Potty Chairs (for parents who prefer simplicity)

March 31, 2008 By Stephanie

babybjorn_logosmall.gifBabyBjorn is a trusted brand when it comes to babywearing. In fact, it’s the GOLD standard for front pack carriers. Moms all over the world proudly wear their babies in Bjorn’s high-quality, stylish carriers.

As it turns out, BabyBjorn is equally on-board with helping parents during the potty training years. The company offers two potty chair choices –

1. The BabyBjorn Potty Chair, which features “high-back support and comfortable arm rests.”

picture-2.png

2. The BabyBjorn Little Potty, which is “perfect for traveling or to keep in the car in case of emergencies” (I’ve also heard that this toilet is a favorite among ECers).
picture-3.png
If you prefer to have your little one learn how to use the regular toilet, you might be interested in the BabyBjorn Toilet Trainer – a good idea for friends’ homes or grandpa & grandma’s house too!

Plus, you might want to consider getting a matching step stool to help your little one reach the sink to wash his hands – an important step of the potty training process.

One thing I particularly like about BabyBjorn’s Bathroom products is that they’re simple and streamlined. No fancy gimmicks, silly sounds, or musical flushes here. It’s just a potty – and thus it’s more likely to be used for its intended purpose instead of as a toy.

WIN IT! One mama will win a BabyBjorn Potty Chair. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post prior to Monday, April 7 at midnight (don’t forget to follow the rules). The winner will be announced and contacted on Tuesday, April 8. * Winner must provide a U.S. mailing address.

*UPDATE* The winner is #74 Lindsie. Congratulations!

We totally need a bjorn potty for my daughter. Currently we have the graco potty from my son and my daughter is so tiny she falls in! I saw the bjorn one and think she will fit much better on it, plus it comes in pink!

our little bundle of energy just turned two and we are working on the challenge of sitting still long enough to use the potty. this would be great!

  6. Rose L says

    April 6, 2008 at 1:07 pm

I think you are right about the design. I can just see some of the other “fancy” ones becoming toys. Plus, they look nice and compact which is great because our main bathroom was built in the 50s, and someone added a too-large vainity + counter some time in between then and now… which leaves very little room to maneuver. Small potty training equipment will be vital for us! My son is 19 months old, so I think the potty training days are not too far removed – would love to win.

We’re going to train our daughter this summer, and it’d be nice to have a simpler chair for her, not to mention a girly color (the hand-me-down seat from our son is, of course, blue)! Thanks! ( meg.wilson@gmail.com )

  19. Lucy says

I love that they come in such fun bright colors!

  20. Dianna K. Ball says

    April 3, 2008 at 7:39 am

I’m really torn between wanting the little potty (we do a little EC’ing) or the toilet trainer. On the one hand, it’d be nice if my little one could put her feet down while she’s on the potty. On the other hand, it’d be nice for her to continue to learn to go in the big potty so there wouldn’t be any extra cleaning. I can’t decide, but either way, Baby Bjorn is definitely the way to go with kid’s toilets!

  21. Sarah says

    April 3, 2008 at 6:26 am

Love this chair! No goofy characters or weird sounds. After all, we’re trying to teach “get your business done and go” not playtime at the potty.

  24. R055ana says

I know of lots of people who use this potty who are practicing elimination communication (EC). They are happy with the different colors available, how low to the ground it is (for young babies) and that it doesn’t tip over. I never bought this one because I didn’t want to buy it on-line and pay for shipping fees.

  25. Jennifer B. says

We have been using our Little Potty to do some EC since Miss Baby was 2 1/2 weeks old, with her sittni g on it since 5 on it sinc 5 months. At 10 months she happily sits (and poops) on it every morning, and any other time we change her diaper. It’s never to early to get your baby used to a potty! If nothing else, you will have a bigger kid who understands how to poop on a toilet, as opposed to most later start kiddos. It’s a great place to read books. I’d love the bigger one. Thanks for the chance!

Potty training and diapers are the scariest part of the baby to my hubby! Anything to make it easier, and faster, I am SURE hubby will be happy about (and he won’t even be changing many diapers). These look simple enough to clean too, and that’s important considering that I will be the one cleaning it!

What a great looking potty chair! I just bought one for my 2yo and he does not like it…but then again, I don’t think I would either. It’s a square shape and looks very uncomfortable to sit on. I like the Bjorn chairs bc they look like their made for little kids to site on – comfortably! I think I could convince my son to potty train with one of these chairs!

I like the fact that they make basic seats. When potty training my daughter, I didn’t want to make a big production of it because I don’t want her to think of pottytime as playtime. I could really use a step stool!

    Thanks!

  60. SJ says

    April 2, 2008 at 5:26 am

Oh lord, if only it came with someone to actually do the potty training, it would be perfect! Someone should market that. Anyway, anything that could help with an almost 3 year old boy, I’d love to give a try. The ring hasn’t worked, the Once Upon a Potty hasn’t worked…I’m desperate.

This type of potty would be perfect for our small house. I like that it doesn’t have a lot of parts to fiddle with.

  62. molly says

    April 2, 2008 at 5:15 am

We could really use a potty chair right now. Our little girl is refusing the big potty with the little seat we put on it for her and I think this might help the situation. All of the potty training books stress a small potty, which we were trying to avoid in our tiny house. But if we win one….

  63. Dawn Alice Rogers says

    April 2, 2008 at 4:42 am

I love these chairs! We had one for my 1st daughter and would love one for my second. They really are so easy to clean and transport, it is worth the money.

  64. Martha W says

    April 2, 2008 at 3:57 am

I was really interested in the BabyBjorn Little Potty because we watch our grandchildren quite often but had no trouble with the 2 boys using the big pot but now we have our first granddaughter and have all 3 at once. Too much for 2 seniors. It would be really nice to have a potty left at our house, though I think my dear daughter in law would want the pretty streamlined new one for home, anyway a second potty would save schlepping one back and forth . Thanks Martha W.

I’ve been doing some research on the best methods (ring vs. chairs) for potty training, and I have heard so many great things about the Baby Bjorn potty chair. Even though my daughter is still a little young, I’m interested in teaching/showing her the concept. It’s never too early to start training, right?!

This is what is coming up next for us – I’m not quite ready for this whole thing, but it will be nice to not have to change diapers anymore. This looks like a great product, and I thought you had a good point about it being simply a potty and not a toy.

  74. Mia says

    April 1, 2008 at 8:27 pm

Well, with my 15 month old, it seems a little early. But she has lately been taking off her diaper (or patting her butt) when she has pooped. In talking with her doctor, that seems to be the first sign of readiness. We went looking for a potty this weekend and found nothing. This would be perfect.

Funny you mention keeping the little one in the car because that’s where ours lives. It has saved us more times than I can count. I LOVE it. It has survived 3 kids. The same can’t be said of the more complicated ones. And heck, my big kids occasionally use it when we’re stranded without options and it holds up wonderfully.

what a nice design! My little dude has started taking notice of the potty, but with a bathroom that seems more like a hallway with a potty at the end, we are having a hard time figuring out how to fit a “little potty” in it. My husband thought we could just out it in the tub (would make for easy cleaning), but I think this would work better

I’d also love to win the potty chair! Our house has quite a few little potties, but my 18mo ECer has now expressed a distinct preference for the potty chair!

We have the Baby Bjorn Little Potty and LOVE it. We EC our 10-month-old, and it’s the perfect size for her little tushy. She’s too little too sit independently on the big potty, even with a seat reducer. She loves sitting on the Little Potty all by herself.

We’re about to jump on the potty train… As I understand – no frills is the way to go and this potty is the best. We’re talking the potty talk now and as soon as she gets the walking down, we’ll have the potty out for her to get to. Would love to have this one by the time she’s there in the next couple of weeks (yikes!).

    Thanks!

I love the picture of the girl showing her monkey how to use the BABYBJÖRN Potty Chair on their website. Reminds me of a Dr. Phil episode I saw where he walked 3 celebrity couples and their soon-to-be potty trained kids through the initial steps of potty training. He also used a doll at first, helping to teach the kids what to do and to make it ‘fun’ for them. Can such a thing be ‘fun’? Great product, and would love to win!

We already have one of these potty seats (in white) at home, but I’d love to win won to keep at my parent’s house. I, too, love the simplicity and also the color options ;)

I’m not entering the contest…these days are (thankfully) in my past. However, I just want to say that these are great chairs. They were actually the only ones that my sister could find that were large enough to be comfortable for her son who is larger than most other children.

Now, that’s an elegant potty for sure :)
We’ve just embarked on this project and even I hate the potty we got poor Kiddo. I think this might make it easier on both of us.

    Count us in – thanks!

I hate to share this great giveaway, but I’m still posting it tomorrow at my contest/giveaways blog A Bookworm’s Diary

I’m also having a giveaway later this week. So, come visit me as well!

Family secret – I didn’t potty train my son. My mother did! He’s 12 yrs old now (and potty trained ha!) but now, we have baby Bella… and I’m clueless!
I like the toilet trainer for our tiny bathroom and grandma’s house, but also really like the high back on the Baby Bjorn potty chair.
Will definitely look into these products. Thanks for sharing!

These potty chairs ROCK. I’m not entering the contest. I have one. But I wanted to add my 2 cents. I wouldn’t have any other one.

We have a potty but it is rather tippy and not fun to clean. It was used for the older girl but now her sister is in the beginning stages. This potty looks much better than the one we have. Clean lines, stable on the floor. I would love to give it a try.

In the beginning, when my little guy wasn’t in our arms or being worn in his Bjorn on our chests, he was in his Bjorn bouncer. But he’s long since graduated from his baby Bjorn products that we couldn’t live without, and pretty soon we’ll need to look into acquiring a potty for the inevitable. Why not add another Bjorn to the family.

I would love to win this one for my baby girl. The shape actually reminds me of the potty we used for my oldest (now 10).

I agree that is it nice that it doesn’t make sounds or anything. I’ve always wondered about the ones that looked like toys and if the child would think it was a toy and play with it instead of understanding its purpose. Thanks for the giveaway!

We’re fixin’ to start training our little guy. I think this would be a great help! I didn’t potty train our two oldest, now 14 and 12. My mother & sister-in-law did!! I guess it’s my turn now:)…lucky me, huh?!

We have a potty chair and use it, so don’t enter me, but I do wonder about them sometimes. I’ve heard that potty training can be easier if you use the big potty from the start because then it will be familiar from the start and the kids will go anywhere. But I’ve also heard that the big size of the adult potty is daunting and kids are more likely to go if they have one that’s their size. Does the book address this?

I like the shape and streamlined look. I’m sure cleaning would be a breeze. Great timing for my 2 year old toddler twins, (and for my youngest baby, though she’s only 6 months old now). Kathy
