Father’s Day Gift Guide: Outdoor Gear from REI

June 3, 2010 By Stephanie

Father's Day Gift Guide: Outdoor Gear from REI 1If you’re shopping for a dad who likes camping, fishing, hiking, rock-climbing, cycling, canoeing, or skiing…think REI for Father’s Day.

The hardest part about your shopping experience will be deciding what to get out of a gazillion available options!

Here are 3 ideas for your consideration…

Father's Day Gift Guide: Outdoor Gear from REI 2REI Halo +25 Sleeping Bag ($259)

This royal blue bag will make his journey easier and his sleep more peaceful. It is lightweight (really…it’s almost weightless!), durable, and feature-laden. He’ll be snug and toasty, thanks to the contoured hood, face muffler, and foot box.

REI Adventure Pants ($46.50)

Father's Day Gift Guide: Outdoor Gear from REI 3Hikers, fishers, and world-travelers will get great mileage out of these lightweight, breathable, and comfortable pants. Available in 3 colors, the pants offer a UPF 50+ rating and a moisture-wicking material that will dry quickly as he hikes, climbs, and wades through water in the great outdoors. Zippered pockets keep his possessions from drifting away or getting dropped along the way. Tim gives these a solid 2-thumbs up for versatility and usefulness.

Father's Day Gift Guide: Outdoor Gear from REI 4REI Nalgene Everyday Wide-Mouth Loop-Top Water Bottle ($9.95)

Keep him hydrated with this BPA-free, dishwasher-safe bottle. For a creative gift presentation, throw in an REI gift card and/or a handwritten note of appreciation. No gift wrap necessary!

There isn’t a giveaway with this one, but I did want to tell you about the REI Outlet, where you can get your favorite outdoor adventure products for 50% off (and more). Check it.

If you shop at REI, there’s a good chance, your guy will be grinning ear-to-ear when he unwraps your gift:

My husband loves outdoors, too. Last night, I heard my children planning to buy their dad a water bottle. Their dad loves to collect water bottles, mugs or even personalized mugs. I think I’m gona tell my kids to check out REI for their dad’s gift.

My husband is very outdoorsey. This would make his eyes lightup. He would have to try out the new stuff for a few days. There might be more camping trips to go on. Add a canoe and a fishing pole and he might be gone for a week.

Living in Seattle we have outings to the REI flagship store. It is awesome and so difficult to leave without purchasing something!

REI has some spectacular outdoor gear. Unfortunately I moved and I am no longer near one :(
They do have an online store :) but it is not nearly as much fun to drool online than walking through the aisles.

Jordan and I are committed to being an outdoor family. Yes, I went camping with him and our two year old when I was 7 months pregnant. Not camping trailer camping, in a tent in the middle of nowhere camping. We LOVE REI’s gear. It is really high quality and they know camping and fishing! Unfortunately they can be really pricey too, so being able to give our Super Dad a new sleeping bag, the awesome adventure pants, or the water bottle would be SO much fun. He would be SHOCKED!

We love, love, love REI…not to mention their 100% return policy! We plan to spend quite a bit of time there now that it is in Tucson!

REI carries great gear. We will be loading up on a few items before going to Haiti in July. When my husband was there in February, he accidentally left his nice Naglene water bottle. Time to re-stock. :)

REI is a great place. We have one near Philly that we’ve gone too to buy a tent and sleeping bag. Thanks for sharing the info about the outlet. I’ll be checking that out.

REI is my go-to place for gifts for my husband. If I can’t think of anything else, I know he won’t be disappointed with an REI gift card and an evening of “playing” in the store.

REI has great stuff for women, too! I was surprised when I went in there (okay, fine, was dragged in there) by my husband to look for some cycling gear.

I love to use Nalgene bottles as gift bags. It’s a fun way to give a small gift.

Oh REI…how my husband loves you! If he could, he would spend lots and lots of money at REI. I used to call him ‘phase boy’ because he gets interested in something but it doesn’t last. I can no longer call him ‘phase boy’. He took to fishing a few years ago and it is here to stay. He is still lamenting the fact that we lived in New Zealand for a few years and he never went fly fishing – NZ is one of the best places in the world to fly fish. Anyhow…REI is a fav around here!
