Homemade Pizza

We finally made homemade pizza.

And it turned out pretty delicious.

In case you're wondering: Yes, we did purposely leave that top corner pepperoni-free for our 2-year-old. Oddly, she likes pepperonis uncooked {see above}, but not cooked.

I think I'd like to make homemade pizza more often (I'm sure it's much healthier than delivery or Digiorno).

I'm now on a quest for the perfect pizza dough and pizza sauce recipe. The ones we tried were just mediocre. As a general rule, I prefer more "sophisticated" pizzas (vegetable, tomato & basil, four cheese, etc.), whereas my husband prefers meaty pizza (especially pepperoni and bacon).

I made the dough from scratch. We used jarred pizza sauce because we were in a hurry (not the best choice). To top it off, we added mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.

lodge pro logic pizza pan by lodge cast iron cookwareP.S. Did you happen to notice my super duper pizza pan? It's the Lodge Pro Logic Pizza Pan by Lodge Cast Iron Cookware. It's a heavy-duty (and I DO mean heavy! It's a good thing I'm on day 20 of the 30-day shred! Ha!), high-quality piece of cookware that will last a long time. This is the kind of thing that is passed on to the next generation. It's that durable. I recommend it to anybody who likes pizza and products that don't fall apart.

YOUR TURN: Do you ever make homemade pizza? Do you have any favorite recipes?

  7. My favorite pizza recipe is-
Roll out a can of Pillsbury Pizza Dough onto a jelly roll pan. Prick with a fork and bake at 350 for about 10 min. Take out of oven and spread with BBQ sauce. On top of that add cooked chicken pieces, cheddar cheese, red onions, broccoli, and red peppers. Bake until cheese is melted and bottom and sides of crust is brown.

  8. I think the best dough recipe is Wolfgang Puck's basic pizza/foccacia dough recipe. My husband loves it.

In a pinch I use pitas and put pizza toppings on them and broil them in the toaster oven for a quick dinner.

I remember years ago as a kid eating a deep dish pizza at Pizza Hut and it came in a cast iron pan. It was great. I have no idea if they use them anymore.

  9. I've shoved a pizza together occasionally. Usually when there is nothing else to eat in the house. I do find that a roll of biscuit dough topped with sausage, cheese and anything else I can find in the fridge makes a quick and tasty meal.

  10. I love making homemade vegetarian pizzas, but I've yet to use an actual pizza pan. I'm a huge fan of anything cast iron, so I'm sure I'll love it!

  11. My parents used to make homemade pizza on a pizza stone in the oven when my sister and I lived at home, but I've never tried myself. I would like to, though, and this pan would really help!

  15. no, I don't make homemade pizza, but for a good reason! Oven's broken. When I get a new one I'd like to try my hand and pizza making!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  16. it's funny you posted this topic, because I was just telling my husband recently that we need to try to make homemade pizza...all 4 of us in our family love pizza, even my toddler, but we have never attempted it.

this pan looks awesome and would help motivate me to take the plunge and try homemade pizza..
thanks for the contest, as always!

  17. I personally haven't made homemade pizza, but I've eaten others' creations. This pan might inspire me, though. The freshness of homemade pizza can't be beat.

  18. It's been awhile since I made a homemade pizza, but I like to make it with a whole wheat/white four mixture for the crust. I make my own sauce, and top it with sauteed mushrooms, parmesan, and mozzerella cheese. I like to make a quick pizza snack by using wheat a tortilla for a crust and topping it with olive oil, provolone cheese slices, fresh basil and tomatoes. Right now our basil and tomatoes from the garden are plentiful, so I need to go buy some tortillas. Thanks for the chance to win such a great pan.

  19. I make homemade pizza and love Emeril's pizza dough recipe. It is perfect. I use a pizza stone but have problems getting the pizza on and off the peel, so this would really help me! I have a pan by this comapny and love the quality!

  20. We love homemade pizza and go for the healthy whole wheat crust from Boboli then use spagetti sauce usually an Arribiatta. Then lots of cheese and Italian Seasoning. Yum!

  21. I made homemade pizza over at a friend's house last winter and it was the best pizza to ever enter my mouth. He used a baking stone instead of a pan.

  22. I have made homemade pizza, and the key determinant as many foodies know, is the water. So if you're traveling to or through NYC, you should take some tap to go, cause it makes all the difference.

  23. I love homemade pizza, although I haven't made it in awhile. One problem is that I don't have a proper pan. Please enter me to win this one. Thank you!

  24. I've made homemade pizza too and it was with a really cheap pan from Target. I'll probably never use the thing again because it flaked badly. YECK.

  25. we love making pizzas! actually we like using pitas and just using them as pizza crust - they are the prefect size for personal pies.

  26. Homemade pizza is always a special dinner night at my house. I would love to use this great pan. Thanks for the chance.

  27. I haven't made homemade pizza in years but if I win this, that will change. I love ham and pineapple on my pizzas.

  28. I tried to make a homemade pizza earlier this year and I have to admit that it turned out horrible! I don't think I made the dough right and it ended up being more of a pizza casserole in the end!

  29. This looks like such an awesome pizza pan, I really enjoy high quality items and would love to take this for a spin with my kids :D

  30. It's been years since I made a homemade pizza- your blog has made me so hungry for one now!
    Please enter me- thanks!

  31. The picture of your daughter making that pizza with her daddy is so precious. Would love to win this to make pizza.

  32. I made homemade pizza ONCE. And that was it. What a mess and I think I probably spent more on ingredients than I would if I had ordered it. But now that I think of it, the pizza would definitely be more healthy if we made it ourselves. Wow. I think I'll make pizza tomorrow. Darn it! Now I'm hungry!

  33. My husband doesn't like processed foods---he really wants everything from scratch---great for you--but very time consuming ---He also loves to cook using cast iron---this pizza pan would be his dream come true---we have tried many pre made pizza doughs as well as many recipes---and I really love our local Winco market's dough---a little simple home made sauce mozzarella --I mix in a little cheddar, pepperoni and mushrooms.

  34. I have made pizza with the Boboli crusts and mini pizzas with English muffins. I want to try making pizza with a homemade crust.

  35. I love making pizzas with my kids! They always show off their artistic abilities during the placing of the toppings as we call it. Thanks for the giveaway!

  36. I get pre-made dough and mane a thin crust, we like just cheese or veggie toppings, also like white cheese and pesto

  37. Well I'll be, I think your daughter and I are from the same mold lol. I love my pepperoni just as it is while our pizza is cooking! For some reason, never did seem to like it toasty.

  38. I make my crust dough in the bread machine using a recipe from the King Arthur Flour site. I use jarred pizza sauce, until I can find a good recipe! I'd love to use this pan for making pitas! Thanks for the giveaway!

  39. Yes I make homemade quite often. I usually go lazy and use pitas with a simple pasta sauce and cheese.

  40. We've made homemade pizza's before but haven't in a while. I've been wanting to try use the artisan bread in five minutes bread dough to make some pizza dough. I've heard it works good.

  41. we love homemade pizza in my house we all add toppings it gets very creative and always something new thanks for the chance to win

  42. I'm another that's not too great at making my own pizza crust. But my kids think pizza is pizza!!! This pan would be great. I know that Lodge makes great products. Thanks so much!

  43. We love to make homemade pizza! I think that my oldest son would eat Pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  44. I have made pizza before but I just used boxed crust and jarred pizza sauce. My family likes it just fine. Thanks for the great contest!

  45. We love homemade pizza! It's so much better than the delivery stuff and we have a great time making it.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  46. I AM PIZZA CHALLENGED!! Ah this pan is just the ticket to "beat" my sister's prize winning pizza cooked on her "pizza stone!" I would welcome a change from my typical cookie tray for making pizza at our house! I think a good pizza is what it is made in! Thanks for the great suggestion!

  47. At age 61, striking out on the Pizza Trail...I'm SURE that "Charcoal" is NOT one of the choices on most pizzeria menues, but Richard seems to have chosen that as one of HIS categories whenever he attempts to make a pizza! Sooo..up steps the Old Lady (me), with the thought that maybe...just maybe...it's in the PAN (boost to his ego, I'm sure!)...Making less in a month than most make in a week, and subsisting on foodstamps has made your sweepstakes most alluring! Richard gets disability, and I get zero income, so winning such a wonderful pizza pan can help on oh, so many levels!! I KNOW charcoal is good for the digestion, but I don't think it should be ALL that one digests! LOL

  48. The Lodge Pizza/Roasting Pan is a magnificent piece of cast iron and is the best way to prepare golden-crusted pizza, or roast veggies. Perfect for cookie or biscuit sheet.
Thanks for a chance to win a prize!

  49. I used to make an outstanding thin crust, whole wheat pizza dough. Then I got lazy and started using Boboli crust and sauce. If I win this great pan, I promise to dig out the recipe.

  50. I love pizza but all the good pizza places are far from our house. Winning this will be great so I can make pizza when I feel like it.

  51. My kids and I make home made pizza all the time! It's fun for them to put whatever they want on their halves- my daughter prefers veggies and my son would rather have peperonis and onions!

  52. Nope, we're too lazy to make it ourselves. I did buy pre-made dough once and make calzones by folding it over the toppings though, that was pretty tasty.

  53. I didn't even know what "store-bought" pizza tasted like until I went away to college. What a change, the homemade stuff is always better it seems (although I have been to a restaurant called the "Pie Pizzeria" where it was pretty good.) The addition of a "real" pizza pan will make it that much more fun.

  54. I make my pizza dough in the bread machine...which saves a lot of kneading and effort! I don't have a good pizza pan right now though (and live too far from my mom to steal hers!) so I usually end up buying a loaf of french bread at a local bakery and slicing it up and then putting pizza toppings on the slices. That works well for variety though, especially when having a large group over--everyone gets to personalize their own!

  55. My mom has made a bisquick based "pizza dough" for as long as I can remember. It is really more bread or biscuit though. I have been trying to expiriment with real pizza dough and havn't managed a great one yet. This pan would definitely help my mission though and I love cooking with cast iron. Thanks for the giveaway!

  56. I love making Nourishing Tradition's yogurt-dough recipe for pizzas. I use spelt flour, yogurt, and butter and let that soak at room temperature for 12-24 hours. I pre-bake it on stoneware and then make my pizza after it has set. The dough has a firm but tender consistency that's just the right amount of sour for your tastebuds. It also holds up well to any kind of topping.

  57. we do every now and then. I use Jiffy Mix pizza crust, store bought sauce and whatever we have on hand for toppings. I've heard that chopping the leftovers and using them to make omelets is good. Never tried it because I always eat a slice straight out of the fridge the next day for breakfast. :D

  58. We have make your own pizza night about once a month. I buy all the various ingredients that my family loves and then we divide the pizza dough into 4 and we all get to add whatever we want to our "slice"

  59. Anything to make cooking easier and more fun at home sounds great to me! I can use all the help i can get in that area. We eat out WAY too much!

  60. On a recent visit to my mother who lives 1200 miles away so don't get to do the good bargain hunting was told she is looking for the cast iron muffin pan and she just got engaged at 70 years old, well her boy friend collects cast iron skillets and baking pans, I saw he had the pizza pan and made the statement my kids would love that and wow here you have one for a prize, that's da ju vue. I have a cast iron pan I use to make macaroni and cheese, corn bread, baked beans on the grill. I guess cast iron is making a come back.

Thank you so very very much

  61. I love pizza and I love making pizza! My boyfriend and I could use this a lot. I would probably use everyday haha

  62. I make homemade pizza about once a week. My twin sons could eat it daily! I just threw out an old pizza pan we had. It was pretty bad looking and had rust on it. This would be great to replace it with.

  63. I love making home made pizza. I make once every 2 weeks. I don't have a special recipe though. I just like hamburger, pepperoni, canadian bacon, and red, green, and yellow peppers.

    jason(at)allworldautomotive(dot)com

  64. Ah, my boyfriend and I made a pizza a few weeks ago, and we could've used this pan! I hope I win, because ours turned out so great we plan on making more.

  65. i haven't had homemade pizza in years. i used to make a great pepperoni and black olive pizza with extra cheese. it was awesome!

  66. Favorite pizza? On the grill! (No kidding, you can do it!) I like to start with ready-made dough, roll it out, and coat boths side with olive oil. Throw one side on the grill for about 5 min. (til it's browned with grill marks), flip, and cook about 2-3 min more. Remove from the grill, and flip it over on your plate. Put your favorite sauce and toppings (green pepper and ham for me!) and cheese, and return your masterpiece back to the grill to heat everything up and melt the cheese. Awesome! (I wonder if this Lodge pan would fit on my grill?!)

  67. I've never tried making pizza myself. Maybe it's time now, I'm almost 54 years old! This pan looks perfect for the job. Thanks! :)

  68. Pizza is great for our weekly movie night and I would love to win this to make my fave pizzas for the whole family!!! Thanks

  69. Pizza is a food staple especially with my husband around. During the cooler months we like to explore and make some homemade pizza with different topping. Different to my kids is not the usually pepperoni but maybe sausage. Anyway this pan would definately have a good home here.

  70. I make homemade pizza frequently. I use a standard bread machine recipe for the crust. However what really makes it great is the sauce. I take tomatoes from our garden, dice them, and throw them in a roasting pan with onions, garlic, oregano, and basil. I roast it in a 425 degree oven until the liquid has cooked off. I use that as a sauce. Yum-O!

I am trying to add more cast iron to my kitchen. I have a cast iron muffin tin that I use frequently. Had no idea there was a cast iron pizza pan. Thanks for hosting this giveaway

  71. We make homemade pizza from time to time - the best is with homemade sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil from the garden - simple but delicious!

Another favorite variant of mine is grilled pizza. We'll make the pizza and stick it in a cast-iron pan, then put that over the grill; unusual but awesome.

  72. Haha mini diva and I don't like our pepperoni cooked either- it gets greasier (at least looking) and spicier, that's probably why she doesn't like it either.
The pan looks fabulous I didn't even know they made such a nice one- most I've seen are much lighter.

  73. We dont make homemade, but I'd like to start. I admit to eating a frozen pizza on occasion! My husband loves them. Pizza stones or pans are awesome for crisping the bottom!!

  74. I DO love to make homemade pizza. I have a really good wheat crust that I make, and I like to put ranch dressing, chicken, spinach, and onions on it. Thanks so much!!

  75. My family loves to make homemade pizza. I find it much more affordable to make our own. Sometimes I buy premade, frozen dough by the case from Sam's Club. All you need to do is defrost it ovenight in the frig, let rise and you are ready to go!

  76. we love homemade pizza...would love to have a cast iron pizza pan,,,,i have a certain iron skillet i make corn bread in....and it always taste better cooked in there

  77. Yes, we make homemade pizza occasionally. We usually make the dough in the bread machine, then add tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, black olives, and onions to half the pizza since my kids won't eat onions. Yum!!

  78. Pizza making reminds me of Friday nights as a kid...I love making a greek inspired pizza with sundried tomatoes, feta cheese, garlic, olives and spinach....you can also add anchovies and capers if ur feeling daring....with a yummy thick homemade crust!

  79. If by homemade you mean: buy a Pillsbury pizza crust and add yummy toppings such as cheese, tomatoes, onions, pepperoni, and a jarred sauce, then yes, I do make homemade pizza! It's still probably healthier than any restaurant pizza, even though it's not made from scratch.

  80. I love making homemade pizza, but my pizza stone does not work well anymore, so this would work great!

  81. We love Pizza & I do use cast iron cookery for some of my dishes. I never new you could get a cast iron pizza pan. I'ld love to try it.

  82. I have never made homemade pizza myself, but my mom makes a pie from scratch that's to die for, so one day soon I need to get her to teach me her tricks of the trade! Her two specialties are her pepperoni and proscuitto and her dessert pizza with cherries and cream cheese. If I'm the lucky winner, I'll surprise her with this pan and ask her for a lesson immediately. Thanks!

  83. We love making homemade pizza, but we always have to make our own. Hubby likes onions and peppers and I like olives! This would certainly help us make better pizza :)

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  84. We do make homemade pizza and enjoy it. I love fresh, creamy mozzerella, even though it makes my pizza a bit wet. One of our favorites is mushroom, red onion, and riccotta. I add arugula after it is cooked.

  85. We do make homemade pizza dough and we spread it with store bought pizza sauce and toppings. The problem with my dough recipe is that it gets fluffy and light when I prefer a more crispy crust. I have tried experimenting but to no avail. We usually split it down the middle in terms of toppings since my husband and I prefer different toppings - I like lots of veggies and he prefers more meat. Thanks for the giveaway!

  86. i've made homemade pizza about 2 times. I thought I was gonna do it quite often turns out, i'm not that great of a cook. I even went and bought the big jar of yeast so i didn't have to use the little packets. The second time i made pizza it turned out pretty good. I think i should have added a little sugar to give it some sweetness. lol thanks stephanie.

btw the baby is getting big and she has your smile. :-)

  87. we make homemade pizza all the time , but we use a stone pizza plate. this looks like something i would love to try

  88. We make homemade pizza every week because we need to make our own gluten-free crust. We usually put on various veggies and cheese.

  89. I love homemade pizza!! We love Alton Brown's dough recipe with tomatoes (canned from the garden) basil and fresh mozzarella for the topping. So good!!

  90. We rarely make homemade pizza, but when we do, it's lots of cheese. We sometimes make it in an electric skillet, it makes a great deep dish version.

  91. I need a new pizza pan. My current one is just one of those cheap little aluminum ones and I've had it about 10 years now. It's gotten rusty over the years too. I have to put aluminum foil all over it if I want to be a rust-free pizza. macd82 at gmail dot com

  92. You can't compare homemade pizza to storebought. And although it becomes a job being that I try to make an assortment of toppings, I do it from time to time because its an item you simply can't buy

  93. The only problem with me making homemade pizza, is now any time we want pizza I have to make it. I can't get a break!!

  94. We make our own gluten-free pizza, using a recipe from a GF cookbook, with turkey pepperoni and lots of cheese.

  95. I love to make homemade pizza. The kids will only eat pepperoni so I have to make it half pep. for them and add some grown up toppings on the the other half.

  96. I usually use store bought dough. I like to put fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden on as toppings. Yummy.

  97. We make homemade pizza frequently. Sometimes we use store bought dough, sometimes we make our own. We usually cook it on the grill in the summer (hint: grill the dough without toppings first to cook and puff it, then top and and put it back on to heat the toppings). We made a gluten-free pizza that was delicious, but it required cooking in a pan, and I suspect it would have been even better in this pan!

  98. When my kids were small we made homemade pizza a couple of times a month, but we didn't have a cool pizza pan like this. I would love to use this to make pizza with the grandkids.

  99. My father used to make tortilla pizzas from tortillas, pizza sauce, and mozzarella. They were simple but good! :D

  100. I love to do homemade pizza and often do it on the grill with some wood chips smoking to add even more flavor. I also love Lodge Cast Iron for cooking. It is actually good for you because it adds its iron to your diet. I do not have the Lodge pizza pan yet and would LOVE to win it.

  101. I've never cooked pizzas at home. I always see the ingredients in the store and think about making it but I'm too lazy to bring home the ingredients and make it when I know I can just order it in.

  102. WE make homemade pizza every Friday night in the colder months and let the kids put their own toppings on. Great fun for all!

  103. I do heat frozen pizza on a pizza brick. But it's been years since I've made pizza from scratch. I's certain a good pan would make the task easier, neater and the clean-up faster.

    bgcchs(at)yahoo(dot)com

  104. I would love to have this pan. We make pizza on an oblong pan right now and the middle never seems to get quite done before the crust starts to get too brown. I have other Lodge Cast Iron pieces and they will last a lifetime.

  105. I make homemade pizza several times a week, topped with all the fresh veggies that are in season.
For the dough, I use homemade biscuit dough, made from self-rising flour. Roll it out real thin, and roll sides up, and you have a pie crust similar to pan pizza. I do not have a round pizza pan, therefore, we use a large rectangular cookie sheet.

  106. We sometimes cook pizza at home. It's just so much easier to order out and have the nice people bring it to the house with paper plates and all the other evil stuff that goes along with junk food. I feel guilty admitting that out loud.

  107. This pan looks so nice! I make homemade pizza only occasionally, the pan that I have now is pretty flimsy and tends to burn it in some spots and keep the dough raw in others.

  108. We make pizza often. I use the breadmaker to mix the dough from scratch. We usually use sauce from a jar and basic toppings, cheese, pepperoni, onions, etc.

  109. Wow, I'd love to have a real cast-iron pizza pan. I made pizza a few times, it always turned out fairly well, but my pizza pan is a flimsy piece of blaaah.

  110. We make pizzas at home all of the time. It saves money and we can make them healthier than getting them delivered. We use reduced fat cheese and light pizza dough. It really does taste just as good. We pile on the veggies so that it becomes a complete and healthy meal.

  111. I have not make comepletly homemade pizza but I have made pizza's that are not just frozen. Adding sauce, cheese, and meat on a pizza crust. I have also made small children's pizzas with english muffins add sauce and cheese.

  112. I have never made homemade pizza but reading all the enthusiests above makes me want to try. We had 1 child who hates onions and you guessed it . When we ordered onions on half , she would ALWAYS find at least one on HER side.

  113. I haven't made pizza at home in a really long time. We used to make mini pizzas on english muffins with cheese and spaghetti sauce. Those were always nice easy snacks or light dinners. But full blown pizzas I've never really made very often.

  114. We have been buying frozen pizza instead ordering out, but I have been wanting to try making our own for some time now. All homemade dishes taste better than store-bought-frozen ones. A great pizza pan can really make the difference in how your pizza turns out, too. I love how durable cast-iron is and this seems like one really great pan! Great review. I saw there are some links to recipes in people's comments...I will have to go check some out.
    Superb {and yummy} giveaway!

  115. Cast iron may be "old-fashioned", but it can't be beat. My hand-me down cast iron fry pan is a favorite with all the family cooks.

  116. Pizza is definitely one of our favorite foods as a family.
Making homemade pizza allows all of us to be involved in preparing dinner. And my children love it when they think that they were responsible for cooking dinner.
Thank you so much for the chance to win.

  117. So far only Dominoes, frozen and take-out pizzas for me. Any homemade attempts have failed. Please accept my entry. Thank you.

  118. I make homemade pizza all the time, because I have to have gluten-free crust, and the frozen gluten-frees cost too much. I make my own sauce. I just use a can of tomato sauce and put pizza seasoning on it. It's just a jar of spices-I can't think of the brand name. but I wish I could figure out how to keep the crust from getting soggy when re-heating it...

  119. We don't make the pizzas at home but we like to go and get papa murphys pizzas (where you pick up pre-made pizzas that you bake at home). It's cheaper than regular pizza and you get a lot healthier pizza options there.

  120. We love to do homemade pizzas! We like to do ours on the grill...I wonder if this pan could be used on the grill?

By the way...just found your blog and am totally lovin' it!

  121. We make homemade pizza at least once every week or two. It so so fun! I think it is hilarious that your girl doesn't like the pepperoni cooked - made me giggle :) When we don't make our own dough, we walk down the street to the BEST little pizza place around (Pizza 1) and buy some of their dough for a few dollars, come home and roll it out, then top it with our toppings. We haven't bought pizza from a pizza place in a very long time!

  122. We do homemade pizzas pretty frequently. I love putting artichoke hearts on my pizza. It sounds a little exotic but honestly it tastes fabulous with fresh tomato slices and some mozzarella cheese.

  123. I often make pizza on bread making days, using bread dough for the crust -- sourdough, white, wheat, rye, bran, buckwheat, 6-grain -- whatever I've got going. For toppings my favorite combination is green pepper, onions, mushrooms and black olives.

  124. My son makes his own pizzas
    1 english muffin
    1/4 bottle of ragu
    any wayyyyy to much cheese

cook in moms toaster over until the cheese burns and sets off the smoke alarm...perfect!
    :)

  125. I love homemade pizza. We have made several variations including seafood pizza. My husband makes wonderful pizzas!

  126. I love to make veggie pizzas, with squash, zucchini, different mushrooms and lots of cheese, with an olive oil base instead of tomato sauce. Experimentation is the key!

  127. I am a follower and we make pizza on Saturday night my husband makes the dough from scratch and I make the pizza sauce and then we use lots of cheese shrimp bell peppers mushrooms purple onions tomatoe wedges banana peppers and topped with sausage and cheese and we love it

  128. I have thought about making homemade pizza but never have actually tried it, primarily because I don't have a properly sized pan to bake it on. My absolute favorite pizza used to be the chicken and pesto pizza from Schlotzsky's.

  129. I have never made homemade pizza but a friend has made the most delicious pizzas and I would like to give it a try.

  130. We made pizza last night, do it often. When I don't have time to make it from scratch, I use Pillsbury's Hot Roll Mix for the crust. Works great!

  131. We make homemade pizza quite often. It is delicious if you make a crust from fast-rising yeast and corn meal, and it's easy too. I would love to own that gorgeous pan you've pictured.

    Thank you for the giveaway.

  132. Ive had terrible luck making my own pizzas - everything from bad crust to so/so sauce. just never seem to get it right. im a huge fan of the classic restaurant style pizzas too, and that doesnt help. but.... maybe a new pan will at least inspire to keep trying. thanks! ([email protected])

  133. We have just started making our own pizza...it's a lot of fun to get the kids involved. I don't have any new recipes yet though!

  134. I make homemade pizza every week - it's a Friday night tradition in our household. I use the breadmaker, so the crust is perfect all the time. My kids love Prego spaghetti sauce, so I put that on top of the pizza, and cover it with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. Then I sprinkle the top with oregano.

  135. I haven't made homemade pizza in years, but I don't have a good excuse for why not. I have two breadmakers and could easily make dough, and I love all sorts of interesting toppings I can't get at my local small-town pizzeria. If I win, I promise to try making my own!

  136. I haven't made homemade pizza in a while...usually it is a winter thing because I hate to turn on the oven too much in the summer. I've got boys who like the basic cheese pizza, so I don't have any fancy recipes to pass on....:(

  137. I ALWAYS make homemade pizza but I can never find a good pan! i have tried so many kinds and brands. The pan always burns the bottom of the crust, or the crust sticks, or it's not cooked enough, or it won't rise. I would love to try this pan! Looks like it would finally work for me!

  138. We make homemade pizza a lot, but I still haven't found the perfect dough. To me, pizza from Marco's or Papa John's tastes better than my homemade. Please post the recipe if you find a great recipe!

  139. Last week I made some yummy avacado-bacon pizza. It didn't have any pizza sauce - just the squashed up avacado!

  140. We tried homemade pizza once, and it didn't work out well... Although, unless you consider packaged pizza dough and sauce, it wasn't really homemade. Our friends do homemade pizza and cook it on their grill, and it is AMAZING, but the dough and sauce are actually homemade and they taste great! I'll have to get that recipe from them and try it myself, and pass it on to you (that is, if they'll give it up!). =)

  141. Nah, I don't have the culinary talent for well, pretty much anything. Pizza comes out of the box and into the oven!

  142. I make homemade pizza occasionally. The last couple of times I cheated and used a Boboli crust instead of making our own, my boys love it. I use very little sauce and top it with mozzarella, italian sausage, and pepperoni. If I had a nice pizza pan like this one, I would definitely make pizza more often. Thanks!

  143. I make pizza quite often actually!in my convection oven that i love so much :) My favorite recipe would be the veggie pizza, or the spinach and feta cheese pizza with whole wheat crust!

  144. It has been many years since i have made home made pizza. We are pizza lovers too,so thats crazy!! So many great sounding products and recipes on their website. I am going to check them out again for sure;)

  145. We have a cheap aluminum pizza pan that works OK, but I'm sure this works much better. It'd be nice to give it a whirl.
    Thanks!

  146. We love homemade pizza! We usually put at least four different cheeses on it (must have feta!), a bit of oregano, fresh basil if we have it, and other things. The next step is homemade calzones. They're divine.

  147. I love making homemade pizza. We are always on the lookout for new crust recipes. I would love to havethat pan, right now I use a cookie sheet.

  148. LOVE making homemade pizza - my 14month old loves soft crust. We'll make a thin crust with refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese (taco pizza) or sometimes use light alfredo sauce and add spinach, chicken and mozzarella - yum!

  149. I've never made my own pizza, but I sure would start trying (and have a whole lot of fun with the family) with that cooking pan :)

  150. This looks like an awesome pizza pan that would heat and cook evenly. For us, a far better choice than pizza stones. Bring it on!

  151. We make homemade pizza every week. We have a stone and a paddle. It taste way better than anything you can get out in town.
    tamben7996(at)aol(dot)com

  152. I hate the cheap pizza pans they always warp. I use my pizza pans for more than just pizza though! cookies, garlic bread, pretty much anything. It's been awhile since I mad homemade pizza though, think I'll have to add stuff to the grocery list and do that next week!

  153. Sometimes we make homemade pizzas if we have the time. We like to try different toppings, so it's never the same old thing everytime. I would love a cast iron pan to create even better pizzas.

  154. I love to make home made pizza. My favorite is to use fresh dough made in my bread maker, top with fresh sliced tomatoes sprinkled with Italian Seasoning and then toss on some fresh mozzarella balls - cook about 15 minutes and voila - yummy. Wonderful looking pizza pan, I don't have anything as nice as that!

  155. I have made homemade deep dish pizza with Bisquick-the whole family loves it. I top it with sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, cheese and tomato.
    smchester at gmail dot com

  156. I used to make homemade deep dish pizza when my children were younger. My grandchildren love pizza, guess I need to do it again just for them.

  157. When we get pizza from Whole Foods, we don't have a pizza pan. so, it goes in the oven and we hope the crust is thick enough. we retrieve it with the cardboard circle. last saturday, we had pizza falling through the wire rack...not a pretty site. our pizza turned into a calzone!

i love cast iron...such a healthy metal to cook upon. I have a cast iron skillet and i use it to cook almost EVERYTHING.

a cast iron pizza pan, now I could do a heckuva lot with that. pizzas, galettes, sweet potato fries, and so much more! yum!

  158. I have to make homemade pizza most of the time. I live a 45 minute drive to the nearest good pizza parlor. Fortunately, I can buy the dough frozen at the grocery store. I have made all kinds of unusual combos that I wouldn't be able to get at a store. I would like to get a good pan since I use a cookie sheet. I think the crust would turn out better with a pan like you are giving away. Hope! Hope!

  159. I use to make my own dough and pizzas years ago but I don't remember the dough recipe. If I was to make my own now, I'd use the canned pizza dough.

  160. Does this work as well/better than a pizza stone? I have a stone, but rarely make pizza on it (it's great for cookies though.) I would love to try a cast iron pizza pan - thanks for the entry.

  161. I love pizza and things just seem to taste better to me when cooked on Cast Iron. I would love to try this at home.

  162. Who doesn't like pizza?! I love it! It isn't good for me, but I do love it.

I adore the picture of your daughter and husband together. Sweetness!

    Nell

  163. Mother & I usually have pizza about every two weeks or so. It's getting to expensive. I love making homemade pizza. I have not made homemade in a long time. This pan looks like it will make a crisp crust.

  164. I usually pop a frozen pizza in the oven that I have added a few more toppings to, but have been considering making my own lately since the price of a frozen pizza has gone up.

  165. We make homemade pizza at least once a month with our boys..they look forward to it! This looks like a really good pan!

  166. We used to make homemade pizza all the time but the calories are too high for me to do it often plus I have a hard time with portioning pizza slices LOL But hubs makes it all from scratch and it's really quite tasty. We make the dough in the bread maker when we do it.

I almost was going to say I'll pass on the chance to win the pizza pan because it looked non stick to me and we can't use non stick around our parrot. But when I saw cast iron I was so excited. I'll definitely have to check the company out because Kev loves cooking in cast iron.

  167. I would much rather make homemade pizza any day
than getting take out. It just is not as good as homemade pizza. What a great pan!

  168. Your pizza looks delicious. I would love to win and make my own pizza's. I know I would need help but my man would help me!

  169. I love homemade pizza! My favorite is a BLT pizza. I buy the crust from an Italian deli near by. I use a pizza pan that is old and falling apart cause I use it on the grill all the time. Anyway, roll the dough to the size and thickness you prefer (I like very thin crusts) then coat top surface with a thin coating of olive oil. Bake according to crust directions until almost done then sprinkle with your choice of cheese (I like American for this type of pizza) and continue baking. When done, cool slightly, smear on some mayo, then layer with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, crumbled cooked bacon, and if desired, finely chopped onion. Man, this is the best pizza ever! And I sure could use a new pizza pan! Thanks.

  170. I love making homemade pizza, because you know what is really on the pie. None of that mechanically processed stuff, EWWW.... The only problem I run into is getting the dough to cook all the way through so there is no gooey parts. I would like to see how this pan does compared to my stone pizza pan.

  171. What I like about cast iron cookware is that it promotes healthy eating because you get iron in your system by cooking with cast iron cookware. This is espeically important to pregnant women and those of us who still menstrate {especially teen girls cuz they can unknowingly become anemic from heavy flows.} The pan in the giveaway would get a lot of use at my house cuz it would also be used for my bread making.

  172. I make home-made pizza all the time. I use a dough recipe that came with my bread machine. For the sauce, I skin some tomatoes, cook them down with garlic, parsley, oregano, basil and tomato paste and run them through a food mill (this makes more than a few pizzas...I freeze them in one-cup measures). I top the pizza with cheeses and put pepperoni on hubby's share and bake for about 11 minutes. I have to use a regular cookie sheet since I don't have a pizza baking pan, so I'll just hope I win this one!

  173. Oh I can honestly say I have been wanting this pan for months and months. Been eyeing it on amazon.com but its over $50 which is too much for us to buy right now. We use ALL cast iron for all our cooking and baking at home so I have a lot of it. This is pretty much the only piece we are missing. We make homemade pizza once a week and have been using a baking stone but I think we would like the cast iron even better! :) Thanks for the contest!

  174. Maybe I am the only one that cheats. We make mini pizza. Plain old biscuits, top with sauce and each kid makes their own. Into the oven and 12 minutes later we are all happy.

  175. I always make homemade pizzas in my house. We use chef boy ar dee pizza mixes it has the best sauce.

  176. Lodge makes awesome kitchen gear. My Lodge cast-iron skillet is one of my favorite things I own! I'd love to win this pizza pan.

  177. Sometimes I get pizza dough at Trader Joe's or our local Italian deli. My son loves to help make it. I use a cookie sheet for the pan. Your pizza looks so delicious in the photo!

  178. I love making pizza for my family! It's fast and easy! I make dough ahead of time from scratch and keep it in the fridge for a slow second rise. Then I roll it out, top it with homemade sauce (a touch of honey makes it extra delish!) and fresh sliced mozzarella. So yummy! My husband likes to put more toppings on his side, like banana peppers and sausage. Delivery pizza is way too expensive for us, plus, homemade tastes way better!

  179. We love home made pizza. It's so much fun to make and the kids get whatthey want on top of it (or not). Thanks!

  180. I make cheeseburger pizzas regularly. I could use a quality pizza pan to get my crust evenly cooked.

  181. this would be great when I make homemade pizza when my grandkids come over...thanks for the great giveaway

  182. I would love to try to make homemade pizza. My family loves pizza but it gets so expensive to order.

  183. We make homemade pizza's sometimes, but haven't been doing that as much lately. We use a pretty basic pizza dough recipe with a touch of garlic powder when we make the dough. More often, we'll just buy a Pillsbury crust and some sauce and use those. We like making calzones, though. Pizza Dough, Ricotta, Spinach, some turkey Italian sausage, and some mozzarella combine very well into a calzone. Add sauce for dipping if desired.

  184. We make pizzas often - but I cheat and buy the pizza crust already made. We load ours up with a ton of ingredients - we like to add chorizo sausage for a little extra kick!

  185. My family loves homemade Pizza. I think it tastes so much better than ordering one. I like homemade tomato sauce, fresh Mozzarella and Pepperoni on mine.

    janetfaye (at) gmail (dot) com

  186. It has been AGES since I have made home made pizza. I am a fan of bbq chicken pizza so we slather on our fave bbq sauce, top with cheese and chicken and yummy pizza-y goodness like you couldnt imagine. I have never made the dough myself, so unwrap, top, and bake for me.

  187. Lodge makes great products. I love home made pizza and I can cook up some good ones with this pan.

  188. We make our own pizza at home, but Round Table is still a family favorite around here! I usually use the dough recipe from the cookbook that came with the Kitchenaid mixer, easy! Then, we use a small can of tomato paste for the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. My kids are the same way about eating the "raw" pepperoni and not liking it cooked! Myhusband is also a strictly meat pizza eater and isn't a fan of vegetables on his pizza! I make the pizza on a peel (wooden board with a handle) then transfer it to the pizza stone already heated in the oven. MMmmm, I love pizza!

  189. We do "make" our own pizzas at home, but I don't make the dough from scratch or anything. We buy the ready-made round ones at the grocery store and just have the kids pile up their favorite sauce and toppings on it and slide it in the oven. And just like your little girl, my kids are not big peperoni fans either. =) Thanks for the chance!

  190. Cast iron makes the crispiest homemade pizza ever. Have been using a cast iron frying pan(large size) to make Chef Boyardee box pizzas for years and they are fabulous!

  191. Eight month ago, I found out I was gluten-intolerant. So no more, so I thought, then I found Pizza Fusion and a website that sells gluten-free ingredients and I NEED a new pizza pan that has never been touched my wheat.

Oh....ah....once again to add my favorite items on a pizza and to once again have refrigerator pizza or leftover pizza.

Yummy. Life does go on after doctors.

    Thank you

Cast iron is the best. A great way to add the iron you need to your diet.

  192. i dont really do it from scratch...but this would be nice for my mom who does prefer it that way! (whos got the time to work full time and come home to make a dough! :))

i am not all that bad.. i do make dinner from scratch everyday..just that i like my friday night dinner to be a pizza from Red Baron (4 cheese since i am a vegetarian) and i cut up the numerous toppings myself! :)healthy and easy :)

  193. Would love to make a homemade vodka sauce pizza with this pan. I have never tried that sauce on pizza (as no restaurant uses it) and have had the inkling to try it recently.

  194. I tend to make more pizza at home because the only place locally that makes edible pizza is an hour away.

  195. I like the pizza dough recipe at http://www.momadvice.com/blog/2006/12/frugal-mommas-test-kitchen-pizza-dough.htm
only I use 1 cup whole wheat flour in place of one cup of the white flour.
I actually double this dough recipe and then freeze half of it, after it has doubled in size once. The recipe before doubling is enough dough for two pizza's. So if you only want one pizza, don't double the recipe (which will give you four pizza's), just freeze half the dough for another time. When you freeze the dough either put it inside of parchment paper, then in a air tight freezer bag or container, or you can lightly oil all sides, top and bottom of the container if you have no parchment paper. That way the dough won't stick to the container you freeze it in and will be easier to remove. Let it unthaw completely in the refrigerator (usually a day ahead of when it is needed) before using.

As for the sauce, I use a 26.5 ounce size of spaghetti sauce bought at the store, that I like (usually garden style, or mushroom) and mix it with one or two small cans of tomato paste (the 6 ounce size cans), and I mix in fresh herbs I have on hand, or if I don't have any on hand I mix in 1 pkg. of dry spaghetti sauce mix (the 1.4 ounce size). This makes enough sauce for 4 pizza's if you use about 1 cup of sauce on each. This is not alot of sauce, so if you like more sauce on more pizza it would probably only cover 2 or 3 pizza's. We top our pizza with various things, it just varies each time. I love veggies, so they definitely go on and hubby loves meat, so some type of meat is always on our pizza's. We always put Mozzarella cheese on them too.
I'd love to find a recipe for a white chessy sauce, instead of a tomatoey sauce for a pizza. A sauce that is similar to Domino Pizza's Philly Steak and Cheese pizza would be great. Anybody have a recipe for that type of pizza sauce?
    Good luck to all.

  196. My son-in-law loves my home made pizza. I've never seen a cast iron pizza pan. I'll bet if I had this it would give me a nice crunchy crust. I'd love to give this pan a try.

  197. This post made me hungry! My mom has a couple of Lodge cast iron pans and I've been wanting to include some in my own kitchen. This would be a fun one to start with!

  198. We haven't made the dough from homemade, but used Boboli shells and piled on sauce and various topping and it came out pretty well

  199. We haven't made homemade pizza in awhile. We use to have so much fun with our little girls making them. Geez I have forgotten...i think we will find some time soon to play in the kitchen again.

    [email protected]

  200. We don't make pizza because of some dietary restrictions. That being said, I desperately want to start learning how to adapt to those restrictions, so this would be a great addition to our kitchen to give me the kick in the butt I need to learn!

  201. My kids and I have made plenty of homemade pizzas but the latest crust was everyones favorite, I collect old cookbooks and we try new crusts everytime, so I'm willing to share. It's from "A World of Breads" by Dolores Casella, published in 1966.
"...uses 5 cups flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/4 c oil (preferably olive), 1 cake yeast (or 1 pkt), and 1-1/4 c warm water. When the dough has risen once, divide it into 2 parts and stretch each part to fit an oiled pizza pan." over cover with toppings and bake immediately at 400 F until done, approx 30 min.
    Thanks for the contest!

  202. I just started a gluten free diet, and found a great mix that makes pizza I actually like. It is called Chebe. If you go on their website, they show where it is sold around the country, and how to order it online, both of which are at very reasonable cost!

  203. Our homemade pizzas are currently made on flour tortillas which turn crunchy. We found a good pizza sauce at trader joe's and everyone has their own individual pizzas (kids like cheese, I like veggie, husband like meat). Would make larger pizza if had the raw materials (like that fantastic cast iron pizza tray you are giving away)
    tvollowitz at aol dot com

  204. We make homemade pizza all the time. We all have our favorite toppings so each one of us get to decorate 1/3 the way we want it. Works out great.

  205. I'd enjoy making homemade pizza on a monthly basis.

I like the fact that the Amish and Mennonite communities approves of Lodge Cookware!

  206. I like to use the frozen bread dough to make pizza becauseI don't have a breadmaker. This pan looks really nice. Thanks.

  207. To cut down on expenses we have started making home made pizza instead of ordering out. I love take out but home made has the advantage of smelling up the house while cooking. Plus we get to be creative with the crusts. This pan might help us not burn the wheat crusts.

  208. My husband loves Pizza. Making it is super simple, but the pan is always the problem. It never cooks it thoroughly the first time around, or it cooks unevenly. This looks like a perfect solution to our problem.

  209. I make homemade pizza about once a week - It's one of the few things my kids all love and agree on. This pan looks amazing! Thanks for sharing it!

  210. I've never made homemade pizza, really... my mother and I like to make English Muffin Pizzas though! Its a matter of putting sauce and cheese a toasted English muffin and throwing it in the oven!

  211. We have pizza and a movie night every Friday, and for the last 4 or 5 months it's been homemade pizza for us. I use my bread machine and the pizza dough recipe that came with it... adding in a little minced garlic cause that's the way we like it. It freezes well, so I can usually get 4 medium sized pizzas out of the large dough recipe. The sauce varies, but often I use the store bought variety. While our tomatoes are coming in we'll make our own, but I don't attempt to put any up for the winter... perhaps I'll try that this year.

It's so easy and the girls all love it!

This was our first real family tradition and I love that we're building memories together.

  212. I love homemade pizza. We just started making it with my three year old since she can finally eat cheese!!!!She loves sprinkling it on as well as the pepperoni. Most makes it to her mouth and not the pizza! This looks like a great high quality pizza pan! And handles are a major plus! Thanks for the opportunity to try it out! And by the way your picture looks like such a fun family activity!

  213. home made pizza is still my kids fave, who would oh thunk it with all the pizza chains in our area

  214. We make homemade pizza about once a month.I don't have a favorite recipe but I always use tons of cheese!

  215. I have made homemade pizza and it is so much better than store bought. My other favorite pizza making item is a welbilt bread maker. It makes wonderful pizza dough! I like the Mama Marys premade crust these days. It's super easy. Thanks for the contest!

  216. Thanks for the giveaway... We make veggie pizza using a homemade whole wheat dough made in a bread machine; we use a basic canned tomato sauce that I pick up at a local mom & pop pizza place & add various fresh herbs, topping it with onions, peppers, and extra cheese !!!

  217. we make pizzas at home only and every family/friend who have tried our home made, ask us to make every time they visit!. my both pizza pans have gone bad, so I would love this new pizza pan.thanks

  218. I used to make homemade pizza all the time, but I lost my crust recipe and haven't been able to find another good one.

  219. This pan would inspire me to make homemade pizza more often! I rely on my bread machine to make the crust (we like wheat crust) and everyone gets to top it with whatever they like!

  220. I use to make homemade pizza all the time in this incubator type of contraption. It worked pretty well for a while, but this thing was made in the late 70's I think, so it stopped working. I think about it all the time and wish I could be making more pizzas.

  221. I used to make homemade pizza often, but with take-out, delivery and some very goood frozen varieties, I haven't made one from scratch in ages. I'm thinking that I should give it a try once more!

  222. I love to make homemade pizza with my daughter. It is especially good since I started making the pizza dough in my bread maker.

  223. My daughter LOVES LOVES LOVES Pizza! We make homemade pizza very often in our home {what can I say, we are Italian!}

  224. I've made homemade pizza before, although it's been a while. The thing I like homemade pizza is that you can put whatever you want on it and it tastes much better than delivery!

  225. Why yes, in fact, I HAD noticed your pizza pan! I've been on the lookout for a good one, and I would imagine cast iron would hold the heat nice and consistently.

We make pizza pretty often at home - in fact the other day we had a make-your-own-pizza play date! I haven't settled on a favorite crust yet, or I'd share it with you, but I will check out the ones your commenters have linked. I usually make enough dough for two crusts, and after the first rise, I'll put half in a lightly oiled freezer bag and toss it in the freezer for another meal. Thaws and rises again beautifully.

  226. We make homemade pizza often. My kids really enjoy making pizza. We buy the can of pizza crust, add spagetti sauce, seasonings, lots of parm. cheese, then shredded mozzarella. We usually make two pizza's and add onto 1/2's, fresh garlic and pepperoni (husband), pepperoni for two of our kids and myself and plain. Everyone gets what they love.
This pan looks awesome. We could really use a wonderful strong pan like this. Thanks.

  227. I actually do homemade pizza in the crock pot.

    Yea...

Spaghetti sauce, pepperoni, Italian Seasoning and some yummy bread.

Put the bread in the oven to heat it up.
Put the other ingredients in a crock pot for 5 hours.

Use the bread to dip into the Pepperoni Dip....

    Kids LOVE it!

  228. I love to make homemade pizza. My husband and I split it down the middle and each pile our own topping on to our respective sides. (I'm a mushroom, pepperoni, and Italian sausage kinda gal.)

  229. How fun it is to make fresh pizza with one's family!
We have a small and medium sized cast iron skillets and would love to try the pizza pan! We have no secret recipes, but our dough recipe came from my mom. It is just the right depth and texture.
    Many thanks, Cindi

  230. My husband and I make pizza all the time and have been discussing how we should try to do a deep dish one in a cast iron skillet like Pizza Hut. I would love to try out any cast iron pan for it, though.

  231. I love making homemade Margherita Pizza (fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves) and BBQ chicken pizza with caramelized onions and roasted bell peppers! Yum! It's cheaper than delivery, fun to make and tastes delicious at home! I would love a new pan since mine sticks a little because it was cheap.

  232. I use to make the kind out of a box...not to tasty. My family LOVES pizza so I would like to try to make one!!!

  233. Folks, what I have learned is that Lodge Cast is made in America whereas; many cast iron cooking products are made in China. I would rather use Lodge Cast because of our federal product material guidelines and to support our economy workforce!
Lodge Cast is high quality and heavy.
I make my own marinara sauce with organic tomato sauce, herbs, and spices. That way, I know there are no added sugars or preservatives.

  234. We love homemade pizza, strombolis and fresh breads. It sure saves alot of money.I would love to have this pan to make it easier!

  235. We definitely love pizza at my house. I have never tried to make homemade pizza, but with a pizza pan like that I would definitely have to give it a try

  236. We love making homemade pizza! We generally do half sausage for Chris, and half ham and pineapple (or just pineapple) for the girls and me. Yum! We have one of those pizza stones, so that's what I usually use, but this looks cool, too (and probably easier to clean...).

  237. I do make pizza. I usually start with a boxed crust mix tho, so not sure you consider that "homemade". Love the ability to put on just the toppings I want in the portions I choose. Would love to have this pan to make it on!

  238. I make a Greek Pizza all the time. This pan would be a dream come true for making it.
It has Feta Cheese, artichoke, onion, diced tomatoes and Kalamata Olives. YUM!! Now i need to make one, I just gave myself a craving, lol
    [email protected]

  239. I make homemade pizza a lot. Roast some veggies (eggplant, onion, mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini) in the afternoon, then make the dough, then assemble at mealtime and it's so tasty and pretty easy. My favorite healthy dough recipe comes from Kingsolver's book 'Animal Vegetable Miracle.' It is almost 1/2 wheat flour but still tastes crispy on outside and soft on inside. I'd love that pizza pan!!

  240. We make homemade pizza's a lot. I love this recipe I got off of allrecipes.com for some fabulous crust. Yummy! I'd love to have a nice pan for once, I just had to throw some of ours out because they were "bad". Ha ha. Thanks for the chance.

  241. I just realized that I've never made a pizza, which surprises me. I really should, though, so I can have my Hawaiian or supreme style while my sister has whatever she wants.

  242. My daughter just moved into her own place and I would love to give her something like this. She's really gotten into cooking and baking since striking out on her own.

  243. My family loves pizza. Since home-made is so much cheaper, we make it all the time. I would love to have this pan.

  244. My son is a true blue pizza addict, that's all he ever wants to eat lol, and this would be great because I could try out making my own pizza's instead of the more expensive pre-made variety. And after reading the above posts, I'm curious about trying to cook pizza on the grill :)

  245. We make homemade pizza ALL the time but we make it on tortilla wraps instead of dough, to cut the carbs down. We just put the tortilla wrap on a sprayed cookie sheet, then put pizza sauce, then mozzarella cheese, then any toppings. Then we bake for 10-15 minutes at 300. Its YUMMY and much healthier than doughy pizza.

  246. I make homemade pizza once in a while. I don't have any particular recipes, but I do usually use the jiffy mix most often.

  247. I love homemade pizza! Having said that, the easiest dough I've found is the frozen pizza dough balls in the freezer section at the grocery! Tastes great!

  248. We make our own pizza with pepperoni, hot italian sausage, grilled onions and peppers and mozzarella cheese. Then we sprinkle red pepper flakes on top.

  249. My husband used to manage a pizza place. He could practically have pizza 24/7. This would allow him to make pizza at home so we could have a pizza party with friends and family.

  250. This is a great pan. I make pizza on Fridays with extra cheese and onions and peppers. I bet this pan will make my crust more crispy, the way I like it.

  251. WE love homemade pizza. I amalways trying a differnt crust. I have not hit on the perfect one yet. WE like anything on the top. During the sumer we put lots of garden veggies on it.

  252. We make homemade pizza all of the time. My kids love to help spread the cheese and sauce. I currently make it on a pizza stone but would love to try something different.

  253. We make homemade pizza about 2x a month. I get the dough from an Italian bakery. It's $1 a blob, I buy 5 or 6 and freeze them. The dough is awesome, really delish. I simply pour an 8-oz can of tomato juice onto the pizza dough that I've worked into a pizza/round shape, top with shredded mozzarella, parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, and some dried onion bits.

450 degrees til done, and I always spray the pan with a little PAM.

  254. I make pizza by placing it directly on the oven rack, however this does make a mess sometimes. I'd love to try a quality pizza pan! Thanks for the offer!

  255. This is not something I normally do. I remember the nasty package mixes and the biscuity dough tubes so I've never 'gone there'. This may help me get it together. I love weird pizza like goat cheese, roasted red pepper and shallots.

  256. I haven't made homemade pizza (unless you call store-bought crusts!) for years. I'm wanting to try again & this looks like an awesome pan to start with!

  257. After 15 long months in Iraq I will finally be returning home on Aug 10, 2009. It would be really amazing to be able to make home made pizza just the way my mother used to. Boy do I miss Pizza. Yummmmmmm.

  258. I've tried to make homemade pizza, but it never turns out right. I hope to find a good recipe from your wonderful reader here!

  259. We love pizza around here and I have been meaning to try making it homemade. I love the more sophisticated toppings as well. Four cheese is great and so is pear and arugula!

  260. We usually make home-made pizza if we eat pizza (we don't very often) - we do mostly store bought ingredients though - we don't have much time =) We do the crust mix (store brand, the one you add water etc too), then just regular pizza sauce (we don't like very much on it) -- then hubby usually puts hamburger, pepperoni, & pineapple on his side & son/me put hamburger, pepperoni, olives, and LOTS of mushrooms =)

  261. We make homemade pizza all the time. I make crust in the bread machine, my recipe calls for some whole wheat flour and cornmeal in addition to the white flour. Our toppings of choice are pepperoni and pineapple.

  262. I am currently on the hunt for a wheat pizza crust recipe!! I am looking forward to finding the perfect one and then having the time to try it out :) I have used pre-made crust when I'm in a hurry, but they just aren't as good.

  263. I'm also on the search for the perfect homemade pizza recipe. Since we haven't found it yet, we often get take & bake pizzas from Papa Murphy's.

  264. Forgot to say - my extended family swears by pizza stones... I've never used one in my oven though because the round one on hand doesn't fit with our racks.

What do you use to cut your pizza? We use an ulu or a pair of scissors. The ulu is a favourite though - no joke!

  265. I basically don't eat pizza unless it's homemade. I'm a celiac so normal pizza is off limits, and pre-fab gluten free pizza crusts have a lot in common with cardboard.

I'm big on the "sophisticated" cheese toppings too. But not stuff like pineapple (I'm allergic)

  266. I'm all about the homemade pizza Stephanie. I do have a really great homemade crust recipe for you (whole wheat!), remind me to email it to you. And, I like to use the smoked provolone from the expensive cheese case at Fry's (grate it yourself). And sauce couldn't be easier to make. Honestly. Start with one can of tomato paste and add one can of water. Throw in a hefty palmful of marjoram, a tablespoon or two of oregano, a dash of kosher salt, s dollop of honey, and some basil. Drizzle in some olive oil and crush one clove of garlic into your sauce and voila! Delicious. Don't worry about measuring, just eyeball it and use your taster. So fresh and so good. Not to mention good for you.

    Other tips:
-if you like a crispy crust (like we do) preheat the stone (or fancy pizza pan) in the oven. Then pull it out and sprinkle it with cornmeal.
-bake the crust alone for about five minutes at a high temp (450).
-Brush the crust with olive oil before you top it with sauce (olive oil and tomato products combined are super duper healthy) and it keeps your sauce from globbing.
-Be creative with your toppings. Our favorite pizza is topped with red peppers, artichoke hearts, fresh pineapple, green olives, and cilantro pesto (the pesto is put on after it bakes).

We ought to have you over for pizza sometime. It would be fun to demonstrate our homemade version!

  267. We have just recently started making homemade pizza. Although so far I have used refrigerated dough, I would like to make my own. A favorite combination is chicken with basil pesto sauce and mozzarella. Another favorite is artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. My husband prefers the traditional cheese and pepperoni.

  268. We're homemade pizza junkies around here. My dad makes the dough, and he generally cooks them in the brick oven. We often have pizza parties where everyone gets to make their own individual sized pizzas. The brick oven cooks them very quickly, so it doesn't take long even for a big crowd.
That pan looks awesome. It would be great to have around on a super rainy non-brick oven friendly day.

  269. I love homemade pizza! Oh and your daughter isn't the only one. I prefer to eat my pepperoni before its cooked too. I have been known to take a big stack as a snack!

I love cast iron and would love to give that pan a try. Lodge really has good quality cast iron.

  270. I have made homemade pizza a couple of times using Alton Brown's recipe from Good Eats (I love that man). It was good but it required overnight in the fridge. I usually don't think that far ahead. I found a couple of recipes I want to try on Smitten Kitchen but haven't gotten around to it.
I love that pan! I love cast iron in general and Lodge does a great job of it.

  271. We love homemade pizza! We try to have it twice or three times a month -- usually on Friday nights. Love this pan!

  272. I just made pizza tonight! I make it once a week...it's a yummy, economical meal. I tend to throw whatever I have on hand on the pie that my hubby and I eat, and then I always make a plain cheese for my kiddos. We use stoneware most of the time, but this pan looks pretty cool, too! I have a great, easy thin crust recipe that is made with regular white and whole wheat flour if you are interested. Let me know!

  273. Pizza is my son's favorite food! Haven't made a homemade pizza since my teens, but we buy frozen 4 cheese pizza and put whatever toppings we want. Mainly pepperoni.

  274. That pan is great! My husband and I have decided that we refuse to give Papa Johns or Dominos anymore of our money or take any more of their calories so we have started making our own, and I would love to learn how to make the dough from scratch!

  275. MMMM, we LOVE homemade pizza at our house. I am with you where I like a more sophisticated pizza. I've experimented with my sauces before; made a thicker kind with tomato sauce and tomato paste onion, garlic, basil and oregano, and have taken a fresher approach and used just canned tomato (with all of the liquid) and added salt, pepper, and fresh garlic and dried or fresh basil to that and cooked it on the stove top until some of the liquid reduced. If you don't prefer it "chunky" you can blend that up once it's heated to your liking. It's a wetter sauce, so if you're using a thinner crust (like my husband prefers, I'd recommend par-baking the crust before adding the sauce and toppings. For homemade pizza toppings, I've found that there is a difference between using pre-shredded mozzarella and taking a block and shredding your own. The latter results in a creamier cheese topping. That is an amazing looking pizza pan - sure would be quite the hit for our pizza parties. Happy pizza making!

  276. we love to make homemade pizza! I use a dough recipe that always turns out pretty well in our bread machine, and give each of my kids a small ball of dough and let them create thier own pizza masterpieces with lots of toppings to play with.

For the sauce, I posted a super simple recipe for a yummy sauce over at Pink Lemonade of Life a couple months ago..here's the link to the article that contains the recipe, it really couldn't be easier and always tasted great! http://www.pinklemonadeoflife.com/2009/04/family-fun-at-home.html

  277. Oh my gosh, that looks so delicious and it looks like you all enjoyed it! We enjoy baking together and trying new recipes but we've never tried homemade pizza but I think that may be next. Thanks for the inspiration.

  278. We love homemade pizza! I have done dough from scratch, but lately have been lazy and just use the premade stuff from Trader Joe's. It's pretty yummy... and they have a garlic and herb one. Might be a hike for you to get to one, tho...

  279. I would love to try making homemade pizza again! (I've been secretly hoping my kids would get a job at a pizza place because my attempts with the dough have been, shall we say, fail! Maybe it was the pan? ;-)

  280. My 3 year old son and I make pizza every Friday. We make the dough from scratch when he gets up from his nap and then he rolls it out and we add our toppings. Great times and great pizza!!

  281. This is my next project. I try out many "Healthified" recipes of something before I usually come up with a unique one as a keeper. I recently did blueberry muffins (it is on my site if you like) and before that was chilli. Anyways, I've been thinking I should tackle pizza crust to find a "Healthified" version that I like. I usually use a biscuit recipe that takes an egg and you can just knead it a little longer to make it a great dough. You can use muffin tins to make pizza pockets to freeze and take or eat in a hurry

  282. I'm on the hunt for the perfect dough and sauce recipe also - let me know if you find it! So far the only pizza I've attempted at home is a BBQ chicken pizza but it turned out good. We have friends that have homemade pizza night every Friday with their kids. Sounds like a great tradition to me!

  283. My kids love it when I make pizza at home. They get whatever they want on their portion of the pizza - no picking off the unwanted stuff from a commercially made pizza.

  284. I am always looking for a good pizza pan and I guess I am just to cheap to buy one when I find them because they are so pricey. This would be great to win, we love to make homemade pizzas.

  285. We have made home made pizza before but it never came out right because the crust was either soggy or burnt! Maybe this pan could save me!

  286. We often make homemade pizza. Lately we are on this "save money wherever we can" kick, so we have been making more and eating out less. We like to make our pizza and cook it on the outdoor grill, even though I'm still trying to figure out the right heat level so that my crust can stop getting so crisp so quick! :)

  287. We make homemade pizza once a week. I use my breadmaker to make a whole wheat dough, but I use store pizza sauce too. We like cheese, onion, pepper, pepperoni, and mushroom on our pizza.

  288. Joe makes homemade pizza and our favorite crust is the Jiffy Mix pizza crust, super cheap and super yummy. The normally uses canned tomatoe sause (like you would use to make your own spaghetti sauce) and then what ever he wants to throw on top of it. I love his pizza so much more than ordering in or even heating up in the oven. I actually just called him to see if he would make it tonight after I read your blog entry =)

  289. I used to make homemade pizza with my mom and little brother all the time! but we didnt have an awesomely cool pizza pan like this! we used to use our regular old baking trays! this would be amazing and would inspire me to make pizza at home again!! :)
