The BurpCatcher: "A Burp Cloth, Only Better!"

The BurpCatcher: "A Burp Cloth, Only Better!" 1It's amazing that newborn babies - so fragile, so sweet, so gentle, so small - can produce such BIG messes. Their diapers can be explosive (which is why parents often refer to them as "blow-outs"). Their spit-up can be astonishingly voluminous.

Both of the above also happen frequently - which is why I walked around with a burp cloth sticking out of my jean pocket (so stylish, I know) for the first threeish months of my daughter's life. I think I even kept a spare t-shirt (for me) and a spare onesie (for her) in the trunk of my car - just in case.

The BurpCatcher: "A Burp Cloth, Only Better!" 2Margaret Pressler, a mother of three, had this same experience so she set out to improve upon an item every mom uses - the burp cloth. What resulted is the BurpCatcher, a cloth that "has an ingenious pocket that hangs open to catch baby’s spit up every time. Put it over your shoulder or across your arm—BurpCatcher stops the spit up before it makes a mess!" The BurpCatcher is "award-winning" and "doctor recommended" and "fantastic for feeding and burping a baby in public places."

My daughter is well-beyond the burping stage, but I'm eager to try out this product when we get pregnant with and have baby #2.

BurpCatchers retail between $12 and $16. You can find the BurpCatcher at a variety of stores in the U.S. and Canada or you can purchase the BurpCatcher online.

  1. It runs in my family that the baby would throw up everything they ate for the first 3 months...my mom had a bad scare with that. but then they all turn out fine!

  2. What an ingenious idea! I bet my mother would have liked this when I was growing up (I apparently was of the puking variety LOL)

  3. The worst sound is the *splat* of puke on the hardwood floors (or carpeting, who knew that would make a sound---but it does!). What a cool product that can make that sound a thing of the past!

  5. Burp Cloths the essentials for Motherhood. Best of luck and Happy Mother's Day to each. Thanks SW

  6. I've definitely had a line of puke down my back and not even realized it...this would be great!

  7. I really could use this burp catcher. The many times I have been burping our new baby and didn't have this article! Whew, I have changed many outfits (mine) because I was wearing her spit up down my back.

  8. I love this product, I would love to win this for my friend who's due in July!
    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  9. Wow!!!!!!!!!! With 4 friends and relatives expecting this year would love to win for a gift. Please enter me, thank you

  10. I've seen this burp cloths before and wondered how much difference th pocket really makes! I'd love to try one out!

  11. I also carry extra clothes around for each of the girls and me, just in case of spit up or spill mishaps. This burp cloth is a great idea (don't you wish you had made these things when you thought of them years ago, too??). Just a few weeks ago in the church nursery I was burping Cheeks when I heard that tell-tale "splat" as her spit up bypassed my burp cloth and landed on the rocker. Oops.

  12. I think my mother would have loved this when my sister was a baby. Her nickname was squirt because all she did was spit up. These days she would probably be diagnosed with reflux or something, but back then she was just a baby who spit up a lot. Hopefully my baby won't spit up as much as she did!

  13. Yes, it would be great if I could keep that stuff from ending up running down MY chest! Thanks!

  14. Great! Any way to keep my little one from spitting up on the sofa every now and then is great in my book. Will help keep me less worried about all thats happening with her.

  15. I never used a burp cloth because my first child never seemed to spit up but who knows with this second one. It doesn't hurt to be prepared so I think the burp catcher would be a great item to win.

  16. What a great concept, but I wonder about the "projectile" stuff! Every now and then, my son has an impressive projectile... :)
I really like the designs--so much more hip than the burp clothes I use now!

  17. That's really ingenious!! My kids thankfully were not spitters, none of them. But this would make a fabulous new mom gift!

  18. I sooo needed this when my son was younger. He spit up way after 6 months. I was constantly changing clothes...his and mine...
Would save this for baby number 2!

  19. Great Giveaway. I hope whoever wins really loves the burp cloth!
P.S your daughter is adorable in pic above!

  20. I cannot begin to count the number of times that the burp cloth was in place but the evidence of the burp landed behind my heels! This burp cloth would save many floors!

  21. What a cool concept! Although my girls are older (6 & 10) I very much remember the spit-up stage with each of them!!! My sister-in-law is due in September and I know she could use this!

  22. I just had my first daughter a month ago. I'm still getting used to being a mommy. Winning this would be very helpful!!!!

  23. this is a really great idea my daugther also spit up so much during the first couple of months I was really concerned thankfully she doesnt do it hardly ever now she is 8 months but I wish I had this back then

  24. My first baby had reflux really bad so I could have used one of these for sure! I'm hoping our 2nd won't be quite so bad.

  25. Ooohwow! This is the answer to my daughter's prayers. She has a superspitty baby girl! Thanks...cool product!

  26. This is really awesome! I too also had a burp cloth near me at ALL times when my daughter was little. Funny how that spit-up can come without any warning! Yuck!

  27. Oh, thank goodness for a burp "catcher". My first son was probably the "champ" of this kind of thing. One babysitter had her shoes off and was holding him to burp him and it went over the burp cloth and into her shoe on the floor!

  28. This is one great invention. Wish I had a burp cloth when my last child was a baby. Acloth with a bag on it to catch it all, Great idea.

  29. I am lucky that my little guy doesn't spit up a bunch, but I'll tell you what, you can NEVER have enough burp clothes, I've learned this the hard way!

  30. Oh my gosh! Seriously? I laughed at this one, although the reality of it is not quite so funny! Projectile burp. That's a new one for me, and just the idea of it... I think I really, really need this product. :)

  31. oh...the poor soul who got my Dodge Caravan after a I sold it, when my daughter would projectile vomit...the smell still lingered...what a great product

  32. I've heard that women have a hormone that causes them to forget how horrible childbirth was. I've wondered if there's also a hormone that helps us forget how dreadful an infant's acid reflux was. My daughter spit up so much for the first several months of her life that I often wondered if she'd kept anything down at all.
