Birthday Gift Guide for 9-Year-Old Girls

April 17, 2018 By Stephanie Leave a Comment

Age nine is really fun. Kids this age are on the cusp of growing up, but they’re still happy to play in the mud, do crazy cannonballs into the pool, and dress up for afternoons of make-believe.

If you have a 9-year-old girl in your life, I have some birthday gift ideas that will please most any personality.

EVERYDAY PLAY CLOTHES

Fancy dresses are nice, but most 9-year-olds live in and love everyday basics.

If you buy a nine-year-old any of the following they are bound to get worn: t-shirts, tank tops with thick straps, comfy pull-on style shorts, and leggings.

Here’s a rule of thumb for you when you go shopping: stick to solids, look for soft materials, and stay away from trendy messages + large logos.

For starters, take a peek at Tea Collection’s NEW tween collection. The brand – which is known for their globally-inspired clothing in super soft materials – now offers clothing in sizes 7-16. Just wait until you see some of our favorites – the Astronaut Graphic Tee, Say Hello Graphic Tee, Pull-On Shorts, and Solid Leggings.

FLIP-FLOPS

Our Arizona kids wear flip-flops year round, but girls from any state or climate will appreciate a new pair of beach-inspired sandals. These super sweet seashell flip-flops by Reef are a pretty pastel peach. Casual enough to wear with shorts, but dressy enough to pair with a swishy skirt too. Smaller sizes (3/4, 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10) have a backstrap for easier walking.

  • BUY Little Ahi sandals.

Sweet Pleats Tee and Rays + Shine Short by Athleta Girl

Athletic clothing is one of my go-to gifts for kids of all ages. Because they are comfortable, breathable, and somewhat “neutral” in design, athletic clothes are an almost no-fail gift, regardless of the birthday kid’s personality or interests.

For well-made, well-fitting, and stylish clothing for runners, hikers, bikers, swimmers, and explorers, browse the collection at Athleta Girl by Gap Inc. Available in sizes XS (6), S (7), M (8-10), L (12), and XL (14).

HIKING BACKPACK

Deuter Gogo XS backpack

Our 9-year-old is a terrific hiker. With excellent endurance, strong limbs, healthy lungs, and an insatiable curiosity about the world around her, she loves to put in miles on local trails.

If you know a young outdoor explorer, Deuter’s Gogo XS backpack is a solid gift pick. Available in three different color combinations, the backpack is sized just right for ages 6-10 and features a bungee stow for jackets, two stretchy side pockets, and ergonomic shoulder straps. This bag does not have a bladder for water, but there are pockets on either side for water bottles (which is, in some ways, preferable – bladders and water spouts can be a pain to clean).

  • BUY the Gogo XS daypack.
