Children’s Book Giveaway: Little Color Fairies

March 23, 2012 By Stephanie

New in 2012, Mara Van Fleet creates a magical world of colors and sparkles for toddlers to enjoy.

Children's Book Giveaway: Little Color Fairies 1

The fun begins with the front cover, which features three childlike fairies and a pull-out handle that makes the wings flap. Each page then spotlights one color (eleven colors in all). Rhyming text makes for a read-aloud that slips off the tongue. Little ones will also appreciate the interactive nature of the book – fabrics to feel, arrows to pull, etc.

Children's Book Giveaway: Little Color Fairies 2

The “plot” of the story revolves around the fairies dressing a princess for a rainbow ball. All of the characters are refreshingly not grown-up. There are no tiny waists or low-cut dresses – only cheerful faces.

WIN IT! One winner will receive a copy of Little Color Fairies, written and illustrated by Mara Van Fleet! To enter, leave any topic-related comment on this post prior to Friday, March 30 at 11:59 p.m. All generic comments like “Enter me!” or “Love it” will be disqualified. Winner must provide a US mailing address.

* Thanks to Simon & Schuster for providing two copies of the books – one for review and one for this giveaway.

*UPDATE* The winner is #38 Melanie C. Congratulations!

I know the giveaway is passed, but wanted to thank you for the recommendation anyway. This book looks lovely and I know I would appreciate the lack of scantily-clad pin-up girl fairies :)

I love that this is about fairies (which my daughter loves) but it is still age appropriate. So many stories out there today for kids have things that I am just not comfortable with.

My daughter would adore this book! We just redid her room with fairies and such, and she loves books with moving elements, such as the wings with the pull out tab on the front. We’re also working on getting the colors down, so i’m sure this would help her learn them!

This looks so cute! Is K reading yet? Analise knows all her letters, all the sounds they make, but is so uninterested in reading. We have the BOB books which she likes, but she just tries to memorize them and guess from the pictures, not actually sound out the words. We have time, but alas…I feel like I should be doing more to get her reading.

Not yet. She knows her letters and many of the sounds. Plus, she enjoys “reading” books (aka memorizing them and then repeating them to her little sister) and listening to chapter books.

But we haven’t been proactive about actually using a curriculum or a “teach your child to read in X number of lessons” type of program. Perhaps we’ll try that after baby #3 is born? (I feel like we should be doing more too).

My little one Lily would love this book! Lily loves fairies and princesses. We were in Moab this past weekend and looking for a new sleeping bag and I said our old one had princesses on it. Lily quickly spoke up and said no, it is fairies! Lily is truly my girlie girl. She loves fairies, princesses, and babies. But at the same time she is also happy to go and make sand pies in the creek.

Okay, I guess we need some more “girly” themed books in our house to counteract all the trucks and cars and things that go “boom” books! ;)
