What Nursing Mothers Wear: Motherwear

motherwear logoThese days my wardrobe primarily revolves around nursing.

I need tops that provide quick, easy access - for at home and on-the-go.

Surprisingly, those kind of tops are pretty hard to find - especially if you want to be modest about the whole thing.

Enter Motherwear, a company that specializes in "tops, dresses, sleepwear, and swimwear that have hidden nursing openings so you can breastfeed your baby anytime, anywhere."

I actually tried a Motherwear top several months ago and was disappointed by the comfort/style, but I recently decided to give the company a second shot...and I'm so glad that I did!!! I was sent this casual, chic, perfect-for-fall Sporty V-Neck Top ($35):

AND...I absolutely love it.

In fact, if you know me in real life, you'll likely see me wearing this all over the place through the fall and winter. It's comfortable, soft, fitted-but-not-too-fitted, and it's a cinch to nurse in. Plus, don't you just adore that gorgeous pumpkin color? I also particularly appreciate that the top is two distinct pieces so I can wear that bottom white layer with other tops too.

  1. I love that they have a lot of solid colored tops so I can mix and match. I also like that they have a good selection of nursing bras!

  2. I am always on the search for fashion forward pieces that are conducive to breastfeeding. Usually the cami's are, but what does that help if what you are wearing over the cami isnt LOL? So excited to find this company!

  3. I like the double the fun tee. I've tried nursing tops before, but haven't liked them. Maybe it was the style of the openning.

  4. I have not been happy with nursing clothes in the past. To be honest, I haven't even checked into any with this birth. I don't really have the money to spend on clothes that I will put on and not feel comfortable wearing. This would be a really nice way to try them out again without breaking the bank.

  5. I would love that nursing top. It looks comfortable and cute. I'm nursing now and all I have are old t-shirts that you have to pull all the way up and expose your whole stomach. I would love to own an actual nursing top.

  6. I really like the harvest moon tunic and the layered tissue cotton tee. I'm usually not into nursing clothing because its over priced and "motherly" looking. However; there are some really cute tee's at Motherwear.

  7. I really like how the Motherwear site puts the type of nursing opening on each piece... as a first time mom I really had no idea of all of the options out there above and beyond a pull aside or unhook options. Its also great that they have a link ro each opening.

I will need to stock up on some nursing options for the hospital stay.. they have great prices on loungewear.

  8. My midwife recommended Motherwear to me after my son was born. I still enjoy several nursing tops that I got from them...great styles to make nursing moms feel like they're wearing "regular" clothes.

  9. When I was nursing,... back in the day.. I loved Motherwear !! Dresses you can nurse in ! Even very formal dresses for weddings, holidays, whatever. But I will always love them for their nursing bra selection and assistance. I was amply blessed before I had children,& after a few pregnancies, I could NOT find a nursing bra that fit in an ordinary store.Just try asking about size G or H cups at SEARS; not happening. But Motherwear had choices even for people my size, and helpful staff that would assist you over the phone. They aren't cheap, but when you are wearing it 18hrs every day, it has to fit. Made my life a little easier.

  10. I'm disappointed to say I have zero nursing tops. I'm not sure how I've managed this long especially out in public. Well, actually I do know. I've managed with my Bebe au Lait nursing cover. But it would be SOOOO much easier with a nursing top. Here's hoping I win!

  11. The Naomi dress also catches my eye - it's so hard to find CUTE nursing clothes, usually the flaps are so obvious and just ugly =)

  12. That top looks so comfy and easy! I only have like 2 tops that suit nursing in public, so they become my wardrobe pretty much every day we have anywhere to go. It would be great to add a few more tops to my very limited collection.

  13. I actually thought about purchasing the top you're wearing a couple of weeks ago. Now with your recommendation I'm definitely going to proceed with the purchase! It looks great on you! I have a few tops from Motherwear & I'd be happy to add to my collection!

  14. I too have tried a few different nursing tops, and not found them to be at all helpful, flattering, or comfortable. But, I would be happy to give them another try, and am impressed by all the cute & stylish tops on the Motherwear site. I like the looks of the "Sporty V-Neck" that you've highlighted (especially the lovely pumpkin color!), the "Effortless Top" and the "Double the Fun" tee.

  15. Their stuff is pretty cute. I like the Value Line dress. I haven't worn a dress in about 3 years b/c I've been nursing for about that long (and it's about to be extended even more!) I also liked their eyelet nursing tank.

  16. I have not yet breastfed in public, and honestly, I think the fact that I don't have clothes that are very conducive to breastfeeding is part of the reason why. I'd love to try this brand out!

  17. I have been nursing for almost 2 years solid (2 kids, 16 months apart!!) I really wish now that I had invested in more nursing friendly clothes!! Maybe for the next one!!! :)

  18. Occasionally, when I'm nursing, I throw a dress on for church on Sunday. Then about 10 minutes before we have to leave my brain will kick in and I'll realized that I have to go change! There is no way to feed the baby in a dress!

  19. I have no idea what to expect from nursing i.e. what I need, what to do. I purchased 3 nursing bras so far... that's it. This top is very cute....especially since I'll be due on Xmas day!

  20. A nursing hoodie! I love my hoodies but haven't worn one since my little one was born, as I find them a nursing nightmare. So my fav item has to be the sporty thermal hoodie (and it's on sale!!!).

  21. I've never tried Motherwear but all of the other nursing tops I seem to try always fit strange, and I feel more comfortable just wearing a cami under other things so I'm not quite as exposed, but the shirt you have on seems cute.

  22. I like the Pretty as a Picture dress on the clearance page. I will have to spend a little more time there because I like a lot of the styles of their layering tees and their dresses.

  23. I loved that layered look. I think half the reason I didn't breastfeed in public often was I found the clothing difficult to manage under the hooter hider. I like that you could wear the v neck after nursing as well.

  24. When I started breast feeding it was so difficult that I couldn't imagine making it to the 12 month mark and I couldn't justify the expense of nursing clothing. My son is almost 14 months and no where neat weaning. I have made due with the same two bras. Thankfully my cover is large or more people would see my pasty postpartum belly. If I had know what I know now I would have made my life easier and invested in quality nursing clothes.

  25. I'm not nursing anymore, but I love the Penny Lane dress. It looks cute whether you're nursing or not, and if we end up having another baby I'd have an easy access dress to go out and look cute in!

  26. Baby #3 on its way this winter, and my nursing clothes consist of 2 short sleeve tops that are getting pretty thread bare. I haven't had much luck with any of the nursing co. clothes at this point in time, minus the ever handy nursing tank-camisoles. So, I'd love to give this one a try. Thanks!

  27. I love Motherwear clothes. I pretty much miss wearing dresses now that I'm nursing, but I haven't bought any of their dresses before. I do have a few of their shirts. I really like them for ease of use, etc.

  28. Fourth kid and I'm still having a hard time finding nursing clothes that make me feel good. I would love a chance to try this out.

  29. Nursing wear was SO hard for me...I literally wore the same 4 things over and over again. While I am excited to pull out all of my maternity clothes again, I am dreading those nursing tops I wore the heck out of!! Might have to look into this brand when the time comes, the prices seem really good too!

  30. The pumpkin color looks great on you! I wish you could see th fall leaves here in VA. Beautiful!!!
The easiest thing for me (for nursing in public) has been wearing a nursing camisole so that my belly isn't exposed. The cover worked for a while, but then he got too antsy and freaks out when it goes over him. Luckily he isn't really nursing in public anymore.

  31. I liked the neckline of the artist top. When I wore nursing tops 5 years ago, they were all very frumpy. I'm hoping they have changed. It looks like there are some great options here--I would love to win. Thanks!

  32. I pretty much agree with you about my clothes! I like classic pieces that can be worn forever but never go out of style. I really like Motherwear. I am about to be a nursing mom for the first time - my baby is due November 22 - and I know the key to me continuing to nurse will be the ease of the clothing. Loved their tops! And since I live in Africa, the clearance is perfect for me - we are going into summer. My sis is coming in Dec, so anything I win she can bring with her. :) I also created a wish list so maybe I'll get some tops for xmas!

  33. I like the Ringer Tee PJ Set. I'm sleeping on top of the blankets with Eli and I'm looking for a long-sleeved sleep shirt that is easy to nurse in. Right now I'm lifting my whole shirt to nurse and it's getting a little chilly!

  34. I just the love the Naomi Dress because it doesn't even look like a nursing one. I must admit that it's hard to find comfortable and nice nursing clothes. However using nursing tops and dresses are a huge help!

  35. Would love to win this! I was also disappointed by my first experience with nursing clothes, so I could stand to try again.
