With the coming and going of Christmas (and after reading this post by Steph at Adventures in Babywearing and watching the movie she mentions), I've been thinking a lot about the amount of "stuff" in our life. There are toys and books, clothes and shoes, furniture and frivolities, odds and ends...all throughout our house.
I am all about simplifying my life and tonight we're doing our semi-routine "purge" - going through our house and filling up bags for charity and bags for the garbage man. And we're hoping to not just go out and replace our old "stuff" with new "stuff." We want to focus on other things that matter...
Like teaching our daughter that life is not about "stuff" (but about people).
We also want to be responsible about the kind of world that we leave behind us for the next generation (you know the message...recycle, reduce, reuse).
One small way to do this is by cutting back on the amount of plastic and "disposable" bags that we use every week (think about all those trips to the grocery store, Target, the corner drugstore, even the library).
Of course, there are all kinds of excuses that I tell myself: "Cloth bags are too bulky, too difficult to carry, too inconvenient." Well, not all cloth bags...take, the flip & tumble bag, for instance. The flip & tumble bag rolls up into a tiny ball and fits into your purse with ease (plus, it doubles as a toy for an antsy toddler when you're on the go!). All you have to do is pull it out and - kazam - it's one easy way to help save the world!
Only fifteen bucks to buy a bag that will help me save the world? I'm in!
