SLY Awards: Moby Wrap

SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 1Whenever the subject of favorite baby carriers comes up, someone inevitably mentions Moby Wraps. Several of my friends have owned one and they say all good things. And I have to admit that whenever I see a baby snuggled in one of these, I can't help but think how cozy they look - so loved, so peaceful.

SLY Award recipient Kristen McGee is an active babywearer and I know she'll love having her newborn baby girl snuggled up close to her heart come May in a soft, stretchy, highly-acclaimed wrap by Moby. She's the kind of mom who loves her kids with a love that comes from the deepest part of her soul.

Moby Wrap offers wraps in pastels, brights, patterns, and darks. They offer organic wraps, silk wraps, wraps with UV protection, and wraps with beautiful batik designs (inspired by Indonesia).

If you are intimidated by wraps, you'll be happy to know that Moby Wraps offers super helpful step-by-step visual guides and videos to show you how to get your baby into a variety of positions in the wrap. There are even tips for nursing in your moby or getting a workout while carrying your baby! Sweet.

Other things about the Moby that you should know:

  • You can wear your baby facing you, facing the world, sideways, or on your back.
  • Moby wraps are appropriate for preemies all the way up to 35 pounds.
  • Moby Wraps are machine-washable.

All in all, the Moby Wrap appears to be exceptionally versatile with high ratings from moms when it comes to comfort and style.

  1. I love the amount of ways that the moby wrap could be used! It is good for so many stages of the baby's life. My favorite wrap would be the thai silk moby d. It has such a cute pattern!

  2. I've tried a few different slings/carriers, but I think I'm ready for a wrap, and I've heard great things about the Moby Wrap. I think the versatility will be great for my 7-month old daughter!

  3. I have to say that out of all the wraps/slings that I've tried with my two children, the Moby Wrap is one of my favorites. It's a great gift for the new mom or mom-to-be!

  4. It's got a heck of a learning curve, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Moby and want to win one for my sister and her baby, coming this summer!

  5. I would love to give this to my daughter for my grandson. I know she has a sling, but I am concerned becuase of the recent reports I have heard on the news about them. This seems much safer.

  6. I have a similar wrap, but not the Moby brand. I really liked it when he was small, but I got hot wearing it on warm days (all that fabric and a hot little baby body).

I think they have an organic line I'd like to try.

  7. I love that these are perfect for preemies too. I have never been able to find one for just my daughter's size.

  8. I would like to try the Moby D or the Moby Wrap in chocolate. My little love does not like slings so I need find a different alternative.

  9. Our little one is just getting to the stage where I'm more comfortable wearing her than carrying her, especially after our last shopping trip! The Moby Wrap would be a great solution for us, and it'd pack in a bag much easier than a bulky carrier!

  10. These look super comfortable and it doesn't hurt that they aren't too expensive. The organic ones get pricey but the normal ones are reasonable. The hats are super cute and only $5 each too! I was just thinking I might need to get a carrier for when we start walking around this summer...or a double stroller but a carrier is cheaper and I don't have to worry about maneuvering a double stroller.

  11. I would love to have the natural colored wrap. My cousin is having her first baby and this would make a great gift for her!

  12. I used my Moby wrap almost every day for the first few months. I have lots of carriers and wraps, and the Moby always comes on top!

  13. The only wrap I've ever used is an African wrap that my dad brought me back from Tanzania. The issue I had with it is that it didn't have any "give" or stretch. I'd love to try out a Moby! My favorite slings have been Hotsling and and WAHM ergo style carrier.

  14. I'm intrigued by the Moby wrap. I'm worried that I might not be quite coordinated enough to wear one, but I'd love to give it a shot!

  15. I think I would really enjoy using a moby as I have heard good things about them. I like the choclate color.

  16. also - you can NURSE in the Moby really easily and there are TONS of positions as your baby gets older. Our daughter has been in mine just about every day since she was 4 days old. she loves it.

  17. Although my little one is still gestating, I've been a fan of babywearing for years; with my nieces and also with kids I've babysat. Everyone tells me the Moby Wrap is a must-have, so I have two on my to-buy-before-baby-comes list!

  18. My friend just found out she is expecting. I would love to give her the chance to use the moby wrap. I really like the MOSS moby wrap. Thanks for the chance!

  19. I'd love the Moby Wrap with UV protection because we live where it is very sunny. I've loved wearing my little one in a wrap however now that he's a wee bit heavier I've found that a more structured carrier is more comfortable. But I'd tell any new mom to get a wrap ~ it's so comfy and snug for the baby!

  20. I've been very interested in wrapping but the girls are too big even for our ring sling and getting a bit big for the mei tai. I'd love to use a wrap with the next little one. My favorites are: Eggplant organic moby, Jade Stripe silk moby D, and Woven Earth Tone Stripes with Chocolate

  21. I have a Navy moby and I LOVE it!! If I won I would be so very happy to pass it along to a friend. My little one is not so little now (almost a year old!) and feeling sick. Today he only wanted to be held. I honestly do not know what I would have done without the Moby. I saved my back, for sure. thanks!!

  22. I would love a moby wrap, I currently have a storkenweigen(sp?) wrap and it is gonna get kinda hot this summer being that it is a thicker/stiffer wrap. I love carring my baby girl. She is 6 mo... and I can't imagine a day when I won't be able to carry her around!

  23. I didn't know they did designs. The little owl is so cute! I'm so glad the Moby Wrap holds babies upright. Especially with the recent problems with sling carriers.

  24. We love our basic Moby Wrap, it's already getting rather "worn" looking. I would love to try out their wrap with the UV protection in the Sand color.

  25. Moby makes one of my favorite wraps! My niece is expecting her first child late this summer. This would be a great gift for her! The Daisies Print
is my favorite wrap style. Many thanks, Cindi

  26. I just saw a lady wearing one of these the other day. I told my husband that this was a must for our upcoming baby. I like the UV protection ones (what a great idea!) and I think I'd probably choose the turquoise because I like the pop of color, and it's nice that hubby could wear it too.

  27. My friend is expecting and I would like to win her this great prize. I really enjoyed wearing my daughter when she was small.

  28. My sister recently had her first baby, and she tried out about half a dozen different slings and wraps; she said the Moby was her favorite, and still is, with her baby boy approaching 10 months. So I definitely have some trusted recommendations to go on!

  29. I am not intimidated by wraps. I am so excited to use a wrap with my baby due in June. I used a carrier with my now 23 month old and wish I knew about wraps like this sooner! I made one of my own for the new baby but would love to win one and compare. I think mine is too stretchy and my toddler sags in it. If I don't win this one I will have to try again with a less stretchy fabric.

  30. This is one of the last things I need to get, before my daughter gets here. I've used slings in the past, but have just recently started admiring the Moby Wraps. I love the floral Batik design

  31. I was intimidated by the Moby with my first but now I am a fan since my second does not seem to like my Hotsling so much. I agree that they do look so cozy.

  32. I've tried various slings and wraps, but although I've heard great things about the Moby design, I've never tried one. I've heard that they're better for your back than some of the alternatives. I'd love to try one! I think I'd choose a black one. Thanks!

  33. i am one of those people nervous about wraps. i have a snugli carrier that i LOVE. a friend of mine just started making her own wraps and that makes me even more nervous.

  34. I didn't "baby wear" much with my first two kids. I am actually kind of looking forward to trying for baby #3 because I'm dying to be a "baby wearing mama"! Ok, I want another baby for reasons other than that but, I'll look forward to the baby wearing!

  35. My daughter is expecting #6. She used wrap for the last 4 and unfortunately with 6 years between #5 and #6 she thought she was done. She is replenishing all her baby stuff. She would love this wrap and I would love to win it for her.

  36. I think that kangaroo(?) picture is one of the cutest pics of mom and kid I have seen. I absolutely love it! What a fun idea to do with one of these wraps.

  37. I would choose the original Moby wrap in Chocolate or Navy. I have been using a sling which is getting a little hard on my back now that my daughter weighs 15 pounds. Also she wants to be able to see what's going on and the sling doesn't allow her to do that, so a Moby wrap would be great for us!

  38. I got one of these as a gift when I had my son. It took some practice to get the hang of putting it on but my son would fall asleep right away whenever I carried him in it. I loved having the freedom to use my hands while carrying him. Sadly, I can't find it. I either lent it out or lost it. :(

  39. I'm definitely going to try a wrap when I have #2. I've used a mei tai, a sling, and an Ergo so far and they're all good for different times. I think the wrap will be great for the early months. I think I would choose the UV, especially if I'm going to use it when baby is too small for sunscreen.

  40. My good friend let me borrow her Moby wrap for my last baby and it was a life saver!! My little girl was extremely collicky (or something) so it allowed me to constantly move around with her. The bouncing seemed to really soothe her and I loved having her close to my body and my hands more free.

  41. I love the slate seasonal one! Gorgeous! I've never been able to try a Moby before, it would be fun and then to pass it on to my sister who is due in July!

  42. I love the moby batik in vine- but we'll see what DH thinks! I've always had structured carriers, and would love to borrow one to see if I would like it

  43. I love babywearing, I have a ergo but I have always been interested in the mobywrap. Kristen actually made me a maya wrap last year when I had my little girl and I used it all the time!

I left Kristen a lovely compliment too!!

  44. I love my mobywrap and am planning on carrying my newborn in it when I return to school with him/her soon after I give birth (which will be soon I hope). My friend is adopting a baby and does not have a wrap. I would love to win one and give it to her so she can keep her new son skin-to-skin as much as possible.

  45. Wow, that's gorgeous! I haven't heard of Moby before. I just got my second-hand Ergo (at your recommendation, I might add) and I'm totally in love with it. We're planning for our third right now and I would love to have something like this for a newborn.

  46. I've been thinking about what how I will babywear when the new little one comes. I've got an Ergo and a Babyhawk but have been considering getting a Moby. Thanks for a great way to possibly get it!

  47. I like the moby D in the fish balance blue and black! Think this is nice for both mom and dad. These look so great much better than those canvas hard things.

  48. We hope to be adding a new one to our family in the next year and I KNOW I will need a wrap to hold that sweet one close while also playing with my 2 year old. I love the "Born Free" version with the butterfly.

  49. I miss carrying my toddler, since he's outgrown the Baby Bjorn, and I've heard only good things about the Moby. I'd love the organic Eggplant color.

  50. Wraps are my favorite way to go. I had the hardest time with ring slings and gave up. Thankfully, because of the wrap, I didn't have to give up wearing my babies.

    Nell

  51. I love the idea of a wrap with UV protection - that would be great in the summer time! I'd get it in sand so that my hubby would wear it too (I just know he wouldn't do it in pink!!!). :)

  52. I carried my son around in a sling until about 9 months because he got to wiggly and a little too heavy. Lately I've been wanting to go on hikes, but think that letting my son hike with me would be difficult for both of us unless I could carry him. This looks like an option I should look into since it looks so versatile and can carry 35 lbs(!).

  53. As a fellow avid babywearer, I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never used a Moby wrap and would love the opportunity to try it out. I currently use an Ergo and love it, but sometimes the Ergo is a bot hot or doesn't quite work with what I'm wearing or the situation.
