Pow! Bam! Take That…and That!

April 20, 2009 By Stephanie

batman_powSometimes a mama’s gotta stand up and fight.

Against germs, that is.

If you know me in real life, you know that I am not a huge fan of crowded places like movie theaters and malls and hospitals. I will go to those places – don’t get me wrong – I just don’t like all of the germs (and potentially scary people) that abound in heavily-populated places.

To help combat the “yuckies” when I’m out-and-about, I like the idea of the Clean and Green Germ Defense collection of products by Classy Kid Inc.

  • Keep Me Tidy Diaper Sacks (great for disposing of stinky diapers on-the-go; $3.97 for a pack of 75)
  • Keep Me Healthy Potty Protectors (oversized so that kids can “hold on”; $4.99 for a pack of 10)
  • Keep Me Clean Changing Table Covers (public changing tables are Disgusting with a capital “D”; $4.97 for a pack of 8 )
  • Keep Me Coloring Placemats (protect your child’s eating surface, plus give them something to do while they’re waiting for the food to arrive; $9.99 for a pack of 20)

classy kid inc logoThe products are disposable and biodegradable (“breaks down in months, not decades“), thus making them “Earth Friendlier.”

I love that the company says “Earth Friendlier” and not “Earth Friendly.” After all, disposable products aren’t exactly “green.” That said, sometimes these kind of products do come in handy and – if I’m going to use them every once in awhile – I would rather use products that are better for the earth, wouldn’t you?

WIN IT! One winner will receive one pack of each of the above-mentioned products by Classy Kid Inc. To enter, leave any topic-related comment on this post prior to Tuesday, April 28 at midnight (Don’t forget to follow the rules…all generic comments like “Enter me!,” “Love it,” and “Cool stuff!” will be disqualified.).

*UPDATE* The winner is #56 Kelly F. Congratulations!

I like the idea of the potty protectors, it’s really difficult to have a potty-learning toddler not touch the entire toilet in a public restroom. Especially with twins.

Good point about “earth friendlier”! I truly appreciate the honesty. These products really would be a help in situations on the go.

    April 23, 2009 at 11:38 pm

The products do sound kind of cool but superfluous, I mean, I don’t want to sound like a bad mother but people who are germ freaks kind of freak me out. My friends wife just had a baby and they bought a steralizer and everything and were boiling everything. My 1 year old touched one of their baby’s toys and they had to put it in the machine to steralize it? I just think that is crazy, kids need to be exposed to germs to make antibodies. I don’t know I guess I don’t think they are going to catch a deadly disease by sitting on a toilet or getting their but changed on a changing table in a store. It is not like I go out of my way to use these things but if the need arises I will. I mean obviously if the toilet or changing table is smeared in feces I’ll pass to the next one but usually public bathrooms are fairly clean, I have only run into a few that weren’t so great but still nothing to worry about. The food mats seem weird because most food places have their own little mats they give kids with crayons and stuff. I don’t know all this stuff seems fairly situational unless you are obsessive compulsive about germs. I mean if i got these i might use a few of each and have leftover for my grandkids. I can see moms buying these because they sound cool and useful and then having them sit around. I wouldn’t mind trying them out if I won though to see if I am wrong, maybe they would come in handy more than I think. I am more the kind of mom to tell my kid if something falls on the floor, quick! pick it up 5 second rule!

  36. Allison Johnson says

    April 22, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Very cool ideas, I wonder if they are all available in local shops. It is so hard, you want to encourage the kiddos to be mobile and learn, but you never want them touching stuff! :)

  37. Michelle Bardo says

I really like the diaper changing table covers. Those would really be handy to have.

  38. Deborah says

    April 22, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Public changing tables are just totally gross in my book so I opt to change my kids in the car if it is an option. But for those times when you just have to change them in a public area, disposable changing mats are a must!

Diaper sacks are also a must in my book. I always keep a few in my diaper bag so when I am at a friend’s house or even just changing a diaper in the car, the smell and mess is contained until I can throw it away properly.

    April 22, 2009 at 2:23 pm

We will be needing those potty protectors soon, sadly…i’d like to never have to face the public restroom with a toddler, but assume it is inevitable!

I LOVE Classy Kid and these are a STAPLE in our household….germs are EVERYWHERE! UGH!
Funny enough, I saw their table covers at a restaurant in San Diego….Cafe 222….I wanted to email them but I couldn’t find a contact number/address….
I thought it was really ingenious of them to get into a restaurant…it even came with a wipe and crayons…..

  62. Blessed says

    April 20, 2009 at 9:19 pm

These are definitely products that I like to have in my bag when we’re out and about. Germies are really just freaky – especially in public restrooms, and those changing tables – ick. I’d rather change the baby on my lap in the car than use some of the changing tables I’ve seen in public restrooms.

  63. Ellen C. says

    April 20, 2009 at 9:17 pm

The diaper sacks would definitely be used. We go out a lot to metal detect and to the park and are always looking for a bag for the dirty diapers. Thanks for the chance.

Cool! I’ve never heard of this company but it’s a great concept. I especially like the idea of the toilet seat covers now that we’ve entered the potty-training stage. I’ve contemplated carrying around our seat topper wherever we go just in case! ;)

  66. Becca says

    April 20, 2009 at 4:21 pm

We’re in the very early stages of potty training our daughter, so we haven’t had to deal with public toilets yet. But I dread that day. These potty protectors look like a life saver.
