You are 2

September 11, 2008 By Stephanie

You are 2 1

You are 2.

  • Such a wonderful age.
  • You are vibrant and curious and quick.
  • Your smile brightens up the darkest of moments.
  • Your free and spirited laugh warms our hearts.
  • Your eager and energetic spirit splashes a kaleidoscope of color into our lives.

You are 2.

  • You can run and jump and sing and dance and shout.
  • You can recognize and identify 20 of the 26 letters of the alphabet.
  • You can identify colors: red, orange, blue, green, yellow, black, white, pink, purple, and grey.
  • You can count from 1 to 5.
  • You know lots of body parts: eyes, ears, elbows, nose, mouth, knees, toes, fingers, forehead, wrists.

You are 2.

  • You talk a lot and I love to hear your little voice…
  • the “Love yous” and “thank you, mommys” and “sit down, pleases” and “sorrys”…
  • the sweet way you say “bless you” after you sneeze…
  • the little commands you give with such seriousness – “Run!,” “Jump!,” “Around!,” “Eat!,” “Read it!”
  • And, of course, you love to say “Self!” to indicate that you can indeed do so many things by yourself.

You are 2.

  • You can pick out your clothes by yourself (although you still need help putting them on).
  • You can get up in your seat at the dining room table by yourself and buckle yourself in.
  • You can “help” open the blinds and make smoothies and take out the trash.
  • You are pretty much completely potty trained during the day and you like to go by your “self!”
  • But you haven’t quite mastered sharing yet – you don’t hesitate to tell others when something is yours.

You are 2.

  • You love string cheese, cream cheese, sliced cheese, and macaroni and cheese.
  • You love eating rice puffs or Cheerios with daddy for breakfast.
  • You love pudding and ice cream cones and fruit snacks and ranch dressing.
  • But you also like peas and broccoli, grapes and blueberries, baby food carrots and vegetable soup.
  • You’ll eat almost anything and you absolutely love “sharing” whatever we happen to be eating.

You are 2.

  • You like coloring – especially in Winnie-the-Pooh coloring books.
  • You like counting and running “fast” back and forth in our great room.
  • You like being outside (you’d be outdoors all day long if you could).
  • You like reading books, bouncing balls, and playing with the hose in the backyard.
  • You like sitting in your purple seat and watching Barney and Elmo and “TV.”

You are 2.

  • You nap in your stroller every afternoon for 1 to 2 hours.
  • You sleep on a full size mattress on the floor in your room from about 8:30pm to 7:45am.
  • You like bath time and giving kisses and being tickled and “tossed” up into the air by daddy.
  • But you don’t like having your teeth brushed (you like to do it your “self!”)…
  • And you don’t particularly like having to forfeit the fun of the day to go to sleep.

You are 2.

  • You love being with family and friends, but you are weary of strangers. You know who to trust.
  • You are especially close with “Ma” (grandma) – who comes over to play with you 3 times a week.
  • You are very concerned about whether people are “happy” or “sad”…
  • And you’ll give hugs and say “that’s okay” if someone is crying.
  • You have a genuine sweetness about you and a certain fearlessness that makes us proud.

You are 2.

  • Beautiful. With that blonde hair, those blue eyes and long lashes, that gorgeous complexion.
  • Hopeful. Believing the best in everyone.
  • Intelligent. Ready to learn, eager to prove yourself.
  • Active. Running until you catch you breath. Exploring the world around you with boundless energy.
  • Destined for greatness.

Even if it is just a little peek back, it was so good to “see” you and read your words. And how perfect and wonderful those words are! Happy Birthday to your amazing girl! To have a daughter like that clearly brings you so much love and joy. To have a daughter like that clearly shows how confident, secure, blessed, safe, encouraged and loved she feels in the Mommy and Daddy who are a bigger blessing to her than she knows!

Praying that God will continue to perfectly knit together the baby within, providing you peace and comfort all along the way!

    Love and prayers to you!!

WELCOME BACK! We missed you. Thanks for writing such a beautiful post. I wish I had thought to write some of those kinds of things down at Blondie’s birthday. Now some of the things she can/could do sort of blend together. It’s never too late to start, though, right?
