GIFT IDEA: a single cupcake or muffin

July 26, 2009 By Stephanie

So…

  • your best friend just got a new job
  • your sister is going to be published for the first time
  • your coworker won an award
  • your child’s teacher did something extra special

You want to do something fun, but you don’t have a wad of cash or a lot of time.

Instead of sighing hopelessly and doing nothing, bake up a batch of muffins or cupcakes. Then, follow this great step-by-step, no-fail system.

1. Reach for a snazzy cupcake box ($3.19/pk. of 3 from Wilton).

single cupcake box wilton

2. Slap a “Home Made” seal ($1.09/pk. of 24 from Wilton) on there.

3. Attach a handwritten note.

  2. Cupcake Note Cards – Set of 8, $13.00 {etsy shop: ordersupdesigns}
  3. Cupcake Cuties Set of 5, $8.00 {etsy shop: girlygifts07}

Ta-Da! Is that easy or what? I’m definitely going to keep a stash of those cupcake boxes at my house.

JUST FOR FUN: Here is a picture of the crumble-top pumpkin muffins that my 2-year-old and I made today:

    Instead of frosting the old way, melt (in microwave for just a few seconds) frosting just enough to be able to dip the cupcake in it. The frosting sets perfectly smooth every time. I never frost the old way after I tried that, I love the way it looks.

    I really like your ideas of how to package baked goods so they’re like a real gift rather than just baked goods passed on. I like to give stuff like cupcakes as presents but I’m always concerned that they don’t look like they’re presented in such a way that they are nice gifts. I really like your ideas.

    I think giving a friend or loved one a special cupcake you made yourself as a gift is much bettr than giving them a whole big cake, especially if you know they’re dieting. I mean this way they don’t have a big temptation around, or a big cake that will go to waste. Your hubby and kids can eat the rest of the cupcakes you’ve made and not be grumpy that you’ve made and gave away a cake they’ve been staring at all day. It’s a win, win situation, especially if you’re on a tight budget.

    Hi Stephanie,

    Great idea for gifts. I remember these cupcakes that we used to make when I home-schooled my two older daughters. They were, of course, healthy and very tasty as I recall. Lots of bran but the kids loved them.

    I actually miss doing all of that baking. I was a real “pioneer mom” who made everything from scratch. Not so much anymore. My husband does most of the cooking around here. He enjoys it.
