How We Keep House :: Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack

How We Keep House :: Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack 1Do you have a dishwasher? We did when we lived in our house (it was a nice one too), but now that we are living in an RV for a year...we don't.

We wash all of our dishes by hand and it's really not half-bad, especially since we have a Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack ($99.95). It's absolutely perfect for our family of four. We wash the dishes, put them in the very well-designed rack, hit a button, and the dishes are dry ten minutes later. It's a thousand times better than using a dish towel (and more sanitary too).

We showed it to our neighbors when we stayed at Jellystone Park Hill Country and they were awed by it. In fact, one of them ended up ordering one within 10 minutes of seeing it. She later wrote to us and said, "I wanted you to know I got my dish dryer today! I'm very excited and it fits right where I want it to be. If you hadn't invited us to see the inside of your trailer, I'd have never seen yours!"

Do you have a dishwasher? If not, do you wish you did? Why or why not?

  1. When we bought this old place, it came with a dishwasher. We were excited: It was the first time either of us had ever lived anywhere that had a dishwasher! But alas, it was nothing more than a big clunky useless (or worse) piece of plastic and metal that actually managed to making washing dishes even more of a pain that it already is:

First there is the "pre-wash/rinse" you have to do before you even put the dishes in. Then there's all the noise and lack of hot water and water pressure while this socalled "dishwasher" not only does not really get dishes clean - just the opposite - it BAKES the dirt on to the dishes!

I'd never heard of the Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack - but now I REALLY want one ASAP!

  2. I don't have a dishwasher, nor have I ever owned one. There are times I wish I had one because I'm the one that does the dishes and sometimes I just don't feel like it but no plans to buy one.

  3. Thanks for the giveaway...as head dish washer in our house (appointed by my wife) I would certainly make room for the Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack in our kitchen !

  4. This is such a neat product! We have a dishwasher, but it is really small and fills up fast and we end up having to wash a good amount of dishes by hand. This would be really wonderful to have!!

  5. I really love this! I don't mind washing dishes by hand but there is never enough room to let them air dry and I really prefer not to use a dish towel. This would make things much easier.

  6. This is the first I have heard of a heat and dry dish rack what a great idea. This would be great for my parents who don't have a dishwasher and are up in age.

  7. This is really nice and I never knew such a thing existed. We wash our dishes by hand also and this would help us get the dry dishes back into their place a lot quicker

  8. I've never heard of this before...what a cool concept-This sure would be helpful, especially when you entertain and have tons of dishes to wash.

  9. We have a dishwasher but I never, never, never use it (it seems like such a waste of water to me, though I have never checked it out to make sure I'm right). I'd love to have this, it'd make clean up time a lot faster, and besides that, it really is awesomely unique, which is right up my alley.

  10. we do not have a dishwasher, we live in a single wide mobile home and there isn't room in the kitchen for one

  11. Awesome invention! I have always rinsed dishes with the hottest possible water to get the same effect even though I know it isn't the most efficient use of hot water. Wouldn't have to do that if I had this dish rack

  12. I have never seen this before. It is a long way from the old rubbermaid dish drainers I grew up with. It would be ideal for drying things that can't be stuck in the dishwasher.

  13. Wow, I never even knew these existed! To think I've been without a dishwasher for the lat 10 years, it's impossible to keep the counter and sink clean cause the dishes are always drying! This would really help me out on a daily basis!

  14. I live at my parents' house at the moment and they have one, but I'm moving out to go to grad school and sadly, will not have one! This would be perfect for my new place!

  15. At the moment I do not have a dishwasher. The only time I wish I did is at the time of holidays, I have all my family and friends and sometimes I have at least 15 persons in the house and that is a lot of dishes, pots and Pans silverware, etc.

  16. We have a dishwasher, but I still wash quite a few pans, glassware, etc by hand. This sounds really neat - thanks for the chance to win!
    rachelsgiveaways at gmail dot com

  17. I do not have a dish washer and it is not a huge deal I just do not have much counter space so I usually wash my dishes in two cycles which is a pain, because I only have room for have to be drying on a towel [email protected]

  18. We just moved And our new home has a dishwasher, but it has seen better days. We are finding we need to hand wash just about everything. If I'm not lucky enough to win it, it's definitely going on my birthday wish list! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  19. I have never had a dishwasher and I dislike having to dry them. This would be a big help. I didn't even know they made such a thing!

  20. wow wee I never knew such a thing existed not even in my dreams, kudos to whoever thought this up and would like to try one of these out, would be better than waiting around for the dishes to dry

  21. I have a dishwasher but it doesn't work very well and I frequently end up doing dishes by hand. these days. I did not know this type of dish rack existed!

  22. this would be sooooooooooo awesome.
our dishwasher conked out about 4 months ago!
this would be better than a towel on the counter!
    tattgiff at centurytel dot net

  23. Although we have a dishwasher, I use it less than once a month. I just feel more comfortable washing dishes, glasses, pots and pans by myself. Hope we are saving some water and energy too by washing by hands.

  24. This would be a great help because non of my pots and pans can go in the dishwasher, so this would be a nice easy way to dry them...

    trippyjanet at hotmail dot com

  25. This would be great for us! We are trying to be more green so having a this would enable me to use my dishwasher less hense using less water :)

    Lyndsey.Rullman at hotmail dot com

  26. I have never had a dishwasher and I so wish I did! i would love to try this; would make my life soo much easier!
    madamerkf at aol dot com

  27. I have a dishwasher, but my granddaughter is getting married in June and they'll be living in grad school housing (with no special amenities). This would be excellent for her!

  28. I love this! I have a dishwasher, but sometimes handwashing does the job. I usually place handwashed dishes on a towel on the kitchen counter. This would be very handy!

  29. I don't have a dishwasher. We just let the dishes sit in a rack afterwards and it takes forever to dry. I'd love to try this out.

  30. We don't have a dishwasher. Most of the time, I wish we did so I could spend less time in front of the sink and more time with my family. But sometimes, I'm glad of the quiet, reflective time. So, it's a wash. :D

  31. I do not have a dishwasher, small kitchen with no room for one...and since i seem to be the only person in

my house with a pair of hands ,this would be nice to have!!

  32. There's always a few dishes that won't fit in my dishwasher. I handwash them so this would be perfect to dry them quickly.

  33. I don't have a dishwasher. I wish I did because I always end up doing dishes and I think I use a lot more water than a dishwasher would.

  34. I AM the "dishwasher" at my house. Believe me, I cook a lot, and I mess up even more. This would truly be a godsend for me.

  35. I have a dishwasher- his name is Asher and he's my husband ;). Actually, my kitchen is miniscule so I end up drying as he washes the supper dishes. For breakfast it's all my job. I wish I had a dishwasher but being Jewish I would want 2- one for dairy and 1 for meat and I would need a really big kitchen to accomodate that. One day...

  36. This would be of great use for my mom. She does not have a dishwasher and always has so many dishes to wash. This would cut her time in half.

  37. good to hear that there are others who do not nor have never had a dishwasher. I thought I was the only one! Hard well water dictates that I get new more frequently, as the lime and rust are hard on everything.

  38. I prefer not to use a dishwasher. It wastes too much water and by the time it is full enough to run it the food is thoroughly caked on and the dishes don't come clean. This product seems like a great idea. Thanks for letting us know about it!

  39. We do have a really old dishwasher that we use about once a month when dishes get really backed up! I've never heard of this before! Very cool! Anyways, we have to hook ours up to the kitchen sink and it doesn't even clean the dishes unless we run it twice, so that kind of stinks.

  40. we had one. it died. now it is a storage space for dishes. i wish we had one since washing things by hand sucks. :(

  41. We have a dishwasher. We haven't been using it to wash dishes for the past 4 or 5 years though because its one of those portable ones on wheels and it turns out to be a very handy work space in the kitchen. Thus, we wash dishes by hand. It certainly appears as if the a Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack world make things a lot easier for us.

  42. We have a dishwasher but it's not working. We use the dishwasher to store dishes, bowls, etc.
This dish rack seems really cool to try!

    alittlepieceofheaven777(at)yahoo(dot)com

  43. WE do have a dishwasher, but I do wash lots of stuff still by hand. I always thought once I have a dishwasher I would never have to wash another dish by hand. Boy was I wrong.

  44. This looks like it would be perfect for all of the dishes I have to wash by hand and especially those that have smaller openings that you have a hard time getting your hand AND a towel in to dry! Have you tried it with crystal goblets yet?

  45. I use to have a nice dishwasher like you until it broke and Now i have a better dishwasher ( Hubby ) he is fantastic at it and yes even drys them by hand and puts them away. He would just flip out you know men and thier cool gadgets he would probably go over and do my moms dishes too wooohooo.

  46. I love how you guys work together so well in such close quarters. You are really showing us all how everyone should value family and togetherness :) love this product. Never even knew they made one of these!

  47. I don't have a dishwasher. I didn't realize my apartment didn't have one when I moved in (oops!). I've thought about getting a counter-top model, but I don't want to lose the counterspace. This seems like the perfect solution!

  48. what a great idea. I have a dishwasher, but I never use the dry cycle. I do most of our dishes by hand and think this would work fantastic for our family also.

  49. This is impressive! We sort of have a dishwasher at the moment... our house did not come with one, but we got a rolling one from the hubby's grandparent's house. But we are lacking a fitting to make it work with our sink. So, it's been sitting in the kitchen for over a month and not being used! At least it's not my job to do the dishes and I guess he doesn't mind too much or he would have gone to Lowe's before now! ;)

  50. We lived in a tiny cabin for several years, and had a teeny tiny sink like that. That dish rack would have been a life-saver!
    smchester at gmail dot com

  51. I don't have a dishwasher,
    and I don't mind...
    But this dish-dryer
    is one of a kind!

    I'd love to have it,
    I like the reason,
    Of cleanliness and safety
    In all of our sneezin'!!

  52. I have a dishwasher, but wash a lot of plastic stuff that flips & catches water and doesn't dry in the dishwasher. I wonder how well this would help with the plastics.

    Thanks for the giveaway >^..^<

  53. I have a dishwasher but we dont use it every day and I think its too noisy so that drives me crazy listening to it when its running so I only use it about 3 times a week on days when I am leaving the house and I still wash all the pots & pans/some glass ware in the sink so I do my fair share of dishes, I've never heard of this dish rack and would love to try it out especially if it drys them better

    Thanks for the Fantastic giveaway

  54. This sounds like a great product!. My dishwasher broke and to get it out, I'd have to take a lot of tile up UGH! Quick dry would be a boon!

    PS when I win i'll give you my address :-}

  55. I hadn't heard of the Heat & Dry Dish Rack before but this would certainly come in handy as I wash and dry my dishes by hand too.
    Dove056 at aol dot com

  56. We have a dishwasher that came with the house that has never worked, so all our dishes are done by hand. This dish rack looks like just the thing we need. neither of us minds washing, it's the drying we never seem to get to,lol

  57. We have a dishwasher but I'm super picky about what goes in the dishwasher. We have a set of really good knives, for example, that I don't want in the dishwasher. Plus, I prefer to wash our pots and pans by hand. I actually like washing the dishes. My husband plays with our son and it gives me time to relax and think & pray about the day. I do hate drying dishes so this would be perfect.!

  58. With regard to “Miss Independent,” it is amazing how grown up children can become seemingly overnight. They blossom and begin to have their own thoughts and opinions. While it is a little sad to have them grow up so fast, it is an amazing thing to be a part of.

  59. I love this! I used to wash everything by hand when we lived in an apartment and things would get pretty stacked up! When we moved into a house and had a baby I started using the dishwasher...however, it is older and I would like to start washing things by hand again. I think I would get them cleaner. But, with the way I like to cook that would be quite a high stack of dishes...to have them all dry within minutes would be amazing!

  60. I have never had a dishwasher. I do wish I did have one to help out but my kitchen is really small and I need the space for cabinets and no way can I fit in a portable dishwasher.

  61. Wow what a great invention. I really need this because there are times we wash dishes by hand. Also, our dshwasher leaves some dishes wet. Love this.

  62. wow - who knew something like this even existed? we live in an older apartment with ZERO dishwasher (and it kinda sucks...not gonna lie.) We usually let our dishes air dry...which results in lots of water spots, which is sorta gross, but we do not have time (ummm...energy....desire?) to hand dry everything. This would be AWESOME. I want one.

  63. Ooh, I love this! I would appreciate an excuse to throw out my old gross dish rack instead of clean it.

  64. I like the idea of saving time, energy and cost on washing and drying the towels that would normally be used in drying the dishes.

  65. I have never heard of this, so I went to their website and discovered that the heated airflow dries the dishes quickly and quietly, which is great.

  66. Maybe my husband will do dishes....I won't hold my breath! Thanks for the chance to win!

    dan_jody at live.com

  67. That is a great drying rack. We have a dish washer but don't use it that often. I feel that our dishes get much cleaner when washed by hand (our dishwasher is really old).

  68. Wow what a great rack. We have a dishwasher but it is old and the dishes don't really look clean when the cycle is completed so we wash by hand... especially since we now have baby cups/dishes/etc. to wash. We currently have the cheapo rack...

  69. I am SO overdue for a new dish rack!! And i have never heard of this kind. Who knew?? You know we don't have a dishwasher (well, I AM THE DISHWASHER) so I would love to win this - it would really be put to use! :)

    Steph

  70. I live in a really old house without a dishwasher, but I don't really mind that we don't have one. When I watch people who do have one it seems like they pretty much have to clean their dishes first anyway before they can put them in the dishwasher. If they don't, they don't seem to turn out clean. Cleaning by hand gives you control over making sure your dishes are spotless.

  71. What an amazing product - I had heard these were out there but was not sure how they worked out. VERY cool! We do a mix of dishwasher and hand washing. Generally all the little stuff, plates, cups, silverware goes into the dishwasher and the big stuff gets washed by hand. this way, I feel like we're really filling up the dishwasher to capacity before running it instead of having just a few pots and pans in there. :)

  72. This is such a cool Gadget. We have a dishwasher but we only use it for pots and pans. I prefer to wash dishes by hand!

  73. We do not have a dish washer and I have never really wanted one. I don't mind washing dishes by hand.
    Thanks for the giveaway:)

  74. I think this is a cool product... my dishwasher hasn't been doing the greatest job lately and we've been having to hand wash more often so this would be great to have. Thanks!

    danielleaknapp at gmail dot com

  75. Wow -- what a great thing! We just bought an RV and I've been searching for the best kind of things to have. I think I definately need one of these!

  76. This is really neat. I have a dishwasher but never use it because it's just me and I never have enough dishes to run the dishwasher. I do everything by hand.

  77. we have a dishwasher and also generate a lot of dishes every day- I cook from scratch.

  78. We have a dishwasher, but rarely use it. I have four of them actually... one is by Maytag, the other three ar Kenzie, Peyton and Kami. I bet they would love to have this rack....lol. BTW, wondering why you are living in an RV. I'm checking out the rest of your site to find out.

  79. i well dont have a dishwaher now days and well this would be realy grate to have in aptment so that well you can wash your dishs and get done drying them fast

  80. Before I read this post, I did not know Heat & Dry Dish Racks existed. This is something I could use.

  81. This would be awesome to have! I'm always leaving dishes drying in the sink to simply keep the water from running all over the cabinet! We do have a dishwasher - but there are always hand dishes to do too.

  82. We have recently down-sized our living space and are doing most dishes by hand, despite owning a dishwasher, mainly to conserve energy. While we would use the dishwasher for large family meals, this would be an excellent thing to have for when it is just hubby and me at home!

  83. This would be great! I really need a dish rack. Now I just leave everything upside down to dry and get water everywhere!

  84. Does it run on electricity or battery? We have a dishwasher but I still end up washing quite a bit by hand.

  85. My dishwasher really stinks when it comes to drying. I usually have to dry them all by hand .. This would be so cool!

  86. Wow! I have never heard of such a thing! I'm guessing that even though it is electric, it is more economical than running a dishwasher. We use a lot of dishes during a day, though, so I imagine I would be running the dryer rack quite a bit during the day. Interesting concept!

  87. On a very serious note...we have a dishwasher but I dont use it. I am from Africa and I am so used to handwashing my dishes that I cannot bring myself to use the dishwasher. This will be very useful for us :)

  88. This sounds great! I HATE to hand wash dishes because of all the time involved. I imagine this gadget would totally be worth it, especially in an RV!

  89. That sounds so cool. We have a dish washer but there are only two of us so we do not use it unless it is the holidays. this would be great to have so that i would not have to use the dish towel to dry dishes, even though i rarely do anyway i use the dish towel to dry my hands more than anything.

  90. This sounds genius! We've actually never had a dishwasher the seven years we've been married. I didn't even know they sold dish racks that could dry as well. This would be much appreciated in our home!

  91. We have a dishwasher but many of our dishes are done by hand because the dishwasher doesn't clean as efficient as when I wash by hand. This dish dryer sounds like a wonderful idea and I would love to have one.

  92. We have an old dishwaher that leaves the dishes almost as dirty as they were, so we do the dishes as we didn't have one. Our kitchen is alway full of dishes drying, in the rack, on a towel over the counter, upsidedown in the sink...

  93. I have a dishwasher (and love it!), but my friend doesn't - this seems like the perfect 1/2 a dishwasher for her!

  94. We do have a dishwasher. It's a mini one that I so appreciate having as it does save time on washing by hand. For the times that we can't fit it all in though, this is a wonderful idea. It almost seems too good to be true so thanks for sharing that it does work. I may look into this for when we camp.

  95. Hmm, you lost me on this one, Stephanie. It seems rather expensive for having only two functions: drying dishes and storing dishes until they are dry. It is very bulky; I didn't see that it was collapsible. I'd think when RVing space would be precious. And finally, I don't really see how it is more sanitary than using a clean dish towel. The dishes are clean when they are being dried.

But then, I was 'trained' (seriously!) to wash and dry dishes by my German grandmother, who, before she got married was the chef/head of the kitchen of a large manor home. And this is what she taught me. 1) Use *very* hot water. The hot water will dry off the dish almost before the person drying the dish can get to it. 2) Wash dishes in the following sequence: glasses, then silverware, then dishes, then pots/pans. 3) Use designated dish towels. She always had a towel for glassware, a towel for silverware and dishes, and a towel for pots and pans.

I kind of like washing dishes, especially when I have a dish-dryer to keep me company. Sometimes it is one of my daughters, sometimes it is my husband. Either way it is a wonderful time for conversation!

So, you don't need to include my name in the giveaway. Clearly, the dishrack has appeal to others! I do enjoy the peeks into your RV life. Thanks for that.

    1. You clearly know a thing or two about dishwashing! I, on the other hand, am a pitiful dishwasher. Tim is much more efficient than I am. ;)

The rack is wonderful for us because it saves time. Our kitchen is very small and only accommodates 1 person at a time so we like to clean as quickly as possible. The rack helps us keep our dishes all in one spot and it dries them in just a couple of minutes (without having to use any towels at all).

It might not be ideal for everyone, but we really like it for RV living.

  96. We have a dishwasher, but rarely use it. It would take a couple of days for us to fill it up so we tend to do the dishes daily by hand. This is a great idea for small families and spaces!!!

  97. That is SO awesome! We don't have a dishwasher...except me of course! I can't believe it drys your dishes in 10 minutes! How fun is that!

  98. We have a dish washer, but it's old and we usually only use it as an extra dish rack after we hand wash our dishes. Plus, it takes a long time to fill it up with dirty dishes and when the water drains out it goes on the tile and is causing the grout to fall apart. The Heat & Dry Dish Rack looks like something I could really use!

  99. omg...how ingenious is that!? Our apartment is so ergonomically unfunctional, our counters are slanted and there is always puddles of water that gather around our dish rack...this would be awesome!!

  100. What a great idea, especially since you are living in such small quarters. We have a dishwasher but I also hand wash a number of dishes. Mostly so I don't have to run the dishwasher as much b/c I HATE empyting it. But I don't mind putting the dishes I handwash away - go figure!

  101. I love the faucet in your RV! It makes it look... more modern and traditional at the same time. We have a dishwasher, but end up washing a lot of dishes by hand because our dishwasher leaves a LOT to be desired. Alas.

  102. We have a dishwasher, but I usually hand wash about 1/2 of my dishes. I need a new dish rack (mine is split, old and ugly).

    Thanks!

  103. Cool, you are so right when it comes to dryer racks, they are not all the same. We have a dishwasher, but we do a lot of extra washing. i am tired of getting water on the counter-tops. Not to mention when we go camping we use a drying rack too. It's ok, but I can not get too many things dried at once. This one you have looks great, and also looks like it won't fall over.

  104. I prefer to hand wash my dishes as it seems the dishwasher just acts as a storage facility for clean or dirty dishes. This rack seems very cool!

  105. I would absolutely love to win this. My husband and I always have dishes sitting on our counter waiting to dry. This would make things feel so much less cluttered in our kitchen!

  106. We do have a dishwasher but it's not very good (it's old and we have very hard water which I'm sure doesn't help.) We're renters so I can't just go out and buy a better one. Regardless, I do hand wash certain items like my antique colored pyrex mixing bowls that were my grandmothers or large pots and pans that take up a lot of space in the dishwasher or are just an unusual shape. I set these on a towel on the bartop above my sink and let them air/drip dry.

I have what I like to call my "One Day" house. As in one day I'll have a house with a really good dishwasher or One day I'll have a house with space for a garden. It makes the wants right now but not possibles easier to deal with knowing that "one day" I can have them.

  107. We're RV-ers also. This product is a great idea, but it's a little too pricey for me to justify buying (only 2 of us).

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  108. I have only had a dishwasher once (when I lived with Sara, one of your readers), so I don't miss it too much. I have been hand washing dishes most of my life! I haven't heard of this type of dish dryer...I may just have to look into that. It is time to get new dishtowels...maybe I can rethink that. Ha ha! Thanks for inviting that family into your home...I so love what you guys are doing!

  109. That is awesome! I do have a dishwasher but there are always some dishes that don't fit and need to be washed by hand. I usually just throw a towel on the counter and put them on the towel to drip dry.

  110. I do have a dishwasher but tend to do many of our dishes by hand anyway. It saves on water (I turn it off while I wash all the dishes and only have it run to quickly rinse them). This dish dryer sounds AWESOME!!

  111. Our dishwasher does a lousy job of drying dishes, so a lot of our dishes end up on a rack to dry. What a great little gadget!

  112. I have a dishwasher at my house; it can take a week before I have enough dirty dishes to run it. My fiancé has one at his house, but prefers to hand wash and expects me to follow suit once we're married! He's worth it, so I guess I'll start stocking up on rubber gloves or lots of hand lotion.

  113. I've never heard of a "heat and dry" dish rack before... how did you hear about these? I'm just curious if it was something you uncovered when planning for living a year without a dishwasher, if it's an RV thing, or if you just "always" knew about them??

    1. I received a press release in my inbox about the product about 6 months ago...and I thought, "That would be perfect for our RV!" And...it has been!

  114. My brother and I were roommates in one half of a VERY OLD duplex for our last three years of college. It was awesome not having roommate issues by the way as our very seldom issues were sibling issues - much easier. One of those issues, however, was dish washing as we didn't have a dishwasher. Sadly, sometimes the dishes would be stacked in the sink. Yeah, I know - pathetic since there were only two of us. But this baby would have been so nice! After those three years, I swore I'd never live in an apt. w/o a dishwasher, and I haven't. I am now on my second DW in my house - hard water just kills them! But, I still hand wash lots of things. I'm almost as weird with my dishes as I am with my laundry. I never put pots, pans, bake ware, non stainless steel stuff, my pretty Franciscan dishes, or tupperware in there. Yep, it all gets hand washed. I've been criticized for not washing pots and pans in there, but DW's are just too hard on them. Old habits are hard to break, but I am all about preservation so I don't have to shop for new stuff. I hate shopping!

  115. We have a dishwasher, but I lived for years without one. I didn't really feel like I was missing out, but maybe that's just because I was used to it. I'm certainly glad I had a dishwasher for washing baby bottles. I'd be concerned about how sterile I could get those when washing by hand.

  116. How cool! I have a dishwasher... but lately it's been making the dishes dirtier instead of cleaner. I think it's on the way out...
