Metropolitan Mama bestows aden + anais with “Best Receiving Blanket” award

May 10, 2009 By Stephanie

aden-anais-logoI should send out a press release with that title.

Even though I don’t really have an award to hand out.

But, IF I did, aden + anais would get it.

aden + anais muslin wraps pinkThese receiving blankets trump all other receiving blankets and swaddling blankets that we have tried (yes, even the highly-acclaimed “Miracle” Blanket…).

Actually, we recently put all of our other blankets in a bag to giveaway to charity or to friends. That’s how much we like these blankets.

They’re soft and snuggly, yet not too thick/warm. They’re also generously sized so you can use them beyond the itty bitty newborn stage. We don’t swaddle our baby super tight like some people do (you can use the blankets for that as well though…), but they are great for wrapping her loosely or blocking the sun from her precious skin. They’re just great – period.

If you’re registering, add these blankets to your list. Yes, they’re a little pricey ($29.95 for a 2-pack; $44.00 for a 4-pack), but they’re also awesome. We use them every single day.

Speaking of registering, feel free to peruse my previous posts on the topic if you’re interested:

Will Aden+Anais work for both swaddling and receiving blankets?

Yes! They’re very versatile blankets. Super soft, breathable, and generously sized.

Aden + Anais has a new Facebook page dedicated to their products. We use them every day for much more than just swaddling. They were warm enough for winter, but especially now with summer coming I’m so glad I bought these blankets. We use them to cover the stroller and make shade, to lay on in the grass, I used them a lot to cover up while breastfeeding. He can’t fall asleep with out an Aden + Anais blanket, but thank goodness they don’t make me hot too.
    Check out the Facebook page.

I read in the book The Happiest Baby on the block that swaddling is one of the S’s for comforting a baby. I would love to win these. Swaddling is important not just for comfort but for warmth as well. It also can protect against SIDS because it is harder for a baby to wiggle out of a good snug swaddle.

My daughter is 7 months old and we still use these type of blankets every single day! She wasn’t a fan of being swaddled, but my son was. He LOVED it. It was so sad giving away his little boy blankets when I found out I was having a girl.

  62. Serena says

    May 12, 2009 at 12:53 am

With my first baby, I didn’t get the hang of swaddling–I didn’t understand that you kind of have to make them like it! With my second, though, I swaddled her all the time. We received so many wonderful homemade blankets with our first (which my daughter is still using), but none of them were really swaddle-friendly, so with our second I made a few flannel receiving blankets that did the trick. Much larger than those dinky ones you can buy in the store! The aden + anais ones sound lovely.

  63. Susan Park says

    May 11, 2009 at 10:05 pm

I agree that it is great to have blankets that are big enough to grow with your kid! My mother-in-law made me a few over-size receiving blankets for my daughter and I love them! I also love that they are not in the typical baby-pastel or gender-biased colors. Good to see that A+A has styles that fit the same category!

I have heard NOTHING But wonderful things about Aden + Anais Wraps! They have a zoo pack that is just so adorable!

Muslin is a unique cotton fabric first introduced into England in the late 17th century. Muslin has a light, open weave that allows air to flow seamlessly through the material. The soft natural fibers allow your baby’s body temperature to adjust naturally.

    How interesting is THAT?
Many Many thanks for the chance to win this Blessing!!!

  68. Annie says

    May 11, 2009 at 4:09 pm

AND they’re super cute! I love the simple designs and calming colors.
Our first was completely addicted to being a tightly swaddled “baby burrito” – Nothing but the tightest and best Velcro for him! I hoping when baby girl makes her debut, she’ll be less addictive :) and happy with a loosely wrapped cuddly blankey. And it’d be truly wonderful to replace those old gender neutral receiving blankets with something sweet and feminine.

I wouldn’t have made it through the first three months of my children’s lives if it weren’t for my much-practiced swaddling technique. Fortunately for me, neither were summer babies, but I have a sister who is due in a couple of months, and another who would like to be having a baby in about a year from now. These blankets would be perfect gifts for them!

  70. Caryn B says

I have to agree with you! My son was born in the summer so while he loved to be swaddled…most blankets were too hot. It was my lactation consultant who recommended these. They really are fab blankets! My son loved to be swaddled in them! : )

Wow that is really pricey for me but if you say they are great then I’ll have to register for them and see how it goes. My favorite blankets are always the ones that are a little thicker/thin really soft cotton ones they usually come with just one, I know that is a great description, sorry.

But, for the next one, I’d love to win these beautiful blankets. And the best thing is that they sell them in packs of 2 and 4. We had our one and when it was soiled, nothing compared. We used these swaddle blankets with my daughter when she was little and they are truly the best. We now use them for all sorts of things and they are going strong. They are great in the summer to place over the stroller shade to keep out the sun but also allow air flow and a breeze! They are a must for new moms (in my humble opinion).

When I was young, my mom took a scratchy wool Army blanket and sewed a duck print on top of it. I used “Ducky” well into college and beyond. Occasionally it still gets put on my bed, especially when I’m sick. Yay for awesome blankets!!

This would be great for summer swaddling, as I understand they’re very breathable. We have and use (and love) the miracle wrap right now, but the material seems like it will be too thick for super hot summer nights. Thanks for a chance to win a pack!

These blankets do look great. I distinctly don’t like the “receiving blankets” that you buy in a 4-pack at Wal-Mart. A friend of mine made me some awesome big receiving blankets when Sugar was born – we really like those, but they are um, “girly” and I think Hubby will have something to say if he sees me using those in public with Baby Boy :)

As a child, I had a blanket that I loved. I took it everywhere, including Kindergarden, and, I’m not too proud to admit, my honeymoon. That’s right, I love my blanket so much that at 30 years old, I still sleep with it every night, and take it on vacations. My husband laughs at me all the time. Anyway, I have 2 little girls (5 & 2months) that I am sure would love one of these awesome blankets! Thanks for the giveaway!

It’s also nice to know that they aren’t TOO thick. That’s always something I try to avoid since it’s warm enough here in Arizona : )
