortunately this year we've been hit hard (like many) with sickness.

  36. I totally agree with the rectal thermometer ban!! Geez...I could never do it. This thermometer looks so awesome and the speediness of obtaining the temperature is exactly what I need with an active toddler who hates to have her temperature taken. m_huston(at)hotmail(dot)com

  37. I am one of the few who does still take a rectal temperature (on my 1 year old). Both of my kids freaked out at the Dr's office when they take their temp under their arm! Now my 4 year old will hold the thermometer in his mouth well enough, but he hates how long it takes. I guess I've done it the "old fashioned way" for so long because it gave me the most accurate reading.....I'm ready for a new way of life :)

  38. Oh, I need this for baby #3! We got a temporal artery thermometer for the last two, and it can be wildly divergent in it's temps. One time I get 98 degrees, the next 102! I need one that's fast, able to be used in a variety of ways, and consistently accurate. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  39. oh, wow, 5 seconds sounds heavenly! We just had a new baby and when I pulled out all the baby stuff, i saw our trusty old thermometer that takes what seems like an hour to get a reading. SO frustrating! It would be wonderful to have one like this.

  40. The inexpensive digital rectal thermometer worked great for my daughter when she was small. But now she's strong and VERY wiggly. We had to take her temp last week, and it took both me and my husband holding her down and trying to calm her. It was NOT a pleasant experience. We'd love a new method.

  41. I have to agree that I hate doing temps rectally I always go that route if my dd seems too warm or if the first reading is high or questionable. For example my little one went up to 103 one evening in that situation I would not have trusted an underarm because accuracy is essential. As a nurse I can honestly say that no one should rely on an ear thermometer as their main method. I have seen trained staff obtain readings of 97 or 96 on patients who have a fever of 102. We usually try the under the arm technique to begin with and go from there.
This sounds like a great thermometer and would absolutely love to win it. Thanks for the opportunity.

  42. A rectal temperature is the most accurate way of obtaining someone's core temperature. An axillary (underarm) temperature can be inaccurate if a person has not had their arms close to their body. An oral temperature can be high or low if a person has had hot or cold food or drink within the last fifteen minutes. So, while in most cases an oral or axillary temperature will suffice, there are some cases when a rectal temperature is the only way to go.

That being said, I would LOVE one of these thermometers.

  43. We have tried so many thermometers and they never last, well except one...you know..THAT one. It would be nice to win this! I know my little ones would love it. ;)

  44. Wow! They covered all the bases with this thermometer! I'm always forgetting what temp is correct for each location, so this would be great. Thanks!

  45. Wow - this sounds great! Our current thermometer works okay, yet when your kid doesn't feel good the last thing they want to do is sit around with a thermometer in their mouth waiting for a reading! This sounds wonderful!
Great giveaway - thanks for offering!

  46. goodness. . . i've struggled with digital thermometers. it would be wonderful to have one that works as it should: quickly and accurately. thanks for including me in your drawing. MKW

  47. It's so difficult to locate a thermometer that actually gives accurate readings! I can't tell you how many I've gone through. I would love to try this one out :)

  48. My kids just had fevers and I thought, geez, do i miss my old mercury glass thermometer. This little hospital given thingy doesn't give good reliable readings. But alas, a nice new one sounds wonderful.

  49. I'm not happy to say that I've had to do the rectal thing before with Blondie (when she was a baby), but doctors still say it's the most accurate place to get a reading with a baby and I needed to do it. I hate it, though, and plan to never do it again. :) But I'd still love to win!

  50. i know what you mean about ansy, squirmy babies who will not sit still for a temperature reading! i've tried my hardest to take my daughter's temperature three times this afternoon and this contraption sure seems like it would make everything easier!
