SLY Awards: Moby Wrap

March 16, 2010 By Stephanie

SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 1Whenever the subject of favorite baby carriers comes up, someone inevitably mentions Moby Wraps. Several of my friends have owned one and they say all good things. And I have to admit that whenever I see a baby snuggled in one of these, I can’t help but think how cozy they look – so loved, so peaceful.

SLY Award recipient Kristen McGee is an active babywearer and I know she’ll love having her newborn baby girl snuggled up close to her heart come May in a soft, stretchy, highly-acclaimed wrap by Moby. She’s the kind of mom who loves her kids with a love that comes from the deepest part of her soul.

Moby Wrap offers wraps in pastels, brights, patterns, and darks. They offer organic wraps, silk wraps, wraps with UV protection, and wraps with beautiful batik designs (inspired by Indonesia).

Here are a few of my favorites [click on each image to see more details]:

SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 2 SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 3 SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 4 SLY Awards: Moby Wrap 5

If you are intimidated by wraps, you’ll be happy to know that Moby Wraps offers super helpful step-by-step visual guides and videos to show you how to get your baby into a variety of positions in the wrap. There are even tips for nursing in your moby or getting a workout while carrying your baby! Sweet.

Other things about the Moby that you should know:

  • You can wear your baby facing you, facing the world, sideways, or on your back.
  • Moby wraps are appropriate for preemies all the way up to 35 pounds.
  • Moby Wraps are machine-washable.

All in all, the Moby Wrap appears to be exceptionally versatile with high ratings from moms when it comes to comfort and style.

I have to say that out of all the wraps/slings that I’ve tried with my two children, the Moby Wrap is one of my favorites. It’s a great gift for the new mom or mom-to-be!

I have a similar wrap, but not the Moby brand. I really liked it when he was small, but I got hot wearing it on warm days (all that fabric and a hot little baby body).

I think they have an organic line I’d like to try.

Our little one is just getting to the stage where I’m more comfortable wearing her than carrying her, especially after our last shopping trip! The Moby Wrap would be a great solution for us, and it’d pack in a bag much easier than a bulky carrier!

  21. csixberry says

    March 23, 2010 at 7:55 pm

These look super comfortable and it doesn’t hurt that they aren’t too expensive. The organic ones get pricey but the normal ones are reasonable. The hats are super cute and only $5 each too! I was just thinking I might need to get a carrier for when we start walking around this summer…or a double stroller but a carrier is cheaper and I don’t have to worry about maneuvering a double stroller.

  31. Jill says

The only wrap I’ve ever used is an African wrap that my dad brought me back from Tanzania. The issue I had with it is that it didn’t have any “give” or stretch. I’d love to try out a Moby! My favorite slings have been Hotsling and and WAHM ergo style carrier.

Although my little one is still gestating, I’ve been a fan of babywearing for years; with my nieces and also with kids I’ve babysat. Everyone tells me the Moby Wrap is a must-have, so I have two on my to-buy-before-baby-comes list!

I’d love the Moby Wrap with UV protection because we live where it is very sunny. I’ve loved wearing my little one in a wrap however now that he’s a wee bit heavier I’ve found that a more structured carrier is more comfortable. But I’d tell any new mom to get a wrap ~ it’s so comfy and snug for the baby!

  42. lace says

    March 19, 2010 at 9:18 pm

I’ve been very interested in wrapping but the girls are too big even for our ring sling and getting a bit big for the mei tai. I’d love to use a wrap with the next little one. My favorites are: Eggplant organic moby, Jade Stripe silk moby D, and Woven Earth Tone Stripes with Chocolate

  43. Heather M says

Love the Original Green! It’s gorgeous.

I have a Navy moby and I LOVE it!! If I won I would be so very happy to pass it along to a friend. My little one is not so little now (almost a year old!) and feeling sick. Today he only wanted to be held. I honestly do not know what I would have done without the Moby. I saved my back, for sure. thanks!!

  45. Beth says

    March 19, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I would love a moby wrap, I currently have a storkenweigen(sp?) wrap and it is gonna get kinda hot this summer being that it is a thicker/stiffer wrap. I love carring my baby girl. She is 6 mo… and I can’t imagine a day when I won’t be able to carry her around!

  46. Nicole says

    March 19, 2010 at 1:16 pm

I didn’t know they did designs. The little owl is so cute! I’m so glad the Moby Wrap holds babies upright. Especially with the recent problems with sling carriers.

I just saw a lady wearing one of these the other day. I told my husband that this was a must for our upcoming baby. I like the UV protection ones (what a great idea!) and I think I’d probably choose the turquoise because I like the pop of color, and it’s nice that hubby could wear it too.

  54. Wehaf says

My sister recently had her first baby, and she tried out about half a dozen different slings and wraps; she said the Moby was her favorite, and still is, with her baby boy approaching 10 months. So I definitely have some trusted recommendations to go on!

  55. Melissa O. says

    March 18, 2010 at 1:22 pm

I am not intimidated by wraps. I am so excited to use a wrap with my baby due in June. I used a carrier with my now 23 month old and wish I knew about wraps like this sooner! I made one of my own for the new baby but would love to win one and compare. I think mine is too stretchy and my toddler sags in it. If I don’t win this one I will have to try again with a less stretchy fabric.

  56. Molly says

    March 18, 2010 at 11:21 am

This is one of the last things I need to get, before my daughter gets here. I’ve used slings in the past, but have just recently started admiring the Moby Wraps. I love the floral Batik design

  60. Lisa says

    March 18, 2010 at 6:47 am

I’ve tried various slings and wraps, but although I’ve heard great things about the Moby design, I’ve never tried one. I’ve heard that they’re better for your back than some of the alternatives. I’d love to try one! I think I’d choose a black one. Thanks!

  61. Erin S. says

    March 18, 2010 at 5:08 am

  63. Robin Haws says

    March 17, 2010 at 11:11 pm

I didn’t “baby wear” much with my first two kids. I am actually kind of looking forward to trying for baby #3 because I’m dying to be a “baby wearing mama”! Ok, I want another baby for reasons other than that but, I’ll look forward to the baby wearing!

  64. Judith says

    March 17, 2010 at 10:43 pm

My daughter is expecting #6. She used wrap for the last 4 and unfortunately with 6 years between #5 and #6 she thought she was done. She is replenishing all her baby stuff. She would love this wrap and I would love to win it for her.

  65. Karen says

    March 17, 2010 at 10:00 pm

I think that kangaroo(?) picture is one of the cutest pics of mom and kid I have seen. I absolutely love it! What a fun idea to do with one of these wraps.

  66. Jessica says

    March 17, 2010 at 8:34 pm

I would choose the original Moby wrap in Chocolate or Navy. I have been using a sling which is getting a little hard on my back now that my daughter weighs 15 pounds. Also she wants to be able to see what’s going on and the sling doesn’t allow her to do that, so a Moby wrap would be great for us!

  67. corrie says

I liked the moby wrap in black

  68. Debbie C. says

    March 17, 2010 at 6:32 pm

I got one of these as a gift when I had my son. It took some practice to get the hang of putting it on but my son would fall asleep right away whenever I carried him in it. I loved having the freedom to use my hands while carrying him. Sadly, I can’t find it. I either lent it out or lost it. :(

  69. Melinda J says

    March 17, 2010 at 6:30 pm

I’m definitely going to try a wrap when I have #2. I’ve used a mei tai, a sling, and an Ergo so far and they’re all good for different times. I think the wrap will be great for the early months. I think I would choose the UV, especially if I’m going to use it when baby is too small for sunscreen.

My favorite is the Moby Batik in Vine!

  90. Lydia says

    March 16, 2010 at 10:28 pm

I carried my son around in a sling until about 9 months because he got to wiggly and a little too heavy. Lately I’ve been wanting to go on hikes, but think that letting my son hike with me would be difficult for both of us unless I could carry him. This looks like an option I should look into since it looks so versatile and can carry 35 lbs(!).

  91. Brie says

    March 16, 2010 at 9:57 pm

As a fellow avid babywearer, I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve never used a Moby wrap and would love the opportunity to try it out. I currently use an Ergo and love it, but sometimes the Ergo is a bot hot or doesn’t quite work with what I’m wearing or the situation.
