I mentioned sports/energy bars and drinks in yesterday's post as a way to energize before a workout or to refresh yourself after a workout.

I can't say that I like the taste of most sports bars. They typically taste too dry, grainy, mineral-y...I don't know what word to use to describe it appropriately. My taste buds just don't love them, that's all.

And I recently had the opportunity to test SportBeans by JellyBelly. They are tasty little jelly beans packed with carbs and electrolytes (and sugar) to get you through your workout. I liked the "pop-'em-in-your-mouth-and-go" factor and, of course, my taste buds didn't give these guys the cold shoulder either. I really wanted to give away a pack or two of these, but couldn't find them at the two grocery stores I visited (perhaps they're only sold at outdoor/sporting good retailers...or maybe they're in the candy aisle?).* BONUS * Win a Cookies & Cream PowerBar 2

  1. I have never had a powerbar. Yesterday I started the calorie count plus and have been watching every calorie. I would love to try one!

  2. Mine is just water right now, I'd love to try this though. The ones I have tried, I never really liked. Orange Gatorade would be my 2nd choice to water :)

  3. I really like the Soy Joy bars and I usually (when I remember) eat half of one before a morning workout and then a small glass of Chocolate milk afterward!!

    I love chocolate milk but now I have an excuse to drink it.

  4. during my races and long runs, I actually look forward to eating chocolate GU (yuk, I know) I usually freeze it beforehand so it is still somewhat thick, kind of like icing.

  5. Chocolate milk is the best for after workout recovery! My son who plays soccer for 4-6 hrs a day loves the sports beans. They are usually in the health food section of the grocery stores. My cousin who is a top runner in the state swears by straight honey. ~ :)
