Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
This is a childhood favorite for many. Black-and-white photos help to chronicle the events of Alexander's very bad day. Essentially, Alexander wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and everything seems to be going wrong. He hopes to escape the misery by moving to Australia.
The exaggerations are classic in that they truly remind you of the sometimes-irrational perspective of children. It's also fun to read aloud and the repetition is bound to be fun for three to five year olds.
