Six-year-olds are silly, sweet, and laugh-out-loud funny. They are creative and courageous, insightful and imaginative.
If you have a 6-year-old girl in your life, I have some birthday gift ideas that will please most any personality.
I’ve been saying it for years. A good pair of shoes is a smart gift for any age! In fact, I even bought a pair of shoes for one of my best friends two years ago.
For 6-year-olds, look for shoes that are comfortable and durable – tough enough to withstand lots of play at school, at the neighborhood park, or even on a wilderness trail.
One brand to consider is pediped (pronounced “peedy-ped,” as in pediatric and ped, which is Latin for “foot”). The highly-awarded and well-rated brand features fabulous shoes that have been been awarded the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for creating shoes that promote healthy foot development.
Available for newborns up to size 4Y (approximately age 8 or 9), these quality shoes are made to last.

A versatile item to add to any child’s dress-up closet! With a Doctor Lab Coat, your child can be a physician, veterinarian, scientist, engineer, or inventor. Aeromax’s Lab Coat features a caduceus logo on the right chest and the printed word “doctor” above the pocket on the left chest. You can even have the coat personalized for an additional $4.95. Available in sizes 2/3, 4/6, 6/8, 8/10, and 12/14.
Six years old is just about the right age to transition to what our kindergarten calls a “zoomer.”
The Philips Sonicare For Kids is a scaled-down (and more affordable!) version of the standard Sonicare. There are two brush head sizes available to fit small mouths. If you desire, you can sync your phone with the accompanying bluetooth technology – which acts as a “brushing coach” for your child. Your son or daughter can earn digital prizes for brushing longer and brushing well.
Our Arizona kids wear flip-flops year round, but girls from any state or climate will appreciate a new pair of sandals for the season. These super sweet ice cream flip-flops by Reef are a summery palette of sherbet colors. Casual enough to wear with shorts, but dressy enough to pair with a swishy skirt too. Smaller sizes (3/4, 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10) have a backstrap for easier walking.
