Once upon a December

Once upon a December 1I'm sitting in the RV - on the air mattress in the master bedroom, wearing an Aeropostale sweatshirt. My unwashed hair is pulled back in a ponytail.

The flimsy accordion door doesn't mask the sound of Tim in the main room, reading "The Three Bears" to two wiggly girls.

Now, he is calling out in mock despair, "I'm getting squished by two princesses!" They are giggling (the girls; not Tim - he would want me to clarify that).

I can't write. Not here. Not now. With so many distractions...that I want to be a part of.

  1. Wow! What Analise wouldn't do for a princess getup like that! Your girls are lovely...like their mama...and I love that you spent time giggling, getting squished and enjoying those moments. The computer will always be around, these young years won't!

When are you taking off? Are you going southeast first? Do tell of your new plans...I was looking forward to meeting you soon...although this is our rainy wet season...so heading east may be a better idea...although...Santa Cruz is pretty nice all year long...although.... :-)

    1. We're hoping to hit the road around January 10th. San Antonio, TX is our first stop and we'll head east from there. We'll have to catch up w/ you next fall/winter (can't wait). :)

  2. It is hard to focus when you hear so much fun happening in the next room, but sometimes for me, that is the best time to sit back and "watch" the fun. Sometimes my babies just want that all alone jump on Daddy time, and I love serving as the observer.

  3. I love listening to my husband playing with our son! I always want to join in, but sometimes I stay just out of range to relish the sound of their combined laughter.

  4. I have a hard time resisting the fun of play when I hear it coming from the other room while I strive to get "something" done :)

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  5. You have a beautiful family and I love how you all have so much fun together! I can't wait for baby to be born and keep on growing and making memories like you have with your family. Have a great Christmas!

  6. Aww - two little princesses! How sweet! I also love your LO's hair - wispy and fairy like... don't even worry about it at this age - it looks adorable! :)

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and safe travels! I really hope you make it to the East Coast eventually! :)

  7. I love the first picture. Descripes a 4 yo vs. a one-and-a-half-year-old PERFECTLY!

Also, I saw your tweet about what to do with your little one's hair. To be honest, I think she looks perfect just the way she is! BUT...Lucy has the same problem. Her hair looks great right after bath but then as soon as she sleeps on it, it gets fuzzy-looking. The only solution I've found so far is using a squirt bottle, comb and lots of barrettes! Also, she seems to tolerate the squirt bottle better if I fill it with warm water.

    1. I just started using a little bit of gel when I want her hair to stay put. It seems to be doing the trick.

Unfortunately, both of our girls despise having barrettes in their hair (despite how much this mama tries). ;)

  8. I am so curious to see how you guys manage this whole adventure. I've been trying to figure out how to both 'stay in the moment' and 'document' things lately as I prepare to start blogging again at my blog...and it's always an interesting challenge. How to live with connectivity without it taking from other day to day living. Computer time in an RV sounds like a whole new challenge! But I know you guys will succeed and share your tips with everyone. :)

    1. I'm curious about that too! ;)

It's so hard to balance everything, isn't it? I feel like I'm constantly dropping balls all over the place...

  9. Comment love is awesome isn't it?! I am always interested in what you have to say. It's just that lately I have a baby crying (teeth & ears), a house to clean, gifts to by and friends to bless! YIKES!

Are you guys already living in the RV???

  10. You are getting ready for a brand new adventure. I am sure the first few months are going to be rough until you settle into a routine but you will make it and image all of the memories you will be making!

  11. Are you guys staying in the rv now? One of my favorite sounds is Jake laughing with his daddy from another room. It almost always makes me stop what I am doing just to listen to the two of them having fun.

    1. Yes, we are. We've slept in it for the past week and it's actually pretty cozy. Except for tonight, that is. We kept smelling gas all day today so we had to turn off the heater until we can investigate the problem. Brrrr. I'm freezing!

  12. Ah what lengths parents will go to for those delicious giggles and belly laughs! May you enjoy and be a part (or the cause!) of them for many years to come!
BTW two more gorgeous princesses i have yet to come across!

  13. It seems like I haven't visited your blog and forever...reading you reminds me how much I've missed it .

And yes giggles, story books, and family keep me from writing too ( :

  14. Love this "snapshot" Stephanie. I am often unable to opt out when I hear the fun also... even when I am supposed to be sleeping:)
Those princesses are clearly in an enchanted forest...

  15. These are lovely dresses. My 4 year old has one of CInderella just like that but I could not figure out what she could wear on her head. That crown is perfect.

My girls' laughter makes me feel exactly the same, I want to run in the room and just be with them
