If I Could Be Invisible

If I could be invisible, I think I'd sneak into other moms' homes and just wonder about, watching their day-to-day routines.

I'm fascinated by how other moms "do" motherhood. Not because I want to judge them, but because I want to learn from them and because I am - plain and simple - intrigued. Motherhood is a tough business and I'm curious how other moms manage the intricacies of day-to-day living.

For example, I would watch to see:

  • Does she let her child watch TV when she needs to get things done? Or does she set up a craft station? Or does she involve the child in making dinner and vacuuming and writing thank you notes?
  • Does she pick up toys as her kids finish playing with them or just at nap time or does she have a chore chart for her kids...or are toys just all over the place?
  • Does she pre-plan dinners for the week or scramble at 5 o'clock? Or does her husband make dinner?
  • Does she have a "schedule" (play time, rest time, craft time, snack, etc.) or does she fly by the seat of her pants?

Oh, and how does she do her laundry?...

How do YOU do your laundry?

  1. Do you have a Laundry Day...or do you do laundry all stinkin' week long (like I do)?
  2. Do you separate the darks, whites, and colors...or just toss everything in together (like I do)?
  3. Do you buy the cheapest detergent...or do you have a "favorite" (like I do)?
  4. Do you wash your clothes in cold or hot...or warm/cold (like I do)?

These things are small things, but somehow I am totally interested in them.

And since we're on the topic of laundry, here are a few products that I have recently tried/discovered, that I use regularly, and/or that I like a lot:

tide_base_liquid_original_scent_small-109x150Tide (Original Scent) : Our favorite detergent. Unscented stuff isn't our thing. I like that strong original tide scent. I realize it may not be all pure and non-chemical-y and such...but that smell is the "smell of clean" to me.

product_spring_oasisPurex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets (enter to win below): Have you seen these? They're downright cool. And so easy to use. You just toss a sheet in with your wash and then throw it in to the dryer too. No need to measure, pour, or buy dryer sheets! I have to say I'm sold on the convenience factor and it smells pretty good too.

tide high performance_wash_bag_smallTide High Performance Wash Bag (approximately $5.99) : I bought this little bag for cheap at Walmart and think it's great. I wash all my bras and delicate clothing items in there. How do you was your "intimates"?

hampertote by ore originalsHamperTote by ORE Originals ($40.00, enter to win below) : Great design, don't you think? It's modern, cheerful, bold, and fun. The canvas is sturdy and the "dividers" are handy if you're the kind of person who sorts clothes into categories. It's a little smaller than I would have expected from looking at the pictures online, but it comes with a useful handle so that you can tote it from room to room with ease. I actually prefer just one big cylinder tote, but this would be great for someone who "separates" their laundry.

laundry day etsylovely artwork for my laundry room : I want this gorgeous "Laundry Day" framed piece by Sascalia {$35, found on etsy}. It's so whimsical and sweet and I love the addition of the baby buggy. You have to click on the link to see all the details. This mini square isn't doing the piece justice.

laundry room vinyl wall artvinyl wall decals : My laundry room walls really need a little cuteness, a little inspiration. Maybe a fun quote. This one would explain my "relationship" with laundry quite well: "Laundry. the never ending story..." {found on etsy, $15, by Leen the Graphics Queen}. But I also like the optimism of this phrase: "Laundry Room. Loads of Fun." {found on etsy, $17, by Janey Mac}.

WIN IT! One winner will receive a Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets Starter Kit (1 dispenser + 20 sheets) and Refill Pouch (24 sheets), plus a HamperTote by Ore Originals ($40, pictured above). To enter, leave any topic-related comment on this post prior to Monday, July 20 at midnight (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.).

*UPDATE* The winner is #165 xenia. Congratulations!

  1. I set aside a laundry day and separate the darks, whites, and colors. I buy the cheapest detergent and wash my clothes in hot water.

  2. I do laundry when I have to most of the time. I never seem to get it all put away. I need to get more organized, but I love doing contests and playing online. When I hang out my laundry, it seems to rain more often. Just my luck. I did buy the line to be more green.

  3. Ahh, laundry. My fave. I try to do one load a day, because I really can't stand to fold more than that. I sort like crazy (one too many oddly colored tops in those 'all-in-one' loads). I try to wash in cold all the time with a little Tide and one of those Wonder Balls.

  4. I've been very curious about those Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets as I've seen the commercials and wonder how they really work.

  5. I do my laundry when the pile is so high it comes to the top of the refridgerator the hamper is next to. Probably because I hate to do the laundry since we have to take it to the laundry room which has only 3 washing machines which always seem to be occupied.

  6. I just do laundry when it needs to be done. I have an HE washer and I always wash my clothes in cold water to save money and be a greener person. I love my clothes to have a “clean/just washed” scent. Thank you for such a useful giveaway.

  7. I used to have a laundry day but now it seems like it is every day. If it isn't just the normal laundry it's some emergency where something is really, really necessary right away.

  8. Thanks for the giveaway... This new Purex product is perfect to take with you on your summer vacation road trip when you know that you will have to do laundry at some point during the trip; easy to pack, and no sticky liquid or powder to contend with...

  9. I usually wash laundry on the weekends or as often as needed if I had a busy home chores week.

  10. I love the quote "Laundry. The never ending story." That truly sums it up. I would love to give the Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets a try.

  11. All during the week=). DS is in a firetruck phase- if there is no clean firetruck shirt- well a dirty one will do! DD is allergic to scents so we use ALL free and clear and no seperation here- HAH!

  12. I don't really have a particular day when I do laundry. usually whenever it gets too high is when I start a load.

  13. I'm an old-fashioned, got to be Purex, no generic for me,thank you, kind of a girl.
I have a laundry day for each type of wash (hubby's blue jeans ever Thursday, bed sheets on Mondays}.
I'm seriously thinking of put a lounge chair and my library in there because I spend so much time there.

  14. I usually do laundry all week because it seems my kids change clothes umpteen times a day.i usually separate whites and darks because i once colored my hubbies undies pink and he wasnt a happy camper..lol he said NOW WHAT IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT..haha so they will see your pink dunders who cares :)

  15. I have to admit, I really loooove the Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets (though I have to get the "Pure and Clean" ones, because they're hypoallergenic). My best friend told me about them, and I had to give them a try... and now I've introduced them to my other best friend and his family, and they love them too! They're just so handy, they get my clothes really clean, and they do still have that "clean/just washed" scent that I love.

  16. This would be one product that is worth trying, if it makes washing clothes a little simplier and the product actually does the job it would be so worth buying!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  17. Right Now I am using detergent from ECOStore USA and love it, but I sure would like to have some of those Purex 3-1 sheets for when we travel, so much easier than either buying when you're on vacation or dragging liquid or powder with you. The tote would be great for my teen too, this way she could separate her stuff for me! lol.

  18. Ugh since I sometimes feel like I am being buried alive by laundry mountain we do it all the time, we just toss, I do have faves, but I would LOVE to simplify if this works.

  19. I really dislike doing laundry. It truly is the never ending chore. There's only four us but I still end up having to do atleast 2 loads of laundry a day. I just don't know where it all comes from. Thank you!!

  20. My laundry is getting out of control. It's like a never ending cycle, and I dread it all the time. It's way past being a chore, and more like something hanging over my head. I'm always looking for shortcuts.

  21. I do laundry thoughout the week. I seperate darks from whites. I wash only the whites in hot water. I like liquid laundry detergent but I'm not loyal to any certain brand. I don't mind doing laundry but I hate the rest of the house work.

  22. I seem to be doing laundry continuously - like you, all week! ANYTHING would be a help with this, and your giveaway packet sounds wonderful!

  23. Laundry is the one chore I really don't mind. My least fav part is putting the clean clothes away. Now, my whole house could be a complete disaster, but there won't be laundry laying around anywhere. My sisters tease me about that too! They are just jealous!!!

  24. My husband does the laundry. He's very particular about the way things are folded (You can take the man out of the Army, but you can't take the Army out of the man.) I'm in charge of kitchen duties, so it works out well. We each have our regular task, so there are no arguements, no "It's you're turn!" We are each very particular about our task. He likes the laundry room organized, and has his own schedule. In turn, I am very particular about the kitchen regarding groceries, menu plans, cleaning, etc. Other household tasks are handled as needed. Those things are rarely 50/50 as some people expect them to be. That's just not reasonable. If one of us is haveing a busy day then the other fills the gap. We've been married for 17 years and it's worked out fine. I encourage other couples to set up assigned duties and also to be flexible. Wow, this turned out to be a long post. I hope my number gets picked by the random generator because it would be fun to give this to my husband. Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. I do laundry when I need to or when my daughter ( in college) runs out of socks. I also live in a small apartment complex with only one machine so that sometimes has an impact on when I do my wash but I tend to like to do a load late in the evening

  26. i usually do laundry all week long but ive been packing to move in august and its just got out of hand thanks for the chance. I have really been wanting to try the purex complete sheets [email protected]

  27. I usually throw all my laundry in together... since it's just my own, I don't have enough for any other type of load. I wash in cold water and also add baking soda along with my soap and color bleach :)

  28. I noticed the Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets on an endcap at WalMarts last time I ran in to pick up something and thought I would have to check them out later. These look like they would be particularly useful when taking bedding to the laundromat.

  29. I have seen these in the store and have been intrigued by them. I would really like to try them. They look like they would be so convenient.

  30. I usually do at least a load of laundry everyday. I love Tide original scent with downy or suavitel fabric softener. I have really been wanting to try the Purex sheets. My sister bought them and said they smell fabulous.

  31. I usually do laundry weekly; otherwise, it's when I'm getting low on outfits. Some clothes, such as delicates and whites, get separated and the temperature is set accordingly. And finally, my favorite detergent is Wisk, but it's comparitively expensive and fewer stores seem to be stocking it so I'm shopping around for a suitable replacement. :)

  32. I do laundry almost every day of the week--I separate whites, darks, and lights (usually!) and I wash my bed sheets once a week. I normally wash in cold water, and I try to take stuff out of the dryer as soon as it finishes so it doesn't wrinkle or pile up all over my house. The thing I hate worst about laundry is the lint and strings that get on my clothes and my hardwood floor when I fold it!

  33. I tend to do one load of laundry a day with an occasional extra load for that "emergency" item that's needed. In truth, my husband does a lot of our laundry. Nice fella huh?!?

The divided tote would be a great thing for my college daughter to take to school so she could sort her laundry as she throws it in the dirty clothes. Or at least I could hope so LOL!!!!!

  34. I do laundry when we get to the point that we are desperate for clean clothes. I just am NOT a good laundry person. I usually buy whatever is on sale and do not have a good established routine. Guess I need to get my act together!

  35. I try to do a little laundry all week long so that it isn't such a big ordeal on the weekend. I separate into three main piles: whites/lights, darks and a red/pink/purple load. With two girls, we have a whole lot of pink to wash. Thanks!

  36. I do laundry every day but Sunday. I find that it makes things much easier if I don't let it pile up. I am an Era detergent fan. I don't use anything else but would give the Purex a try if I won. I separate lights, darks and linens. I also wash in warm/cold like you do. Thanks for the chance!

  37. I do laundry when it needs to be done. I'm definitely getting a break now that travel baseball is over - with 4-5 games a week I was washing uniforms daily. I separate colors and wash in warm/cold usually.

  38. I have a husband and three kids, so every day is laundry day at our house. I do separate the whites from blacks (darks), as well as the reds because this color leaks into all the others.

  39. I have to do laundry every day of the week, sometimes two loads a day. I try to separate the clothes but often that doesn't happen.

  40. I do laundry twice a week, usually on the same days. I buy whatever detergent is on sale. The worst part for me is lugging the clean clothes upstairs. I wish my laundry room was upstairs.

  41. I am constantly battling piles of clean laundry that I move from bed to dresser and back again. I don't ever actually gt around to folding them, except rarely. I wish I was that mom that had a sparkling clean laundry room, with organized bins, but I'm so not!

Thanks! foxsquirrelrabbit at gmail dot com

  42. I don't do laundry! Hubby gathers the dirty clothes every so often and takes it down to the basement where the Cleaning Fairies live. They wash it, then they dry it and put it back in the laundry basket for him to bring up - all he has to do is fold it and put it away.

Really, he's got such an easy job - it's the Fairies who do all the work!

  43. I too would love to be a fly on the wall -- particularly to see how other mothers of infants ever get things done! I do separate out my laundry, I do it about once a week, it's frankly something I wish I could do more often! My fave detergent is Purex, but I haven't tried the 3-in-1 yet. And I never know what temp to use!

  44. I do laundry every stinkin day and use whatever I get on sale or have a coupon for. I separate the colors from the whites. I usually wash whites in hot water and the other stuff in cold water. Sometimes I wash some of the colors in warm if they are dirtier.

    That's about it!

  45. I do laundry about once a week of mine and my hubbys clothes but I keep my sons (17 months) done about 3 times a week.

  46. Im off Sunday- Wednesday (I work 3 tweleve hours shifts the other days) so my laundry is confined to those 4 days but usually i do half one day and half the other. Usually i sort like this:
    undies and socks
    towels
    jeans
Clothes that cant go in the dryer ( my sweats and anything long sleeved usually of mine - im really tall and cant afford to have them shrink!)
    everything else

Although at least once a week i have to do an emergency load in which case i grab a little bit of everything.

I usually buy whatever detergent is on sale, but it absolutly has to smell good. For whatever reason my bf doesnt think our clothes are clean unless they smell kinda girly so we usually end up getting ones that smell like flowers or "meadows". which is ok by me!

  47. I don't seperate unless the item is new and am sure it won't run. We use anything on sale, but I sure want to try this product

  48. Laundry's a big pain. I like to use Tide and the washing gets done once a week usually.Would of been nice if this product would of come out years ago but yay for progress and moving on.

  49. i do my laundry everyday because my husband needs his uniform cleaned. I do not seperate any clothers, i have four kids under five so thing get hectic and i dont have the time or energy. I also buy the cheapest to save money but i wash in hot!

  50. Some weeks, I do laundry a few days a week. Other weeks, I get lazy and do a lots of loads on the weekend. I love the smell of laundry detergent, if someone would just fold the clothes and put them away for me :)

  51. The laundry at my house is never ending - my kids make so much mess! I love the vinyl wall stickies and have been looking at them on several different sites, tryin to decide what to get for which room in my house! lol

  52. I do have 2 laundry days - Monday and Friday. It's miuch more manageable that way. I also like to do laundry. Gives me a feeling of satisfaction when it is done!

  53. I try to do a load of laundry a day just so it doesn't get out of control. I usually use Kirkland detergent from Costco, I'm somewhat lazy with my sorting, but I do separate lights from darks. If I can get away with using cold water I do.

    Ugh, I loathe laundry!

  54. I don't have a Laundry Day. I separate the darks, whites, and colors. I like to try different detergents each time. I wash in warm/cold.

  55. I used to use the wegmans brand, then they changed their line...so we switched to Tide. Then one day, I tried Gain and I fell in love with it!! It's cheap, smells great, and cleans everything from my 20 month old's food stains to my fiance's drywall-dust-loaded jeans from work! I am highly intrigued by the new purex sheets, and can't wait to try them!

  56. I do laundry twice a week. I seperate right before I start washing the clothes. I have used Tide on and off for years.

  57. I do laundry all week long, usually 2 or 3 loads a day. My little girl likes to "help", putting the clothes in, turning the knob, pouring the detergent into the machine. The only separating we do is whites/darks.

  58. I'm not a very organized person, so I usually do my laundry when it starts falling out of the wash basket. Then I do 3 loads, White, colors, and then black. Things seem to go well that way so i haven't tried to change that routine.

  59. I do laundry about 3 times a week,ahhhh I dislike it very much
    Soap&fabric softner nothing special

    ahdrad2932(at)msn(dot)com

  60. That cute laundry picture has inspired me to take my plain dull laundry room and make it more lovable to be in. The laundry chores will be easier if I like being in there. I'm so motivated now. Thank You for hosting a great giveaway.

  61. I don't use a dryer for a few reasons so I do laundry just about everyday because of drying time. I actually really like this method of laundry and even hang dry my daughter's cloth diapers.

I do separate but not in the traditional sense. I try to just wash towels together, I only wash diapers and cloth wipes together of course but all the clothes go together. Even new item go in my regular wash, I just use a color catcher sheet to keep the dyes from staining.

  62. I do laundry everyday. In the summer sometimes 2 loads a day because of all the towels we use for the pool.

  63. I do laundry whenever it needs to be done. I don't have a regular schedule. I LOVE the smell of Tide. I have an HE washer so I use the Tide HE. It works great and smells wonderful. I always wash my clothes in cold water to save alittle money. I also enjoy line-drying them. There's nothing better than hanging wet laundry outside on the line to dry. :)

  64. I have used Purex liquid for years. I do approx 5 to 6 loads per week. I would love to see if these smell as fresh as the purex liquid.

  65. I do all my laundry once a week. The reason for this is because I got to test out a "toy" for the electric company that measured how much electricity we used. It would tell me how many cents PER HOUR I was using. One of the things they advised was doing all your laundry at the same time so you only have to heat up the dryer once. BECAUSE I only do laundry once a week, I will have 3 or 4 loads, so I might as well separate them into colors. I only use Original Scent Tide powder (because Consumers Guide said that was the best.... 30 years ago probably - LOL). For cold water wash, I use whatever is cheap because jeans really don't get dirty. And yes, I use hot water for whites, warm water for medium colors, and cold for black or jeans.

  66. I do my laundry all stinkin' week long. It seems like we always have a load of laundry to do. I use Gain detergent and Fabric Softener. I do wash my sheets and towels in hot/cold but every thing else is warm/cold unless it specifies otherwise. I don't mind doing laundry except for whites. I hate folding socks!

  67. Love this! I am endlessly fascinated by it too. Why is that? We've started folding laundry on our bed so at the end of each night, when we want to do nothing but crawl into that bed, we manage to make ourselves stumble around the house, totally exausted, putting away laundry. But hey, the laundry gets done...most days.

  68. I hate doing the laundry. I'm not especially good at it. Even though I try my best, I always seem to miss something and mess something up. It's a totally thankless job for sure. It's even worse when there is no gratitude, but every mistake is dwelled on for days.

  69. ever since I got new HE washer my numbers obsessed 4 yr old does the laundry (he like to watch the countdown timer). He gathers, sorts and loads the washer without me - how many moms can say that?

    thanks for sponsoring this.

    2kidsblogger(at)gmail(dot)com

  70. it seems like it a never ending cycle in my house ! 3 Kids and a Hubby ,I have every day a load minimum :( nasty ,stinky Laundry !

  71. I do laundry every other week (I'm single with no kids and lots of underwear.) I separate light colors/whites/dark colors and wash in cold. I hate washing bras because I do it by hand - it's so much easier to throw clothing in the washing machine.

  72. Cute post! My washer and dryer are in the garage and it stinks to go out there and do laundry. I usually wait until no one has clothes then I do laundry for three days in a row! I just hate it!
I do separate, wash in warm/cold.
I let my kids watch some TV to get stuff done and I wish I was that organized with a weekly menu. My husband does the dinner cooking! Sometimes I wonder how we do it. We are definitely a fly by the seat of your pants family! :-)

  73. I do laundry about 2-3 times a week. Right now we are living between two houses, but in two weeks we will be in the new place and then I can go back to once a week. I don't mind laundry, it's calming. I LOVE to put it all away.

  74. We use purex to clean our cloth diapers! I do laundry two times a week - Monday and Thursday. That doesn't count diapers which is every other day, but they're simple. That laundry hamper tote looks cool!

    mommainflipflops AT gmail.com

  75. I would LOVE to try the Purex 3 in 1. Sounds like a great product!

I keep my laundry as simple as I can. I usually do it on Mondays and Thursdays (depending on the weather-I like to hang the clothes on the line so I'll switch days if it is going to rain.) I also usually only do 2 loads each of those days-lights and darks and if the loads are too big I'll come up with a 3rd load. I only wash with cold water using the cheapest detergent I can find :-)

  76. In an ideal world, I would do a small load of laundry every day so I could stay ahead of it. But in reality I do laundry about once a week, and it takes hours. My problem is that I live in an apartment without a washer or dryer (or hookups for either, even if I bought them), so I have to be ready and willing to go to the laundromat. It's such a hassle! Right now we're saving for a house, so hopefully I'll have my own laundry room sometime in the near future!

  77. I have mountains of laundry in the basement during the week and spend catch-up on weekends getting it done. I swear it breeds while it's down there. I never separate anything except delicates and putting away is my least favorite part of laundry. We sometimes live out of clothes baskets during the week. Oh and socks...can't stand pairing socks. Those always live in the laundry basket and never get paired; you have the play the "sock quest" game when you need a pair. I have 3 or 4 favorite laundry soaps that I swap out weekly.

  78. I have been totally intrigued by the Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets!

For me laundry is a beast I am always trying to tackle. With 7 family members we have a LOT of dirty clothes. I have 4 different types of loads that I do..Whites, delicate dark, delicate light and regular wash.

  79. 1) We do laundry "as-needed". We're currently cloth diapering which means that the machine is going at least once every day - we probably do somewhere between 10 and 15 loads a week. It's not just my chore - my husband often does the laundry.

    2) We separate. When we designed our bedroom I made sure there was a place to put multiple laundry baskets. As we take things off, we toss darks in one, whites in another, and things-that-have-been-worn-but-are-too-clean-to-wash yet in still another. I know it's time to wash when the laundry basket gets full (or we start to run out of underwear or something)

    3) We buy everything free detergent. The scented products trigger my allergies (and aren't supposed to be good for cloth diapering anyway). We use a liquid soap but I think that's a holdover from the blissful days when we lived in an apartment and had front loading washers (not high-efficiency though). Four loads at once! Sometimes we add oxyclean or bleach to the mix, depending on what we are washing.

    4) Warm/cold, mostly. Sometimes hot/warm.

You didn't ask but my ultimate laundry dream involves a two sets of stacking washing machines and dryers. All front loading. I can't quite decide if I want one set to be one of those combination washer/dryers (then I wouldn't have to remember to come back and flip laundry... that would be really fun!). If only money were no object, right?

In the meantime my husband has been thinking about getting the washing machine to phone me when it's done. Now that we are doing laundry so often he may actually get around to making this work!

  80. With a toddler and a pre-teen, I am doing a load every day. We used to have many laundry related problems (such as "mom, I have no socks!") but changing out routine to daily has helped. Thanks!

  81. My husband does the laundry-has for years. He does laundry every Friday. He does separate darks from whites, etc. We do have a favorite detergent, although I am intrigued by this new Purex. He does the laundry in warm water. Thanks!

  82. I wash clothes once a week. I'm not much of a sorter either, it all goes in together. Would be easier to just have to do one thing to wash and dry the clothes.

  83. I separate my laundry into darks, whites and towels. If I have some better black items, I will wash them separately in cold water to prevent fading.

  84. You would have such fun if you were invisible at my house. You would see that the kids are big into crafts and will trade you candy for fruit. My son is a big help with laundry and my youngest daugther can make a salad that makes carnivores hungry, the oldest daugther keeps everything "hot stylin" in the house.

  85. I do laundry every day! My boyfriend works two jobs, and therefore, two uniforms. My son thinks he needs to change clothes a few times a day. For only having 3 people in our household, I don't think we should be doing so much laundry.

  86. I almost want to answer all your questions, but I got too much to do or I totally would...

    1. I make the laundry baskets up, and he does them, then I fold it because he can not fold anything for his life!
    2. I used to be anal about this. i gave up, because my clothes look the same as before. My step mother is beyond anal about every thing laundry wise. There's 3 people at her home and she does laundry constantly. She used to get mad at me for throwing all my clothes together. It drove her crazy.
    3. My favorite is ALL small and mighty in the blue bottle. It's the stain lifter one. It works, I can find coupons for it a lot, takes up barely any space, and it's cheap.
    4. I do them cold cold. but, he does them in hot hot or warm. That's how my clothes get shrunk to baby sized clothing.

    Now I will stop rambling......

  87. I do laundry every other day. I do at least 2 loads sometimes more. I have tryed the Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. And I really like them.

  88. I think the worse part of laundry is gathering up all the clothes and sorting them!

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    email in blogger profile.

  89. this is crazy but i love to wash and wash every day.i look for things to wash to try and make a full load.i have tried every detergent known to man but not this one.

  90. I don't really have a day when I do the laundry. WHen I was working, I did it on the weekend but now I do it when the basket is full. I love not having to do it on a certain day.

  91. After dozens of years of house work, I no longer have a routine, just get things done when they need doing, that's it.

  92. I do laundry when I have enough for full loads. I use cold water and do the task when we're in off-peak hours for power use. I use whatever liquid detergent I get the best deal on. I separate items by color, and if enough of each, by weight.

  93. Im not bothered by the chore of laundry. I just got a new washer - an electrolux and it's SO awesome. I love the fresh from the line smell and Tide is my favorite too, even though I use Mrs. Meyers as much as possible :)

  94. I'm not as good about doing laundry as I should be. I probably wash and dry some things that shouldn't be washed and dried. I tend to split my laundry just into darks and lights and wash as rarely as possible.

  95. laundry is not that boring chore if you take folding it out of the process. The only reason, I fold laundry is so I don't have to match socks at 6 am before leaving for work. I would love to win this prize.thanks

  96. Now that my family is grown, laundry day is whenever the hamper gets full enough for a load. I must admit that the thought of throwing all colors in together really bothers me (my grandchildren do that, and then wonder why their whites look dingy!).

  97. I have been wanting to try these for awhile now. Thanks for the chance. I hope this works as great as I hope it does. What a fantastic idea.

  98. With only 2 of us in the househol now, I only do laundry once a week. Sort, wah and dry-easy now!

  99. I do my laundry when I get enough for that color load (yes, I separate it :)) I cant stand having piles and piles to do at once so I stay on top of it

  100. I buy fragrance free liquids because my hubby has skin issues. I wonder if I could use the Purex sheets. Thanks!

  101. We try to limit laundry to once per week to save on the water bill. I have heard great reviews about these Purex sheets - Can't wait to try them!

  102. I do laundry every day. If I miss a day because of a big day at work, I feel like I'm totally behind the 8-Ball til i get it done. I usually do it right before breakfast when everyone is done showering, and the bathrooms are done being used.

  103. I like to do laundry almost every day - a load or two a day washed, dried and put away - that way it doesn't build up too fast!

Oh and I'm so with you on the whole being invisible thing... I really do wonder how some women get it all done!

  104. I do all of our laundry on Mondays of every week. I always use Tide, I think just out of routine. But I'm open to trying new products as well! Thanks for the giveaway!

  105. When I do the laundry, which is usually 3x a week, I like to separate darks, whites, and colors. I also like to wash my clothes in cold water so I will not have to worry about anything shrinking. :)

  106. Laundry is actually the one chore I don't mind doing. I even like folding. It is the putting I cannot stand so it sits around in laundry baskets forever. I LOVE the scent of clean laundry! I usually do it during the week.

  107. we just got a new washing maching- and its a he- I am in heaven- seriously folks- I had dealt with washer hell for ten years plus of flooding washers and too cheap to buy a new set when my sanity could have been saved alot sooner....these new washers are amazing

  108. My laundry habits have changed over the years. These days I wait until the basket is full and then just do it all together regardless of color. (Ok, so I do notice whether there is something new that may bleed color and keep it separate.)

  109. I do laundry just about every day. My downfall is leaving laundry in the dryer and letting it get wrinkled:(

    mscoffee77(AT)juno(DOT)com

  110. Laundry is a never ending chore in my house. I have four children and my youngest, 4, seems to think he must change his close at least twice a day. I don't mind the washing and drying and folding, but the putting away is torture for me! I am so glad that my kids, ages 6 and 4, are now old enough to help. My husband doesn't mind putting things away if they are folded!

I really need to become more disciplined to get a few loads done everyday, I generally do a few loads every few days!

  111. Well, I do have a specific laundry day, Saturday. I do all my "chores" on Saturday so I can relax on Sunday before returning to work. I always use cold water to save on energy costs and I do separate my laundry. Oh, and I never buy anything that can't be washed and dried at home.

    Thank you. :-)

  112. I just do it as it needs to be done. Some days I'm more enthused and do heavy things like the blankets

  113. My husband and I moved into an apartment building before we had kids on condition that he does the laundry (at his parents) 4 kids later we're still stuck in our apartment and my dear hubby spends his saturday or sundays nights hanging out with his parents and doing laundry. I do the sorting (colors, cold wash, delicates...) and pretreating and he has actually learned pretty well what has to be hung and not. I hate not having our own washer dryer and having to buy tons of clothing for our kids since laundry day only comes around once a week and twin babies go through a lot of clothing. We're looking to move and I don't know what my husband wants more- bedrooms or the washer dryer?

  114. My apartment is an old converted house, so we have no space for a washer/dryer. I let the clothes pile up, then make a weekly trip to the laundromat. It's tough, especially with two kids, but i've come to enjoy laundry day. We usually sort the clothes there, then walk down to the different shops in the shopping center to check things out. It gets us out of the house, and my 8 year old really digs separating the laundry. My one year old likes to play with the warm clothes from the dryer. I wash everything in cold, except for the towels, and I use whatever soap is on sale that week.

    Thanks for the contest!

  115. I hate laundry. But one thing that has SAVED MY LIFE, is my laundry hamper.... one of those with 3 compartments! I don't dread laundry (as much) anymore! I separate it.... darks, whites, and colors, and when one compartment gets full, I bring it downstairs and wash it. I love it! I used to dread laundry day. I would wait until we were literally out of clothes, and then I'd take it all downstairs and throw it in piles on the dining room floor. It would always be at LEAST 5 loads, so it would be in 5 huge piles on the floor until I got to it. Having the 3-compartment hamper has saved the day.
And I actually make my own detergent. :)
    And I wash in warm/cold.

  116. I think that our laundry seem to be the same, everytime you put (like I do) I was already thinking that was what I do. I just started trying to have a laundry day because my fabulous suzy homemaker friend has a laundry day and her house always looks amazing so I decided to try out her schedule for a couple of weeks. It is only on week one so I will have to get back to you on whether it works at my house.

  117. Thank you for sharing your fantasy about wandering invisibly through the homes of others looking for answers to day-to-day problems. What an insight it would be to learn how others confront
    the battles we all fight.

My mother used Original Tide so inevitably I use it as well with complete satisfaction.

    Thank you for the contest.

  118. I have a Laundry Day. On Tuesday Nights I wash Avery's Diapers. On Saturday OR Sunday (Depends on how busy the weekend is for us) I do all of our laundry. Lights, Darks, Towels, Diapers, Sheets. and once a month Comforter. It's very well maintained and we don't go through a whole lot. It's just 3 of us, and Now daddy works all day again so It should be easy!
I really just buy whatever detergent is on sale. I have yet to try these Purex 3-in-1's and I can't wait!
I wash in Cold OR Warm/Cold. Diapers get Hot/Cold!!

  119. I do laundry as needed- I hate having dirty clothes all over- so even if I only have enough for a very small load I 'll do a small load- I always fold my cloths as soon as they come out of the dryer- I know people that just take clothes out of the dryer and pile them up until they feel like folding them. UGh I could not face a mountain of clean wringkled laundry to fold-

  120. I mostly do laundry all week, or when the need arises. I separate--how can you not? and I use the same detergent I've used for the last 10 years.

  121. I do laundry all week long. It's the only chore I like, so it's the only one that's always caught up! I separate by colors and use whatever detergent was on sale.

  122. Let's see - I do the laundry a couple of times a week at least, I separate whites & colors and in our family there is a red load (daughter's school colors, so everyone has a ton of burgandy-colored stuff), I was always a Tide fan, but have been switching recently in search of the perfect scent (currently landed on Cheer), and I wash everything except towels in cold... whew!

  123. I do the laundry everyday and I have to separate white, darks and colors. I love Arm and Hammer with Oxy clean. I do mostly with warm water.

  124. i only do laundry on weekends..and it has to be folded and put away the same day. I am a little OCD about it. i dont like looking at clean laundry sitting in the closet ..or my hubby picking out of the clean basket. it has to be picked out from the drawers!!

  125. What I would give to have my own washer/dryer! We live in an apartment and share one washer/dryer with the three other apartments. Surprisingly it works very well - we never have to wait for each other. That said, I do laundry at least twice per week, sometimes more if needed. I can pump out 2-3 loads in just a few hours. I usually try to separate darks and lighter colors, but it doesn't always happen. I do whites when there is enough to warrant a full load, otherwise, in they go with the lighter colors. I almost always wash warm and rinse cold, unless doing a load of white, then hot/cold.

I always use Tide with Bleach and Bounce dryer sheets. I LOVE the combo. The detergent works fabulously and smells great. The Bounce finishes off the job. This has been my favorite combo since I moved away from my parents. This combo also works fine for my children's clothes.

If we had our own machines, I would probably do laundry every day!

  126. I wish I separated dark/whites but it takes enough work to get the laundry done without adding more steps. Sometimes I'll do it but usually I don't. I usually buy whatever detergent is on sale but my preference is for Gain. I just love the scents and we're definitely into scents in my house. I bought fragrance free when my allergy-ridden nephew was visiting and when I pulled the stuff out I wasnt even sure I washed them. I don't like that. Thanks for the chance to win, I'd love to try this product!

  127. I do laundry when I absolutely have to..I keep putting it off. But I can tell you the 3 in 1 sheets has made laundry day easier, no more toting the bottles to the laundry room. Love the sheets.

  128. Laundry at our house is done on an "as needed" basis, not necessarily on a given day each week. My husband is good at starting our laundry, especially his clothes, but not so good at folding and putting away. I usually end up picking up where he left off and finishing our laundry as well as our two youngest's laundry. Our older boys (11 and 14) however, do their own laundry and have been for quite some time. That saves time on my part, but I do have to remember to remind them...or, as happened this week...they learn the hard way when they want something to wear and it is dirty! My favorite detergent (because it gets the job done the best!) is Tide, so I usually spring for it no matter what, unless I am able to get some free detergent somehow with coupons or something. So that's a peek into our laundry routine!

  129. I would love to do the same thing as an Invisible Woman!
I do laundry when I need to. I don't really have a schedule. Of all the household tasks, I have never really had an issue with laundry. I just do it and put it away. We rarely have piles of clean or dirty laundry and for some reason I am not overwhelmed with this task.
Isn't it nice to be able to admit you don't have an issue with something!! Now if we were talking about cleaning showers or mopping, that would be a different story! ha

  130. I can only wish that my family could go an entire week without me doing laundry. I do at least one load a night, sometimes more depending on what got done the night before. Folding...now that is a different story all together. I hate putting clothes away, and hate folding them too.

I use Tide with Bleach...always have. LOVE IT! It works on cabin dirt that has been ground in beyond belief! Plus, Boo has some sensitive skin, and this does not make her break out.

    Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

  131. I have been wanting to try that. I usually use melaluca (from an online comapany) that is non toxic! I love it!

  132. This would be great to have, my dad often never uses softener or dryer sheets, this would help him to it more easily.

  133. Weekly?? OH the horror. I couldn't imagine doing laundry once a week, I would have nightmares that dirty clothes were planning a mutiny and would attack me while I slept.
Seriously, I do laundry every single day. I would have to spend a whole day doing laundry from the moment I got up until the wee hours of the next morning if I didn't do it every day.

My favorite detergent is always Tide Simple Pleasures with the Downy Simple Pleasures fabric softener. But I have been looking for the new Purex 3 in 1 since Purex is my next favorite and these would make my life sooooooo much easier. (So far the stores here have not had them, although Walmart says any day now...fingers crossed)
    [email protected]

  134. I'd love to win this, my fiance doesn't help me at all around the house and the convenience of the 3-in-1 would give me a few extra minutes on the couch! Thanks for the chance to win!

  135. I cold wash all of my clothes and I wish we were organized enough to have a laundry day...but it ends up being that we do laundry when the hamper is overflowing or when one of the kids decides that they NEED a jersey/tee/jacket the next day.

  136. I do laundry 3-4 times a week, it seems a lot more in the summer due to beach towels, more showers, changing clothes more often, this looks like a great new product

  137. I have issues with the length of time it takes from start to finish. I don't mind doing the work - face it, the machines do the work. But it's challenging to devote enough time to complete the task. I like early morning for a start because life shows up.

  138. about our laundry... i do it when it needs to be done. no set days around here. i am very good about washing, folding and putting away my boys' clothes, but am AWFUL at putting away my own. you see, i don't mind washing and folding, but something about putting it away... i just get stuck and it sits folded in the basket. then i wonder where the basket is when i am ready to take the next load out of the dryer. oops! as for laundry detergent, we use unscented, dye free and only one particular brand. two reasons for this... my husband can't take the smell of strong detergent ~ he can barely walk up that aisle at the grocery store. the other reason is that my youngest has broken out in rashes when i have switched detergent. so now i am nervous about switching. what will i do if my brand is discontinued? hoping i won't have to find out.
now for our day-to-day... we definitely have a routine. it works for us.
about tv... personally, there are many other things i'd rather do than watch tv. i'd also rather my kids be doing something other than watching tv. that said, i do let my kiddos have a snack and watch tv/movies while i am in the shower before they take their naps. that half hour of tv lets them have a snack and wind down before naps. we are up and moving pretty early (breakfast, exercise, park, bikes, playing, errands, etc.) so they go down for naps around 11 or 11:30. we also have ocasional "dinner picnics" where we put our picnic blanket on the floor and have dinner, a movie and dessert or popcorn.
i am more organized with grocery shopping when i plan meals for the week. i also plan meals/shopping according to grocery store ads. we usually eat dinner with my brother and his family a couple of times a week so we try to plan those dinners ahead of time or based upon what we both have at home. we are so lucky to have cousins who live really close... they are our built-in playdate a few times a week : )

  139. I do like the Purex sheets although I am a Tide girl, too. Switched to the Tide Free and Bounce Free because Roo has sensitive skin... I miss that smell!

That hamper is really great. I need something like that, maybe I could get everyone to sort their dirty clothes.

  140. So many questions!! I do laundry once a week. I make my husband do his own, too. (As I typed that I realized that I am a lousy housewife. I make him make most of the meals, do his own laundry, do the dishes. What do I do around here?) I sort my laundry the day of and do three loads: whites, darks, and bright colors.

We use Tide because I have had an allergic reaction to a couple of other brands. I'm super curious to try those Purex 3-in-1 sheets because lugging detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets up and down all the stairs is a pain in the rear!!

  141. if you could be a fly on the wall in my house, you would fly as fast as you can out the back door! :)

my boys run crazy (and loud!) and there are toys in every single nook and cranny. We definitely fly by the seat of our pants, which is not necessarily a good thing! (I need an intervention!)

The only thing I do have a handle on is laundry. I love to do laundry and have clean clothes. I have one of those sorter things and then everyone has a separate basket once clothes are clean and folded. (or sometimes not folded)

  142. First, can I come with you??

    1. I do laundry when it needs to be done. Sometimes that's often, other times it's once a week or even a little later than that (until we run out of undies...).
    2. I separate adult clothing into darks, mediums, and whites, but I toss all the kid stuff in together unless it's brand new.
    3. I buy cheapo detergent, but I'm with you; I like a good smell. Hubbs does not, however, so I have to choose kind of wisely.
    4. I tend to do cool. We have hot, warm, cool, and cold settings.
End note: I wanna win. Please. I don't think anyone else has asked this way. So please. :)

  143. I do laundry whenever I have the time - which is usually about once a week - and then it sits on my couch waiting to be folded until the next time I have "extra" time on my hands! I am a sorter, and DH and I have 3 hampers in our rooms: Whites, jeans, and everything else. I'd love another sorter though, so that our "everything else" pile could be separated too! Thanks.

  144. I do laundry on Monday and Friday! I actually don't really mind doing laundry too much. I have a method and stick to it so it doesn't overwhelm me. Plus I like doing it at the beginning and end of the work week so I don't have to feel like I am "working" on a weekend.

The thing I am struggling to figure out now with two girls is when to clean the house. I like to do it when they are awake so that I have "me" time when they nap, or at night. But...it is hard with a two year old and a newborn to clean the house. I'll have to see others comments to try and figure this all out. :) Thanks

  145. Since the girls came along we've been pretty consistently using All Free and Clear, but I recently tried out the Purex 3-n-1 too, and I loved it. I've tried a couple of the scents and thought they were both great, but that could be b/c it's so different from the unscented detergent we're used to!

I'm constantly doing laundry, and I don't mind washing/ changing out laundry, but I HATE folding!!

  146. Ya see, the thing about Laundry is...

It's a thankless Job.. YOU do it... You fold all the wash and BAM before you anyone can say

"Gee Mom, You washed my filthy jeans.. YOUR the Best!" or "wow Honey.. My Boxers are so White!!!!" The Laundry hamper is piled to the Ceiling! What is that all about???

I love anything that can help me in the laundry room!!

Thanks so much for the chance to win the Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets Starter Kit (1 dispenser + 20 sheets) and Refill Pouch (24 sheets), plus a HamperTote by Ore Originals!! Now I KNOW someone is LOOKIN' OUT FOR MOMMA!!! hahha

    Many thanks!
    Leslie

  147. Laundry is one household chore that I enjoy doing. Not the folding and putting away, so much. But I have fun sorting out the dirty clothes into different loads, and I find satisfaction in getting one load after another cleaned and dried.

  148. So glad to see someone else wondering about other moms...

I usually do laundry on the weekends, but have been known to do a load or three throughout the week... depending on the week!

I am really OCD about separating... whites, lights, blacks, darks, and towels... My husband actually shrinks a little when I do this because of the water it wastes and time it takes.

I have a favorite detergent for my husband and I, but I just recently bought the Purex laundry sheets for my 9 year-old. Why did they not market these things for mothers of kids who do their own laundry? My son has a really hard time measuring the detergent, so I always had to do that for him. These sheets make it possible for HIS laundry to be HIS chore!! LOVE THEM!

And... I wash everything but towels and sheets on warm. The towels and sheets get hot water.

  149. I usually procrastinate doing laundry until pretty much everything we own is in the hamper and then it takes me all day (or more!) to do. I keep planning on having a specific day but it never seems to work out as planned...

  150. I do laundry on a daily basis! Some years ago, I experienced some depression and my laundry piled so high, that I thought I would never get it finished! Lesson learned. I like Tide, All and am planning on trying these Purex Sheets! We like scented in out family. Many thanks, Cindi

  151. I do laundry on Monday's and Thursday's only (unless Monday is a holiday, then I do Tuesday). Without this rule, I was ALWAYS doing laundry. I do hang up some to dry, so that gets put away the next day. The clothes I do dry get folded and set on the kids beds for them to put away.

  152. Life in our house - I get up around 5:30 or 6am for mom time and the girls get up around 6:30 to 7:30. We relax in the living room with breakfast. I get them dressed and I leave for work at 7:45am. Dad watches them until 8:30 when he takes them to work. On the weekend around 8:30ish I get the house cleaned while the girls do whatever (including watching TV). I don't set up crafts for Mikayla it is playtime. If it is nice I try to send everyone outside to play. Lunch is 11ish or when everyone needs to eat. After that it can be running errands, library, play time, pool time, whatever. In the evenings, everyday of the week, we have a snack, and then Lily eats her dinner around 5:30 (this is my job), I also straighten up the house. I am always straightening up the house. Dad gives the girls their bath and he also cooks dinner. Lily is in bed around 7pm and Mikayla at 8ish. After Lily goes to bed we eat dinner at the kitchen table together.

As to laundry I do it as it needs to be done and I make my own laundry detergent.

  153. Ugh...laundry is the chore I dislike the most...not so much the washing and drying, but the putting away. But I have put laundry on my cleaning schedule. I do it on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. And I do separate all the laundry according to color. With it being summer and us at the pool almost every day I have had to add in a few extra loads of towels and bathing suits.
I too am totally intrigued by other mom/wife daily life. Just to see how they handle all the little and big things we have to accomplish each day.
I also meal plan according to what is on sale to save money and I just can't really grocery shop without a plan. When I try I just wander all around the store.
We also follow a semi-schedule(granted I only have one child who is 21 months) but I still like to have a plan for the day. And we only occasionally turn the tv on during the day. Maybe about an hour a week for him if any at all. Once he is in bed hubby and I will watch tv some nights.

  154. I do laundry throughout the week. My older kids are in charge of their own laundry (mostly) so there is always a load going.

I'd love to try the new 3 in 1 sheets. I'm curious about them.

  155. I just do laundry when it needs to be done... which is regulary. Altho, in our last apartment we had a small washer and dryer, which really meant a couple loads a day. Now that I have a larger one, I can go longer! But all that doesn't include the cloth diaper washing, which is every other day... And I try to hang my clothes on the line (speaking of which, I have a load in the washer that needs to go out, but it's SOOO hot!).
Other things I do... I meal plan according to what is on sale each week. It makes life a little simpler when I am trying to figure out what to make. I usually do 4 meals a week and then we eat leftovers in between. I don't really like making meals that don't leave leftovers. I want to be able to reap the benefits of cooking a home cooked meal for longer than one night!
What else? I am also intrigued by what other moms and wives do to keep home. I wish I were better. I wish I were a little more perfectionist when it came to housekeeping. I think my husband would like that too! But... it gets done, and I would like to think that I am getting better each year. :)
