Extracurricular Spotlight: Soccer

Extracurricular Spotlight: Soccer 1

I played soccer for approximately seven years as a child. My husband played soccer in high school and then also attended college on a full soccer scholarship. Needless to say, we have a bit of experience with the sport.

Our oldest daughter played soccer for one season in 5th grade, but has since gravitated toward volleyball. Our second daughter also plays volleyball, but is looking forward to trying soccer at her school this fall as a 6th grader (here's hoping!). Our third daughter attended several soccer clinics last month and really enjoyed them so we are leisurely searching for an all-girls team (they are surprisingly hard to find). As for our littlest guy, he just turned four so we'll have to see what sports he gravitates to as he gets older.

One thing about soccer is sure: it's an EXCELLENT cardio workout. In fact, soccer players can be a bit smug about the amount of running they do. If you play soccer, you're guaranteed to get a great workout. It's a sport that requires strong fitness and finesse along with control, discipline, and teamwork.

If your child plays soccer or is considering playing soccer in the coming year, you'll want to keep an eye on the Umbro website.

Umbro has apparel, footwear, balls, and gear for soccer players of all ages.

For example, the Velocita IV Club FG Junior Cleat (pictured) is among the best available for young players. Sure, the shoes looks super sleek and professional in design - but they also also offers sock construction around the ankle along with stretch, support, and stability.

The Neo Futsal Pro Ball (also pictured) is a ball that you can be proud of and one that will last. It's hand-stitched and high-quality - ideal for dribbling, striking, attacking, and defending.

I'd love to hear from you! Do any of your kids play soccer? If so, where do you typically shop for apparel, cleats, and gear? Do you have any favorite brands?
