Get Fit...with Dance Praise

Get Fit...with Dance Praise 1You've heard of Dance Dance Revolution, right? I love that game. Perhaps because I used to be a bit of a dancer back in the day. I took ballet for quite a few years (and even did the whole bloody-toes on pointe shoes thing...). In high school, I performed as one of the lead dancers in "Oklahoma," "My Fair Lady," and "Guys & Dolls." See? You learn something new about me all of the time...

Anyway, DDR is fun...BUT I'm not a big fan of the music and the scantily-clad dancers in the background (one of the reasons we don't have it in our home).

Well, I recently discovered that there is another option. Dance Praise by Digital Praise is a DDR-style game with inspirational music and a positive backdrop. It's pretty much the exact same game, but with a more family-friendly make-up.

You can choose between 52 songs and several different modes (Dance, Exercise, Arcade, etc.). There's even an extra-slow mode for young kids. It's a nice way for moms to squeeze in a little extra fitness while having fun at the same time!

You don't even need a gaming system to play. You just hook it up to your computer and start dancing. That is a positive thing for people who don't have a PS3, XBox, or Wii...but it's not such a good thing for people who do have those gaming systems. Hopefully, Digital Praise will expand their offerings to those other markets in the future.

Get Fit...with Dance Praise 2My biggest critique of the game is that I wish it were more "competitive"...like a game. I'd like to be able to advance from level to level as I increase my dancin' skillz. And it would be fun to switch back-and-forth from player-to-player in tournament fashion.

Actually, maybe that wouldn't be such a good thing because Tim can seriously bust some moves on that dance pad.

  1. I like how you can hook it up to your computer and start dancing so you don't need to have a gaming console to use it.

  2. I love the fact that this is family friendly and also that it has an extra slow mode for my little one. I know my family would enjoy this.

  3. My kids have been wanting this so i'd love to win! My husband is looking for ways to lose weight so I think this would be perfect for everyone :)

  4. this looks fun i hate exercising but this looks like the way to do it.i made a new years resolution to lose 20 lbs and this would be the way to go :)

  5. My whole family would love this, I can picture my daughter trying to do it lol! It would be so fun!
    Thanks for the chance!

  6. This would be nice to have to do do aerobics. I currently ride a stationary bike mostly for aerobics. It would be a change of pace

  7. I have been wanting something like this for my excercise routine..but yes I was apprehensive about DDR as well due to us having small children, this would be perfect for our family!!

  8. this is brilliant! my 2yo is pretty enamored with the other similarly styled dance pad games, but i am SO INTENTIONAL about what kind of music she's exposed to! this is the perfect solution! i love the idea of having so much fun, getting some exercise together and praising God too!!

  9. This is AWESOME! I've been waiting for something like this! Thank you for sharing something I've been looking for for a long time! I also like that you don't have to have a specific game system to play!

  10. I love the Dance Dance Revolution game. I do not own one but have played at friends house. I also love Praise music so this would be perfect for me since I don't have a game console. What an awesome game!

  11. Thanks for the review, I'd never heard of that game/company. We don't have any of the gaming machines, I'm scared that once we get one, it's all we'll do (or my husband will do). I should have a bit more faith, but I also hear of friends dinner parties that turn into Wii contests. I'm not ready. But this sounds like a good system to test the waters!

  12. I have to say, I've never played any of the DDR games, but would be willing to give this game a try. Honestly though, I never even heard of this game before seeing your review for it though.

  13. This sounds like a great product!! I love that it has an extra slow mode for the kids, so my 5 year old and 7 year old ungraceful boys could use it too. I would so use it - I always enjoy my workouts when there's dance moves involved and not just walking!!! Thanks for the chance!

  14. ohhh, my friend has one of these and we had a BLAST on it! I was so uncoordinated, so it would be great to practice a bit and then dazzle her with my mad skills!

  15. I really like this - especially that you don't need a gaming system to use it! Also it's great that it's more "family friendly" with the graphics than DDR.

  16. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a dance program like this and had many of the same dislikes that you stated. This looks to be just what we were looking for.

  17. Anything that I can use as a weight-loss tool is a plus and since my family only listens to Christian radio, I know we would all love to dance it out to some great Praise music! This would be great!!!

  18. I don't know how to dance! I am sure this would help me get over my insecurities about dancing and to stay in shape!

  19. I am always looking for fun ways to stay in shape. Hard work is not my bag. I like you over all outlook on life. Got any pet advice?

  20. DDR is awesome! When I used to live with my roommate, we had the game, but now that I live by myself we don't have it anymore :( This alternative to the game sounds way cool, because, you're right, the dancers are a bit much.

  21. I LOVE DDR but you're right.....they are definitely not family appropriately dressed. I never paid much attention to it until my 4 yr old wanted to dance with me. Then I started looking at it through her eyes. This sounds like a great alternative!!

  22. I never knew about Dance Praise. I am so glad I read your review. I wanted to try ddr, but the music with Dance Praise sounds much more me than the ddr stuff.

  23. I would love to win this...but I would give it to my brother and his family. They rent a house and we live in an apartment...our downstairs neighbors already hate us when we don't stomp on the floor to a game!

  24. That looks really cool. I bet it's something my mom and dad would love because they always have the youth groups at church come to their house for parties.

We had DDR for XBox but my son is trying to sell all his XBOX stuff so I no longer use it.

Dancing is such a great workout!

  25. I have been looking for something like this for a while and was so excited to see this review and giveaway! This looks like a fun way to get back in shape and dance as well :)

  26. This is such a great idea! I wish all manufacturers would figure out that scantily clad figures are not appealing to everyone.

  27. I was in Oklahoma and Bye, Bye Birdie in high school. I was singing and not doing much dancing, although, I loved to choreograph my own dance routines for fun! This dance pad sounds like a good time for our whole family.
    Thanks very much.....Cindi

  28. I think my family would have a lot of fun with this game- right now, I have to strategically plan when I work out because if the Wii balance board is involved, my 21 month old wants to stand on it with me. That's usually not very good for getting some real exercise in.

  29. I know this doesn't require a wii, but my husband and I just got one for Christmas, and we have actually had a lot of fun playing games with each other (we usually only have time for one quick game of bowling or tennis before we have to get some chores done). This would be a lot of fun to play!

  30. Okay, I have to admit. I would love to win this for my husband. He loves to dance and we'd have so many laughs trying to follow along with the game. It would also get us up off of our rears!

  31. I bought a dance pad geared for children. I gave it to my grand kids for Christmas one year. We have had a ball on it. Now I want one of my own. I found I did more exercising on that than any exercise video I owned.

  32. I have a couple friends who love Dance Praise...I've wanted to try it but haven't had the chance. They should try and sell it for the Wii.

  33. I have seen this in the christian book store and always wanted to try it. I think is wonderful to take something so "popular" and make it more family appropriate. I would love to win this.

  34. This looks like a lot of fun. I am not coordinated in the least when it comes to dancing, but my daughter seems to have a great knack for it. I'll bet she'd really enjoy it! :)

  35. I would love to have this for myself and the kids. It would be fun to dance around and maybe lose some weight.

  36. That's cool - I didn't know there was an easier mode for kids. My daughter would really like this and I know my wife has also expressed interest in one of these games, but the closest we could find to family-friendly for a major console was the Disney offering. This might actually help my kid learn some of the songs as well. :)

    Thanks for the great review.

  37. Hey I danced with you in Oklahoma! I forgot about that. :) This looks fun and I know my big girl would LOVE to do it with me.

  38. Oh, I would love this! We don't have a gaming system so it would be perfect for us! This is my favorite type of "video" game anyway! I think some friends have this and we played it once. I totally agree with your points about the regular DDR. Plus, I don't know many of the "popular" songs so I would probably know more of the Praise songs and be able to sing along too! Also, much better for little ears to hear! :)

  39. My 60+ year old mother is obsessed with Wii and told me she wants Dance Dance Revolution for her next birthday. It's pretty funny but she's gotten all the grandkids into it as well. I would love to win this for her as her birthday is in March.

  40. cool!!! i had no idea they had a praise songs one. i was just looking through the list of artists and there are some of my favorites like Rebecca St. James, Newsboys and Mark Schultz.

  41. OH MY GOSH!!! I LOVED DDR! My sister had it (lucky) and we did it all the time. And I have to say, it was a good workout. This is so fun. Wish I could come over for a "dance" party!!! :)

  42. This is awesome. I am a big dancer too what a fun way to get in shape and have fun!! Thanks for the giveaway!! Thanks for the photos too. So cute to see you working out and having fun together!!

  43. This is totally great.
As you know we are a relatively un-plugged family. BUT for Tyler's 40th birthday I got him a Wii. And we are all loving it. Crazy, but fun plus a little active play thrown in.

  44. wow...now this looks like a fun way to exercise! this would've definitely been a better way to spend our once a week outings back in the day. remember when we used to try out different restaurants using the coupons in our Entertainment books? Fun times...
