Play the Day Away…with Little Tikes

October 13, 2008 By Stephanie

“Race, mama!”

That is a common request from my daughter’s lips. She loves “racing” back-and-forth in our great room or in our backyard. We’ll count together…”1, 2, 3“…and then – with an enthusiastic “GO!” – we’re off! It’s one of her favorite games.

Play the Day Away...with Little Tikes 1She also loves swinging and sliding and strolling and jumping and galloping. Movement is her middle name. Well, not really. But she does have a propensity to action.

If I said “yes” to every single one of her requests, I’d be the thinnest and strongest mommy around.

When it comes to losing weight, gaining muscle tone, and/or building cardiovascular endurance, it’s tempting to think we always need to do “BIG” things…Run a marathon. Go to the gym. Do 50 push-ups.

Those are all admirable goals worth pursuing, but sometimes the most feasible option is to PLAY with our kids – to say “yes” when they want to go for a walk or when they beg us to play tag or when they want us to demonstrate our mad hula-hooping skills for the 100th time.

Play the Day Away...with Little Tikes 2The folks at Little Tikes were kind enough to send us a Fold Away Playground ($99.99) to review…and I have to say that the playground has been a fun incentive to get outdoors and get active. The playground features a climbing wall, an adjustable basketball hoop, a soccer/hockey net, and a slide (my daughter’s favorite part…). Designed for little ones in the 1.5 to 5-year-old range, the playground is ideal for tots who are too young for bigger sets and for families with smaller homes/yards because it is quite compact (whether it’s folded up or down). Although some 4-5 year olds might still get a kick out of the playground, it is probably best suited for 1-3 year olds.  At just shy of 100 bucks, it’s also much more reasonably priced than other playgrounds in the same aisle at the toy store.

P.S. Have you explored all of the other fun toys on the Little Tikes website? I just know my daughter would LOVE the Picnic on the Patio Playhouse or the Great Wolf Lodge Log Cabin!

WIN IT! One winner will receive a Little Tikes Fold Away Playground ($99.99). To enter, leave a comment on this post prior to Tuesday, October 21 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #64 Becca. Congratulations!

What a clever idea for someone who has little space like in an apartment or a house with only 1,220sq. feet. Also what a perfect thing to carry over to grandma’s house when she is baby sitting. Of course, Little Tikes, with their color combos are always inviting to a child.

    October 21, 2008 at 9:15 am

This would be wonderful. I’m an aunt-to-be, for the first time. My brother and si-in-law are expecting.

This is soooo practical, especially for those with limited space. It’s not one of those super big, super bulky playsets. It’s small enough that they can even use it in the living room.

Incorporates a little of everything that kids want for to do for fun.

Plus, the children can’t get hurt as it’s sturdy, secure and made out of plastic not metal.

Thanks for the opportunity to win.
    Hope it’s me :)

That 1.5 year old age is going to be right around the corner, and it’s nice to know what you need or what could fit our lifestyle (we have a VERY small backyard) now, and not scramble or waste time researching/trying to find the right products later. Thanks for the great review. Sounds like this playset would fit our growing family perfectly and our son would really enjoy it. Thanks!

Our family has been loyal Little Tikes customers for 2 generations now. I bought them for my kids and now my kids are buying them for thier tots. I have found Little Tikes to be enduring, even when left out in the cold Colorado winters, safe, and most of all fun. They spur the imagination and promote “safe” adventuring ie. climbing the little ladder, going down the slide, standing tall on top. Little Tikes are always worth the extra $$$ over the copycat brands.

I love that Little Tykes has such an incredible quality to their products. My 8 year old had the work bench when he was 2. That thing went through it all…it was a workbench, a jungle gym…and after 6 years when we gifted it to another little boy…it still looked great! My little Pea loves slides and balls. She’d get a great kick out of this wonderful prize! It would make a wonderful Christmas gift! Thanks for the chance to win!

I like the Classic Alligator Teeter Totter, it would be great to use along with your giveaway of the Fold Away Playground. I remember a dust devil actually picking my younger, tiny built, sister up off of the playground about 2 feet, when we were little. I grabbed her legs and pulled her back down. Her poor little legs looked like she had gotten a rope burn from the gravel it also picked up. I remember some kindergarden teachers running to us to see if we were okay. I rescued my one year younger sister then, and would have to from another minor calamity when we were in Junior High. She still remembers me helping her out, but she has helped me out alot as an adult. We need our siblings, and we need fun, both as children and adults. Good luck to all.

Oh, golly! My 16 month-old monkey boy would go bananas over this little playground! He’s just such a climber, and well…we’ve got grass and dirt…but nothing really climbable. Plus, the basketball hoop will help fuel DH’s dreams about an All-Star son, lol.

Little Tikes does make really cool stuff for kids…even if it is plastic, which is not my favorite material. With a cold snowy winter on its way, I’m thinking one of these would be awesome in our family room! Crossing our fingers that our 1 and 3 year old might get a chance to play with one. Mikayla still loves “ready, getset, go! She love to race mama but she always has to win. She loves to run and play and jump and I try to keep up with her so I can lose some weight. Lily would love a playset like this – everything we have is made for a 3 year old not a younger child.

Little Tikes has been a reliable brand for us, especially with active boys. This play set looks like a lot of fun, as well as practical since it folds up to store. My boys would love it!

I’ve been looking for something like this as it’s just not possible for me to take my toddler to the park every single day. This will help me oh-so much by providing my active little one with a way to spend all that overflowing energy right at home. Winning this will be just plain awesome!

    Thanks for another great giveaway.

This is just what my nephew would love. He is a very active 2 yr. old always trying to imitate the older kids playing basketball. He also enjoys playing his versions of soccer, this has a net perfect for his goals. This is the perfect size and portable to boot. Who could ask for more. Little Tikes is always on top of what kids love.

What a great set. We like to bring some of our outdoor toys (bikes & such) indoors during the snowy winter, so a compact playground set like this would make that feasible. My 3 year old would probably love the nets, and my 1-1/2 yr old would LOVE the climbing wall! :)

My children always loved Little Tikes. These products are so durable. Now that we have grandchildren I’m amazed at what all Little Tikes offers now. There is so much variety. And the fact this this one folds away is so neat cause Grandmas don’t always have the need to have this stay up all the time… just when the sweet ones come to visit.

This little playground would be great for us because we live in an HOA community and there are restrictions that says we can’t have structures higher than our backyard fence (6 ft.). Even though that keeps my husband from having his much dreamed about workshed, my little guy will still be able to enjoy a wonderful playscape.
