Pleased to be a Maytag Laundry Ambassador

Here's the rundown on laundry in our house.

  • FREQUENCY: 1 load per day or a few loads every other day
  • DETERGENT: Tide Original or Tide Sport
  • BLEACH: Rarely - but we do bleach our white sheets from time-to-time
  • DRYER SHEETS: None
  • CHIEF WASHER: Tim
  • CHIEF FOLDER AND PUTTER-AWAYER: That would be me.

Mom Central recently sent me a congratulatory email to tell me I've been selected to be a Maytag Laundry Ambassador, which means I'll be receiving and reviewing the Bravos XL HE Top Load Washer with PowerWash System and the Bravos XL High-Efficiency Electric/Gas Steam Dryer.

Over the next few months, I'll be writing several posts to give you the inside scoop on these high-powered (but also efficient + green!) machines. I'm particularly excited about the Wrinkle Prevent and Refresh Steam Cycle options on the dryer because I am sometimes guilty of leaving the clothes in the dryer after it buzzes, despite my best intentions.

Who does the laundry in your house? What detergent do you use and why?

* I wrote this post participating in a Maytag Moms Dependable Laundry Ambassador program by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Maytag. I will be provided with a Maytag washer and dryer set to facilitate my review.

  1. Congratulations - that's a nice looking washer and drier! Mine are about 14/15 years old and the washer is starting to rust (ugh!) I do all the laundry and we use Tide too. I've tried other detergents but I haven't been happy - some leave the clothes dingy looking, others I don't like the smell of or they irritate my husbands skin. I hang dry most of my clothes and the kids clothes - put them on a hanger, hang them out on the line in the backyard when it's nice or on the shower curtain rods and door frames when it's not. Simply hang drying everything has helped with not having set-in stains and not having our brights and darks fade and get worn looking.

  2. Congrats to you! I was tempted to sign up for that campaign, but I have industrial size/strength stuff and even though it's not new I think we'll keep it! ;)

  3. I do the laundry - mainly because I'm the primary stay at home/child caretaker. I also prefer to do the laundry because I hang to dry about half our wardrobe and my husband has no real interest in having to sift through the wet laundry before putting it in the dryer. We use All Free and Clear. It has no perfumes and no dyes. It also has no optical brighteners (which were/are a no-no when washing my husband's work uniforms.) I also use vinegar in the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener.

  4. that's so awesome! I'd love a new washer/dryer set...we bought ours at a garage sale--but I think they'll need to be replaced soon. I do the laundry...my husband has shrunk too many items so I decided to take it upon myself and do it all! :) I use the free and clear purex detergent (because its usually the most affordable) and I have uber sensitive skin so I prefer no dyes or smells.

    1. I actually LIKE strong scents for laundry detergent. We've tried other brands, but we always end up coming back to Tide.

That said, I could probably be convinced to switch to a more "natural" option if a compelling case was presented.

  5. Congratulations!!! That's so exciting! I get excited about home appliances the way kids get excited when they see Mickey Mouse for the first time!

We use Tide Free & Clear for the front loader machines. Chris and I usually split the laundry work 50-50, but lately he's been doing more of the work since my arms are filled with my baby!

Are you using cloth diapers? We haven't made the jump to cloth but I'm curious as to other's opinions.

  6. Congrats! I am a #MaytagMoms too! Very excited to try out these slick models as what we use is old and crappy :)

To answer your questions I do all the laundry - well Hubby does his sometimes. And we don't use any store bought detergent - the more natural the better.

  7. Congrats and how exciting! I'm really looking forward to hearing how you like the washer and drying. Mine are getting old and when I do get new ones, which will be soon it t very well might be the MaytagBravos XL HE Top Load Washer with PowerWash System and the Bravos XL High-Efficiency Electric/Gas Steam Dryer if I can scrape the money together.

    Enjoy!!!

  8. AWESOME!!! How incredible is that?! Enjoy it and I look forward to hearing more! I try to do laundry Tuesdays and Fridays. I was doing a load every day, but was feeling like I was drowning in it. Now if I have two days a week that are designated laundry days it doesn't seem to be the ONLY thing I do. :)

  9. Good for you!! So exciting to get a washer and dryer set!! Woo too!! Laundry at our house: in Thailand, right now, I'm OVERJOYED to have a euro style (read that "small") washer and we hang on a drying rack, like everyone else here. I hand wash (for six!) a LOT while we travel (a rubber ball is the best universal sink stopper ever!) and I'm not above paying for local laundry service like we did in Guatemala last winter! Once upon a real life, when we had our own house, I had this fancy-schmancy washing machine that washed AND dried in the same drum... put it in dirty, take it out clean and dry. THAT, I loved. But then, we sold it all and went traveling, which I love more! :) Congrats on the ambassadorship!

    1. You always have a way of bringing "perspective." Thank you for that.

Also? Trading "stuff" for "travel experiences" is a good trade. I commend you.
