FOR HER: TJ Maxx/Marshalls

December 12, 2008 By Stephanie

tj-maxx-marshallsHave you been to TJ Maxx/Marshalls lately? They’re essentially the same “kind” of store. You can shop for Ugg boots, Tommy Hilfiger tees, New Balance tennis shoes, Hasbro toys, and more…all at discounted prices.

The Marshalls website boasts that, “80% our of our items are under $20” (does that phrase say “stocking stuffers” to anyone?)…and I bet TJ Maxx has similar stats. You can find clothing, shoes, cookware, books, toys, linens, just about everything…all under one roof.

I know because I was just at TJ Maxx this morning. I picked up a Joseph Abboud wallet, a men’s belt, a ceramic serving platter and serving bowl, and an iPod headset for under $50.

tj maxx fashionThese kind of stores are excellent for “treasure hunters.” If you like shops that offer continuously changing inventory, then you’ll love “digging for gold” at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. There are bargains to be found, that’s a sure fact…but it does require some effort. You can’t simply do a quick website search for the exact item that you’re looking for and pull out your credit card (in fact, you can’t purchase inventory on their website at all because it changes so quickly…). You have to enjoy the thrill of not knowing what might await you when you walk through those automatic glass doors.

So, tell me. What kind of shopper are YOU? Do you take pleasure in the hunting process and do your eyes light up when you find just the right things for just the right person? OR…do you prefer the predictability of wish lists and online shopping? I have to admit I fall in the latter category most of the time (there’s nothing like shopping in your PJs and waiting for your package to arrive). But that doesn’t mean that I’m not up for a little bargain-searching every once in awhile…

WIN IT! There will be two winners. Each winner will receive a $25 gift card to Marshalls. To enter, leave a comment (feel free to say if you’ve shopped at either store, what you love about the stores, what you would improve about the stores…just about anything) on this post prior to Monday, December 15 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

FOR AN EXTRA ENTRY: Link to my site! Anywhere! You can add one of my buttons to your blog, add me to your blogroll, add my site to your Facebook page, you choose…Then, come back here and leave a second comment with a link to where you linked to me.

***For a complete listing of all of the reviews and giveaways in my “Super Stocking Stuffers” series, click here.***

*UPDATE* The winners are #28 Andrea and #123 Michelle. Congratulations!

My two favorite stores in the world-have been for years even before the economy tanked. I’m always flattered on the way I dress. They will have a limited supply of items so you don’t look like everyone else.

I shop at both TjMaxx and Marshalls, although much more a Tjmaxx. I am like you, I love being comfy at home when I shop, but sometimes I just need to get out and shop in person. Not clothes shopping which I just want to get it over with, but looking at things for the house, there is no substitute for being there to see the merchandise.

I especially love that about TjMaxx, they have so many items for the home and you couldn’t possibly see it all online.

I am an avid bargain hunter and TJ Max is just the place to fill all our needs. I will typically check TJ’s before shopping anywhere else. Most recently, I shopped there to help get my daughter ready for college. She needed everything from bedding to bathroom accessories. We found the best deals on designer bedding and bathroom items and we saved a bundle to boot! I don’t know that I could suggest any improvements at this time. One of the reasons I continue to go back is because the stores are always kept clean and well organized. I am always able to find quality items and very rarely have to return anything.

I usually visit TJ Maxx once a month. I love their purses and their holiday decorations. I am amazed that they changed their checkout procedure! I used to get so mad that I’d be in the shortest line and still be the last one out! Now there’s a queue and an automated announcement telling the next person in line where to go…to check out. :-)

I’ve never shopped at Marshalls…Hmmmm..I like the toy section..It’s just a bit difficulty to navigate the site…can I actually buy things online or do you have to go in to the store?

    I do like shopping online…it’s so easy/convenient…

But there is also something about that instant gratification of getting the item without having to wait for it.

    Love to bargain shop!

I love shopping at TJMaxx and Marshalls. I have been shopping there for years and years! I have purchased so many clothes for the entire family at a fraction of the cost of regular department stores. I am always amazed at how they carry the exact same thing that I have seen in department stores for almost half the price. And, if you are lucky enough, you may even find the item of your dreams on Sale which means you may even be able to purchase things for 75% less! I also have decorated and accessorized our home with so many fabulous beautiful items from their home departments. Things like sheets, towels, rugs, lamps, just to name a few at really incredible low prices and truly gorgeous items! Thanks for the opportunity to enter!

I love the good deals you can find and the homegoods website has a great area where you can post pictures of your finished room and what you found at the store. It’s inspiring. I wish that you could actually shop on the TJ Maxx website though. That’s a defenite downfall.

I love both stores, but Marshall’s is the closest. I go there most often. I am an avid bargain hunter, and Marshall’s has GREAT bargains. If I could improve something about both stores, it would be customer service. Their stores are neat and clean and laid out nicely, but I frequently find less than helpful employees.

I’ve shopped at Marshall’s, and have appreciated getting some good deals on high quality toys. They seem to be slightly better organized than places like Ross. With two small children in tow, though, I don’t have much time to dig for deals, so I don’t shop there as often as I might otherwise.

I was at Marshall’s just looking around, and I picked up a queen-size sheet set and notice that it was about $15 or so. I checked the thread count and it was a high number (can’t quite remember). Anyway, I decided to go ahead and get them. They are the best, softest, thickest sheets I’ve ever had and I LOVE them. And they were so cheap! I KNOW I got a grea deal! Love it! Great giveaway – thanks for offering!

TJ Maxx scares me a bit. I love their toy section and shop there for toys all the time. I get super excited when I find a great deal on a toy. I found a wonderful wooden block set for about $20. And they always have a great selection of Melissa and Doug products. But what scares me is the clothing section. I have never shopped in the clothes because the jumble of all those clothes hanging together just unnerves me. I like to see clothes in neat stacks and all together so I can easily find the size and style that I like. Maybe I’ll venture into the clothes if I’m lucky enough to win the gift card.

While I enjoy the prices of places like Marshalls (and I have shopped there and done well before), I tend to enjoy the ease of some of the larger and/or more organized stores. I’m still kind of getting my feet wet with online shopping, although I’ve done a little bit this year. I guess I’ll do a little of everything with my shopping, and that’s what works best for me right now.
