I couldn't do it without him

I couldn't do it without him 1"I could never do this trip without you." Tim and I have said that to each other about a hundred times since we started.

I happen to think it's more one-sided. As in, I couldn't do it without HIM. Without having any experience, he's already a Master RV Driver and Setter-Upper. He pretty much does everything when it comes to the outside of our 5th wheel - pulling the slides in and out, hitching and unhitching the truck, putting all of the stabilizers in place, hooking up the electric and sewer stuff (see how much I know about that?), getting diesel, dealing with repairs, etc. AND he does it all singlehandedly. If you looked up "hard worker" in the dictionary, his picture would be there. But probably not a smiling-at-the-camera shot. He'd probably be immersed in some project, w/ a tool in his hands.

I actually do wish I could help. But we both decided that one of us would need to exclusively watch the girls while the other one did the truck/RV stuff.

He also shares the load of washing dishes, vacuuming floors, scrubbing toilets, and doing laundry (partly because he would go crazy if he didn't).

I couldn't do it without him 2Other things? He sets up our non-profit projects, keeps our laptops in working order, writes posts for Give Every Day, and makes friends easily.

In addition, he has a definite charm with people over 65 (which is good when you're in the RV community). I think they like him because he TRULY values them...and they sense that. It may also be because he has a short "military" haircut and knows a thing or two about good old-fashioned manners. ;)

What else? He thinks about things deeply, differently than the norm. He isn't too proud to say "I'm sorry." He tells people the hard, honest truth. After our recent family photo shoot, we were looking through the photos. He stopped at a terrible one and said, "You look like a chub and I look like a doof." And I laughed out loud because it was exactly the right description.

I totally love you, Tim. For everything you are now and everything you will be.

  1. What a great post, and what a great husband! I have a sneaking suspicion, he would have just as many, if not more, fantastic things to say about you too! I could go on and on and on and on about my husband and what I love and appreciate, but this is your blog :) If I had to choose just a *few* things, I would say that I LOVE and am SO thankful for my husband's loyalty, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit in his life, his hard work, his provision (on so many levels), his consistency, his honesty...see, I could go on and on!

  2. I need to write a post about my hubby!! You're right there is so much to appreciate about having a great husband. What I most admire is his steadfastness. He is always who he is. I don't know how to explain it any better than that. I know that I can be moody, or thoughtless, and I feel like I'm always TRYING to be the best I can be, but my hubby genuinely IS that "best person" all the time and it seems he never tries. :) I think it's the nearly 2 decades of martial arts discipline! :)

  3. Like you, I have so many reasons for being grateful for my husband (Tim!). One reason is that he is such a fantastic father. When I watch him play with our daughter it inspires me to try to be an even better mom. He's the best!

  4. Sweet Stephanie! It's always a good thing to encourage husband love!
I love my husband for loving me so completely with his words, eyes, hands, money, time...
My husband gets up multiple times a night, most every night, to comfort a child after a bad dream, take one to potty, fix the blankets, etc. My husband gets up with them in the morning & lets me sleep as long as I can, before he leaves for work. My husband starts in on taking care of us the moment he comes home from work - holds the baby, fixes a meal, plays with kids, washes dishes - whatever. And, he doesn't complain about any of it. (Maybe just admits occasionally that life is crazy & tough sometimes!)

  5. A chance to brag on our husbands? I'll take it! It is clear you have utmost confidence and trust in your husband, or you would not be willing to take on such a life-changing adventure together. And no doubt he has the same faith in you.

We recently went through a major change event, and when the dust finally settled, I looked at my husband and said, "Thank you for your big shoulders." It was a phrase I heard Ted Kennedy's widow use in describing him after his death: he was the big shoulders of the family. And her explanation described perfectly what I admire so much about my husband, his big shoulders - both literal and figurative :) !

  6. What a great post for your husband! And when your daughters get older, they will appreciate knowing how much their parents loved each other.

I love my husband because he puts God and Family above all else. We have both turned down major career opportunities because they were not in the best interests of our family. He truly loves coming home to our family and playing with our son and has turned down "guys night out" many, many times to be home with us. He can also cook and clean and does ALL the outside work on our house. His mom is single and has a variety of health issues, and my husband bends over backwards to take care of her. He also has manners and can talk with people of all ages. I married a good one! :)

  7. I have to brag a bit. Yesterday, I woke up such a grouch. Our little guy only gave me 5 hours of sleep for the 4th night in a row. (Teething pain, I hate you.) My husband didn't have to get up yet but he insisted on making me breakfast, packing my lunch for work, filling my waterbottles, and readying all of my suppliments and juice for morning consumption. He completely changed my mood around. I was kissing him and thanking him as I left for work. Sigh. What a guy.

  8. I am very grateful to my husband for what he does to provide for us. His commute is four hours a day into Manhattan. He is gone from our home 15 hours a day. He never balks when I ask him to pick up groceries on the way home from the train. Just this week he stayed up well past midnight helping me clean the mess from our kitchen remodel which left him with barely any sleep. He does not complain and he does not seek recognition. It is because of his efforts that I have been able to stay home with my girls and now homeschool them. I cannot imagine what my life would be without him.

  9. What a precious gift you have in Tim! Yay! So happy for you guys!

Arno is my "unassuming nerd". He is so handsome and so smart. PLUS he is kind to people, always a real gentlemen...oh and since he is South Africa, he has a SEXY accent too! LOL! Most of all, he loves Jesus with all of his heart, and next to that, I am always number #1 with him. I feel like I got the WHOLE package!! Thank God for His precious grace!

  10. Your love for you husband shines and provides an example of the love and respect designed wives to have for their husbands! Thank you for sharing!
    Blessings in Yeshua HaMashiach!
    Joycelyn

  11. Stephanie, your love for Tim really shines through in this post. It seems you have married one of the very few profound men out there!
    I got one too!
He rocks! He is hard working (up late painting a rental right now, after a full day of work), loving, considerate and caring. I could go on and on.
